I've wanted Cooper for forever but after watching the WVU (Kevin White) and Arizona State (Jaleen Strong) games yesterday I wouldn't be mad with any 3 of those guys.
Assuming Harvin works out (a big if), I do not understand drafting a WR in the first round. Harvin, Decker, Kerley is a very good group of WRs on paper. Factor in Amaro if he progresses as expected, and we've got a very difficult group to stop. We have a lot of weaknesses, but WR SHOULD not be one if Harvin works out.
People get hard ons for a long list of big names at WR. They forget that there are only so many touches to go around. We should draft an OT in my opinion, and then a WR in maybe the 2nd or 3rd round.
The commentators on the Arizona State game were saying Strong is better than Cooper. Is that right? I'm going to have to watch more of him, have seen very little of AZSt. _
With Decker/Kerley and now Harvin, Jets are set at WR. Maybe later in depth. They should draft OL/OLB and CB.
Not set at all, Harvin has a 9 game tryout this year and Kerley's contract is up this off season. If Harvin can't fit in here he'll be gone and if he does fit it wouldn't make sense to pay Kerley. Kerley and Harvin are both slot receivers, we still need another outside guy. We should wait and see how MM will use these guys before claiming we're set.
Harvin is an outside guy. He can do it all. If Harvin and Decker are here for next year, we better not draft a WR in the 1st round. I hope we keep Kerley as a slot guy, but we are not drafting a slot guy in the first.
Harvin has played something like 70% of his snaps from the slot, which is where he is a best at. No one said anyone was drafting a slot guy in the first round.
Speaking of which - there is a receiver-bane in Jets organization. Sanjay Lal WILL fuck up with this kid. Expect Harvin to be off-loaded after this season. His contribution will be less than minimal. And the next WR pick - whoever he is, he's fucked too.
The Jet's first round pick next year should be the best available out of a WR or OL. Their second round pick should be the best available of whatever they didn't pick in the first round. I don't think the FO has given up on Milliner and McDougle should be ready to go next year, so maybe pick up a CB in the 3rd. I've been big on Amari Cooper, but if he is available, I hope the Jets pick up Kevin White. The guy is a beast at WR, at 6'3" 210-215lbs, probably runs close to a 4.4 40, and can go up and make a catch. Decker can help him clean up his route running and the dude can be dangerous.
What about Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne, Wes Welker, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco? _
OMG you have to be kidding with this first or second round drafting of a wide receiver. No, just no. Unless he is the best player available by a long shot and is a can't miss prospect that just absolutely blows away everyone else on the board you have to be kidding. Even if Kerley leaves you sign a complimentary guy at a low cap price who compliments the rest of the offense. You don't go out and blow a third round pick on Vincent Jackson an old player with a huge cap hit or anything like that. What are we the Lions drafting three first round Wide receivers back to back to back, no you allocate your resources to several different positions. And if you think a third round corner is the answer to our CB problem your insane. CB is at the top of the list and if we don't sign a good one in FA then that is our first round pick. That or an OT of the future or if a QB worth taking is there.
You guys are going so overboard. While we're at it let's go make some free agent moves and draft Cooper! Amari, Demaryius, Dez, Decker, Vjax and Harvin sounds like a plan to me!!!
If the best player available is a wide receiver, you take him. You can ease the rookie into the offense and add some very valuable talent and depth to the WR core. I really like the Harvin move and all, but he has a history of injuries. Having a lot of good WRs is not a problem in the NFL these days
You don't need three number ones thats a luxury pick, which we don't have the luxury of taking.... what you do need is an OT of the future a QB of the future and a corner that can come in and make a difference immediately. All of those are more important than a receiving option in the early rounds.
If the best player there is a WR, find trade partners to trade down or take him. Yeah I would love if a top QB or OL falls to use, then yes then take them. But I don't like the idea of us reaching to take a player to fill a hole. That's how you get into trouble in my opinion.
Like I said if the guy blows every other prospect out of the water that is a need then, like you said, you will probably have a trade down option and that would be ideal. I would love if Cooper continues his progress and is viewed as the next Julio Jones and we receive a future first or something like that, but you don't take him just because he is the top rated player. It is a balance of BPA and need not just taking talent blindly.
