Why? With Hunter a step down from Woody and Vlad a big question mark, and the Jets with SB aspirations, why in the world would they risk Mark Sanchez' health and the effectiveness of the running game? Their offense needs to improve, not take a step back. Signing both Holmes and Edwards will be pointless if Ducasse or Hunter get Sanchez killed or if the Jets are no longer able to run the ball effectively.

I was gonna say that I was very surprised that no one here discussed that. On the Jets' site where I used to post, we all thought that Ducasse was drafted to replace Woody. LG was just a stop gap move in case Slauson couldn't cut the mustard and to possibly get Ducasse some experience before trying to take over for Woody at RT in 2011 or 2012.

Yeah, I have been under the impression that he would eventually replace Woody since draft day. I don't know how anyone could have missed that.

Rex was very high on Hunter calling him the most "athletic". He will most likely come back.

Woody should still come back, for nothing else but his intangibles. He is still a top RT in this league, 33, injured and all.

Ducass will eventually be a starter but his 2nd year he will probably play fill in roles like Hunter & Turner.

Turner. The one guy on the O-Line I'm most worried about losing. Probably the best b/u OLineman the Jets have ever had. Versatile (b/u to all positions), smart, strong, and aggressive. This is a role player we will severely miss if he leaves the team.

Not to mention we still want him to knock out Gladys

I just don't see us paying Woody with all the FA's we have and the depth we have behind him. I'm confident Vlad will be able to fill in after a year under Callahan with his raw skills.

He's one of the few guys that we can save significant cap space on by cutting. I'll be shocked if he isn't cut.

We could have kept Danny Woodhead to do that.

Vlad was picked at the bottom of the 2nd, Vernon was 6 overall...no matter how bad Vlad plays he will never be considered a Gholston-like bust.

Yeah, 3 and a quarter million is a big chunk of change to save. Besides, he already has another career lined up in radio.

WTF? Almost EVERYONE on this site discussed that starting the day he was drafted.

Between Woody, Jenkins, and Bryan Thomas we can save over $11MM against the cap. Those are the 3 biggest cap saving cuts we can make and they all make sense to do IMO.

Slauson being erviceable at LG has been the best thing to happen to our OL since we drafted Nick and Brick. Ducasse should be fine at RT, in fact he's probably better suited to that than LG because of his height. I'd like to see him in position to pull more often, but we run some whams with the RT, too. I'm excited to reload our OL, I have faith Cally can get ANYONE ready to play in one year.

  15. It was bound to happen. Good to know Callahan feels he is ready for this. With the way Slauson developed, I am optimistic.

Ultimately, RT doesn't encounter the sort of speed rushers LT does. Vlad's run blocking is excellent. And having seen him at UMass, he's athletic enough to where his pass blocking should come along with good coaching. A lesser OL coach, and he may have been a guy who fell through the cracks in this league. But this may be exactly why the Jets were so determined to keep Callahan.

It would be nice to free up that much cash.

Woody is a liability now that he's coming off that injury. He should be cut.

I've always hated Bryan Thomas. He's become a halfway decent player, but Ed Reed could be a New York Jet if it wasn't for that draft choice. I hope he's playing for another team next season.

I can't see Kris Jenkins making that much next year. He'll more than likely be asked to restructure. If he wants to play, he'll do it.

What about Tomlinson? I'd like to see him return, but from the sound of things, he may be moving on.

I really hope they keep Tomlinson, his experience is invaluable to the development of Greene and McKnight.
