Chauncey Washington is an oft-injured 4th RB who was on three teams in four years. This isn't a big loss.
Washington being cut is not a surprise because he did nothing special and is nothing special. Clowney is a waste of speed. He can't be a gunner. Wallace Wright is still not replaced.
Whoever we sign wont be ready to be an nfl receiver yet. And they likely wont see the field at any point ever this year with Holmes/Braylon/Cotch and Coles very likely coming back. Id think the top priority would be building someone for next year
Marcus Dixon was a great story years ago. He was the kid that was falsely accused of rape in high school and lost everything. I think he had a full ride to Vanderbilt and his scholarship was taken away from him. He was in jail for a little while for a crime he didn't commit. Eventually the stupid girl admitted she made the "rape" story up, but Dixon was still charged with statutory rape - those good ole Georgia laws got him. Dixon went on to Hampton. He's a really athletic 3-4 lineman. I like this move. I think he can be a good rotational end.
unless a kid has tons and tons of potential (like mcknight) where somebody will scoop him up and say its ok for you to not contribute this year, the practice squad is where the young UDFA's get developed. Barnes will land on a PS this year, I just hope its ours.
fantastic. A kid with tons of potential along the DL. Thats exactly what the Jets need, and exactly the type of guy Rex loves to coach.
I think cutting Washington will come back to bite us in the ass. I'm a Woodhead fan, but I'd rather cut DW. I'm afraid LT could be used too much and wear down the way Jones did, and I don't trust Greene to stay healthy. Hopefully he makes it to ther PS.
TheJetsStream Is it possible to botch a cut? Apparently. RB Chauncey Washington is fuming after learning #Jets will waive him now. #nfl #nyj 10 minutes ago reply
I completely agree with you. Shonn Greene seemed to get injured a fair amount early last season and he wasn't doing much. What happens now if he gets injured and is out for 3 or 4 games? For a game or 2 LT can carry the load, but if its more than that then the jets don't have a big punishing back to run between the takles and that will hurt the offense. The only way this move makes sense is if the CS is fairly confident that Connor can do this if necessary.
According to the info in the post from bojanglesman belong your post, Washington is fuming. Washington is not a great character guy and he's a pedestrain NFL runner. Also, he does not offer the flexibility of Woodhead. Woodhead can be used as a slot receiver whereas Washington cannot.
I said it earlier, but I don't think CW gets picked up en route to the PS. I wondered about keeping 5 RBs and figured it was a 4 week move. If we are getting DL help, I'm good with the move.
Well im kind of expecting Coles to be available on demand at any point this season for us so its pretty much like having 5 WR. Rex basically said he will be back on the team albeit we dont know how for how long
you guys are acting like we cut an all pro in washington. The guys hasnt exactly set the world on fire for us. He ran hard in the preseason, so did Little John Flowers. Chauncey has never made an active roster for a full season, he has been a PS guy his whole NFL career, my guess is he will never be better than that. Also, if SG gets hurt, we are fucked anyways, CW wasn't going to help us very much in that regard. Also you guys keep saying if SG gets hurt, CW would have beeen the perfect backup. Well if LT were to get injured, Woodhead is the perfect backup (if we don't trust mcknight, which we clearly don't) He can be our scat back who catch screens and play well in space. He is not on LTs level, and we will see a severe drop off in play if we have to go to DW, but you guys act like Chauncey might outplay greene this year with the level of distress going on over him being cut.
I think you're exaggerating the level of distress. He'll be a good PS addition. That's all. If either back gets hurt, BTW, I still think McKnight gets pressed into action. Woodhead is a good mid-game emergency because of his versatility. He's not a multi-game primary option either.
good god no, but if in week one Brad smith breaks his hand or whatever, woodhead can cover in the slot. and the playbook isnt thrown out the window if LT goes down either. But if either back is going down for more than maybe two weeks with an ankle sprain, we will be scouring the wire for somebody, anybody to help us out
If McKnight gets an opportunity with the O because of injury, it's going to be in limited duty until the CS is comfortable with him holding onto the ball. Rex will choose to play the HB who is more likely to hold onto the ball despite smaller gains vs. the buy with huge big play ability and hands covered in cooking lard.
