These GIF's are always appreciated. I love them because watching them sets me up on what to focus on watching the next game. THANKS
Let's do two more negative ones for now. Stay with me, be strong! Breno gets walked back again, everyone else does a great job. Nice zip on that throw by Fitz, overthrows Enunwa by an inch. Here's Winters again struggling with that fake outside rush and then going inside by the DT (LB Sheard this time). Fitz does a nice job keeping the play alive, connecting that ball. Any other QB (well, most of them) would be sacked there or throw an interception/incompletion. It's these little things that make him so effective and important to us, not so much the flashy 90 yd TD bombs you see from other guys. I'll have a few more GIFs up on how he moves in the pocket, avoiding pressure.
My opinion of Fitzpatrick's pocket presence has gone way up this year. He looks like Brady with wheels at times. Early on he didn't have the chemistry with all the receivers but lately it looks like he's on the same page with all of them and he slides beautifully in the pocket, just not down the field.
Seeing this last gif from this angle, I think the fumble is solely on Fitz. While his OL did him no favors, he didn't see or sense the pressure coming at him from either side. IMO he should NEVER have tried to throw the ball there. He should have tucked the ball and run towards 11 o'clock. If tackled, he would have lost less yards, and he may have even been able to pick up some yards.
I agree that he needs to be replaced in the starting lineup, and also that it would be better capwise to keep him as the RT backup, but will look forward to the day he can be cut. He's looking pretty awful.
I hear you and you have a point, but when Winters is outplaying him, I don't think any other adjective than "bad" or "awful" is appropriate or accurate.
Yeah, maybe he is just bad lol It's just hard to do with a line playing so well. Of course there's gonna be some weak links but it's tough to call him bad, considering the whole picture
Breno blows... so does winters.. and Ferguson at this point. Fitz makes fast reads and gets the ball out quick.. he's the reason he doesn't get sacked. When the defense were facing actually does clamp up thats when we see too much pressure on fitz and he looks uncomfortable. They don't even block well on screens our RB's just know how to make the most out of nothing now. Sometimes the screen breaks down and fitz still hits the RB slightly after.. still setting up a nice play. I'd be so happy if we signed an OL in the summer and drafted them high
The OP great GIFs and narrative help me identify how much I really miss while watching the game. It does, in my mind, clearly continues to highlight what we need to do by way of improvements next year. First and foremost, beef up the line....RT and OG. May be start grooming our LT replacement. That alone would make our O far better. Second, Speed/ tackling at the LB position to counteract the TE and slot receivers. Third, and something that does not need GIFs to understand, a punter and a punt returner. Awesome job by the OP.
Mauldin uses the same dip and rip move on every rush. He definitely needs to mix in some spins and power moves so he doesn't become too easy to scout and neutralize.
He usually does but it's nice to see that he'll take chances at times and stand in the pocket even if there's rush coming. Definitely would have been "smarter" to tuck the ball and get the first down.
So far teams haven't been able to stop him, even with double teams he occasionally blows by the TE. But he could be that much more effective he had a bull rush or a spin move to pair with. Right now he's just a threat off the edge, that limits his pass rush a little. If he could fake an outside rush and then do a spin move to the inside tackles would not know how to defend him on any given down. Freeney was a master at this, he also had a wicked bull rush. He was perfect with all those three. Edge rush, spin move, bull rush. You can't block a guy or prepare for a guy like that because you never know what he's gonna hit you with.
Let's check out Sheldon. Lining up at DT he beats the LG before the poor guy was even able to get out of his stance. Here he plays LE. The RT didn't know who to block and Sheldon gets through almost untouched. Brady gets buried under 2 Jets defenders. Sheldon at RE beats the TE (converted tackle) off the edge, shoves him aside and goes for the sack. Nice job also by Leonard. Watch Snacks drop back.
Two impressive plays by DD. Ever since Bowles limited his playing time he's responded well by delivering consistent performances. I don't think he had a BAD game now that he's rotating with Erin. His run defense especially has improved, some of that probably due to his decreased responsibilities and the fact that he doesn't have to think as much or try to do too many things, things he's not good at. When you limit him to just playing the run he can be pretty effective as shown in these two plays. Snacks takes on the double team and all DD has to do is shoot the gap and use his speed to make sure #39 doesn't get to the outside first. No where to run for the RB. Sheldon is containing on the left side and Skrine, Pryor as well as Cromartie got the right side covered. Beautiful job here by DD again. Inside run, smashmouth football. Takes on the big FB (#47), sticks his head in there and makes another huge stop for no gain (3rd & out). He did have a couple of "bad" plays in coverage where he got exposed again on that first drive, but nothing major. I doubt he'll be back next season but If his role is limited until he figures things out I'd actually like to have him back for cheap. But he'll probably go to the highest bidder and be an every down LB for that sorry team. Most likely somebody like Cleveland or Indy.
A lot of mobile QBs in the league. I think they do not want him spinning inside so he can maintain some contain on the pocket.
Brady's amazing pocket awareness while looking downfield is displayed here. His first stepping up to the right place, and even more impressive to me is his knowledge he is about to get sacked when the danger is coming from behind him.
I love when we run this play because it's a gimme first down or touchdown if the defense doesn't pick up on it. Fitz sends somebody in motion and before the guy is set we snap the ball and the receiver runs a quick flat route to the inside or outside. This week it was Marshall, worked with Powell as well. Last week it was a game winner to Decker against NE. A lot of this is just Fitz reading the defense, understanding the matchups. On that second play he knew Powell was matched up with the safety 1 on 1 and it was impossible for the safety to get there fast enough to make a play on the ball or even a tackle for little gain. A lot of these audibles wouldn't work with somebody that has a better arm or more talent because they'd just snap the ball and not even pay attention to these things. An RG3 or a Kaepernick, they don't know what they're looking at.
