If you are right with him being 0-2 then I am happy as all hell.

Not one team who won free agency won in the season. That's a fact

Seattle paid more for Harvin than any FA and they gave up their first round pick and he sat out most of the year. They're really regretting it even though he was near Super Bowl MVP.

What do you call winning FA? You're just putting a negative connotation on signing good mid tier starters that fit comparing it to Miami paying Mike Wallace mental money or the ridiculous moves Oakland made time after time, etc. Signing good players when you have the money for it isn't a bad thing believe it or not.

Look at all the teams that made huge splashes in free agency and look at the seasons they had after that. It all tells itself. It has happened time and time again. Teams overspend and sign names.

I'm sorry but "Winning free agency" is an oxymoron. You win in the draft, you only loose in free agency if that's your approach to building a team.
I suppose some think NE won in free agency, or Denver. Both mortgage the future for a 1-2 year shot period.
We have a long way to go before you use free agency to win now.

Ward+Asamoah+Sanders= Decker+whoever Idzik is going to wind up signing $ wise. Maybe 2-3M extra at most. Just spouting nonsense. The argument is that Idzik couldn't have gotten Asamoah or Ward or whoever else to come to the Jets because they didn't want to play for this team. No way to prove that one way or another without inside info but what you guys are saying is just lolwrong. Decker is a bigger name and more $ than either of those guys not that Decker is even that big of a name and there are infinite examples of teams signing guys and winning Super Bowls or improving their team. Lots of dumb teams make lots of dumb signings and tank as a result, that isn't evidence that it never works.

You do not have any source to support your claim which means your speculation of not wanting to come here is complete bullshit. These guys sign for one thing and one thing only, money.

This is just another bullshit claim to justify ones position

Great then that means you're just dead wrong because Decker+ leftover scrubs is worse than Asamoah+Ward+marginally worse WR. Well played.

Why give up a draft pick when you can sign the same type of player but BETTER in MJD?

because Seattle believed that they were one WR away from taking the next step from playoff team to Super Bowl winner. and they were proven correct that the rest of their roster was Super Bowl caliber. are you really comparing that to the Jets who have many needs?
answer this simple question. you claim Asamoah would easily be worth $5-5.5 million. if the Jets only had $5.5 million in cap space available would you be championing that they should have offered that amount to Asamoah because he is worth it, regardless of the fact that it would prevent them from being able to sign any other player?

I will give you forewarning, your answer is likely going validate what I accused you of doing and reveal a severe ignorance on your part. or you will just make a ridiculous claim because you are dug into your position. I just wanted to give you a fair shot and not think you are being tricked into a bad answers, because there are only bad answers to the inherent position you are taking.

Talk about absurd. $50M in cap space and your big argument is, well what if it was only 5.5M in cap space? That's so pathetic, seriously?

I brought up Harvin as a counterpoint to people saying you don't bring in players for big contracts and succeed, Seattle gave him an enormous contract, AND gave up a 1st rounder, and lost him for most of the season and still won. There are a ton of examples of teams bringing in medium-good players and improving, and there are plenty of other examples of top contenders bringing in FAs and winning Super Bowls like the Pats did a couple times in the past decade. Everyone on here wants to pretend it never works out and it's a steeping pile of bullshit. Plus signing Asamoah nobody on ESPN would even give a fuck to go on with the big "Jets win FA this year" joke.

I don't disagree with your response at all.....its right on, but it has no relevance to my comment whatsoever. I just don't advocate free agency as a way to go to build a team, hardly a winning strategy. You use it selectively to plug a couple of holes so you can go into the draft with multiple options if the value is there. Hence being a winner in free agency is simply nothing to be proud off, because great teams most probably stay pat.
I have no proof, but I think our priority might have been Davis (overpriced), J Ward and Asamoah along with a WR but the Jets could not pull the trigger for whatever reason. So going to Decker was still a good move albeit not our first choice.
Going to Revis would have been our worst ever.

I agree that signing Decker after the best choices failed was a good move. At least it salvaged the possibility of this important FA period from turning into a complete shitshow. You just said that you use FA to plug a couple holes. What do you think Ward+Asamoah+WR would be doing? Exactly that and nothing more. Neither of those guys are near the best in the league at their position and neither of them commanded anywhere near premium money. They are both above average starters at positions of desperate need and you could plug a cheaper WR as a stopgap instead of Decker if they were brought in. Then the draft is very strong at WR and TE so you could just draft BPA WR-TE in the 1st 2 rounds and play out the draft from there. Either sign back Cromartie to a 1 year deal if the money is still there or another guy, and if it isn't I would've taken a gamble on starting Walls. Then if that doesn't work out take your lumps and bring in whatever shitty CB is leftover during the season and probably draft another CB in the 3rd or 4th round. That hypothetical team could become a powerhouse very quickly if Geno turns into a franchise QB but that isn't even close to how it happened.

answer the question. it reveals the extent to which you are considering your claims.

the answer, as we all know, is of course you would not. which means the only factor you are considering when claiming the Jets should sign those players for those amounts, and thus the coming to the conclusion that they are worth that amount, is based merely on whether the Jets could afford them this year based on this years available amount under the cap, without consideration for the impact having those players on the books will have in subsequent years.

unfortunately, those are the things a GM has to consider, the long term ramifications of the contract and whether they want to invest in those players for multiple years, not just can they afford them this year because it will improve them for next season. Idzik is trying to build a team that will be successful over a long stretch of years, and you do that by signing players to multi-year contracts that you want for multiple years and you believe the contract will be valuable for those subsequent seasons. so your position is based solely on an extremely simplified view of signing players to contracts that does not reflect the reality of the actual situation, and as such is nothing more than fantasy.

You refused to answer the question because you know this.

Loving what Idzik is doing so far this free agency. For once we have a GM, that is building a team, that can be a winner for years. He is not over spending. just for the sake of over spending. I expect some more moves to fill in some more holes

I like the approach. He seems to have a gameplan and is willing to stick to it. No crazy overspending, go for youth and build through the draft. Fingers crossed that it works.

No I refused to answer the question because it's based on laughably flawed logic which of course you just expanded on with that drivel. The pertinent factor is whether the value is commensurate with the contract or not. I believe that either of those guys would be in the $5M/yr range and you've got no shot of proving their market value is significantly lower than that. They were good players in positions of dire need that signed cheap, and not for the Jets. It's as simple as that. Plus the team had plenty of cap room to work with to the point that it would be no issue at all for this year and wouldn't create long term financial difficulties adding 2-3 contracts in that range.

no, because it has nothing to do with their value in isolation. again, you just revealed that you cannot think of the situation beyond the most simplified consideration of signing contracts of whether they can be afforded under the cap this year, when the fact is there is more to consider when signing a multi-year contract. unless you are arguing the Jets should have signed them to one year contracts for those amounts, and then blaming them for not doing so when the reality is they wouldn't have signed only one year contracts.

you can claim it was flawed logic, but you haven't presented any argument that supports that accusation. on the other hand, I claimed your position was based solely on your flawed look that only considers this year when claiming the Jets should have signed them, and ignoring any other factor, and your posts have continued to prove that claim.

all contracts add difficulties in subsequent years as the amount of the cap they take up prevents that amount being used on any other players, so your claim that they would provide no long term financial difficulties is inherently incorrect. obviously if a team believes the player's value is worth it then they sign them or attempt to sign them. believing those players are not worth having on the cap in subsequent years, and thus not signing them to multi-year deals simply because they can be afforded this season and would improve the team for this season, is a sound strategy, if they believe that cap space can be used on a better player next season.

you have provided no argument to the contrary because your arguments are drivel. your position is ridiculous fan free agent hysteria that only wants the short-term satisfaction of signing a new player without consideration for the long-term strategy is takes to build a winning team.

No, he shouldn't have, not at $6 million per year and $15 million guaranteed. Howard isn't that good. He just looked better than he was because of who the Jets had at the position before him. His position can easily be upgraded. Giacomini could be an upgrade for a few years.
