We could have gotten Gholston in the seventh round if everyone knew how he was actually going to play. Jus sayin...
Far too early to judge Vlad one way or another. Personally, I believe it would have been a major victory if Vlad was able to start his first year. I am pretty certain it was the Jets plan all along to allow him to sit and learn his first year. Yet, it never hurts to allow a young player to compete in hopes that your original acessment of there development was off the mark. In this case, considering the length and level at which Vlad is coming from, starting as a second Rd pick was quite a long shot. There should be little doubt, with this kid's size and strength he could turn out to be a very wise choice as a player to invest in. One quick comment on his test score at the combine, keep in mind that this kid's first language is Creole, if he went to formal school in Hait,i French would be his second. So that makes English his third language, and make no mistake english is a tough language to learn. So although he may have that lost over my head look on his face this kid is not dumb. Would be curious to see how well he would have done on the test if it were written in French or Creole. After all, how many of us can read, write and speak three different languages ?
Ok... Rookie, One pre-season, and one regular season game (In which he played solid), is enough to put the bust label on a guy we picked in the 2nd round? Even though it was made fairly known to all, that this kid was raw and needed to be coached up, but has a ton of potential for our future plans. Yet, he's already a bust who we should've waited till the 7th round to pick up? Well, I'm glad I'm informed now. I personally think we should probably let him get some quality starts under his belt before we throw around the "bust" label. Just my opinion though. Call me crazy.
Sarcasm attempt #1: Failed miserably. Sarcasm attempt #2: Absolutely! That's another bust. Playing as nickel, then as 2nd CB, then nickel again, then 2nd CB one more time, and then nickel once more, shouldn't be an excuse even if you're a rookie. And we all know that 1st round picks only need one year to show what they're capable of. Lame excuse. If he really could speak 2 or more languages he should be able to score high in that test. The fact that he didn't, proves that he not only is not smart enough to pass that test, but also that he has failed in learning a second language. If he wasn't able to learn a second language how can we expect him to learn a second position? He's Gholston v.2 --- just in case...
What I got out of this thread is Ducasse could of been had with a 4-7 round pick. He is large dumb and ugly. Wow Tannenbaum is a dick.
It's not an either/or situation. Tanny has made good moves, arguably lots of them. Have they all been good. No. That about covers it.
There's a big difference between Gholston and Ducasse in terms of expected early contributions to the team. Other than the obvious draft selection distance between them, VG was supposed to come in the be our pass rusher. Pass rushing in it of itself is not something that you have to coach (run at the damn QB!). Of course, Gholston would have to be taught to make the right moves to get past an NFL offensive linemen, but we did not even see a motor from him. It would be one thing if he ran like a bat out of hell and then got tied up with a lineman at the LOS, but that wasn't the case. He looked confused at doing what his supposed strength was in college. Ducasse has a lot of learning to do as was previously mentioned. The only "Gholston" thing about him is that he is extremely physically gifted. Ducasse seems willing to learn what it takes on the technical side. We also have arguably the best offensive lineman in the league. Chillax people!
IMO that's ridiculously wrong. You take project players to develop them. When Ducasse was drafted a good portion of people assumed he'd be headed for RT because that's where his skill set would be most taken advantage of. It just so happened the Jets had a chance to push another young player, so they slotted him temporarily at LG. Ducasse might have been listed there throughout the season, but it was clear he was being used as a swingman.
Agreed, I distinctly remember some people mocking him to teams at the end of the first round last year, and he was certainly a 2nd-3rd rounder based on potential alone. Thinking that he could have been had in rounds 4-5 is completely absurd.
