Not even close. Marino's fake spike play cost the Jets a win and a likely playoff appearance.

Vilma had a bad year. I'm not going to cite statistics - I watched every game and I saw his play. Last year, he was the one bright spot on a terrible team. Every Jets fan, myself included, saw him as the centerpiece of the younger players that would usher in a new era of success for the team. But, after last season, the hype has fizzled. I think Vilma has a lot of talent and physical tools. But to call him the quarterback of the defense is the same lame thing as praising a player's intangibles or talking about his heart or his drive or any other compliment you give a player because his actual play is not at the right level.

Do I think Vilma should get the boot? Absolutely not. If someone gives a good offer for him, do I think he should be traded? Yes.

Not really because if you recall he "made up for it" later in the game. Got that huge tackle to stop either a 1st down or TD by the Goal Line on 3rd or 4th Down.

It will be a play I will remember though. He admitted later on that he was going for the Strip Sack, but knew he really shouldn't had. I understand what he was trying to do, 2 things in 1, but that wasn't the case.

I think he made plays on first and second down and they put up 6 on third down.

Anyway, that was a bad play by Vilma for sure.

    I will remember it.

I had already forgotten about it...yes, he f'ed up...no, there is no way that in a game full of bad plays and momentum shifts that that one play makes much of a difference either way.

It was 3rd down and with the sack, NE would have punted it from near midfield. I think the drive resulted in a FG.

No. We overachieved this season. We should be happy with our 10 wins and the playoff berth. Don't over-analyze individual plays that really didn't shape the game as much as you would like to believe.

In the 3-4 I think that Vilma would be better suited on the outside and Hobson could make an easy transition to the inside. Some people have had talks about possibly trading Vilma away to Washington for Clinton Portis and I've got to tell ya, if they don't make the change with Vilma to OLB then why not take a gamble and do the trade? I know there's also been talk of a 2nd rounder to Washington for Portis but why should we continue to keep a Pro Bowl 4-3 MLB in the 3-4 for another 2 seasons and watch him struggle? Put him on the outside or get rid of him.

Now, maybe I and others are wrong. Maybe in 2007 he'll be more accustomed to the 3-4 D at ILB and impove and impress. Time will tell what Tangini & Co. feel is the best for Jon and what is best for the team.

LOL Vilma the worst linebacker omg rotflmfao. This place keeps getting funnier and funnier. It is almost like watching Nascar for a crash.

1.) Vilma is in no way big enough to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme. The most ideal players there are former De's that are in between, too small for prototypical DE and too big for LB. Look at Thomas as an example.

2.) When the D stunk it up early this year JV was getting a ton of tackles. Now that the defense is getting better and better his tackles decreased.
Maybe it really is just the scheme.

However, this D became better and better and he is the leader of it. I suppose one can close their eyes, type away on a keyboard and think they are correct. The problem with this D is the front 3. They do not eat enough space and hence allow too many outside runs. That seems like more of a problem than ILB to me.

This D has no definitive lock-down cb and very little depth there, poor line play, poor play from any safety not named Rhodes. LOL but lets trade Vilma. Please isn't drunk posting a jailable offense?

We need a big time DT to fill these holes so Vilma can utilize his speed. He cannot shed blocks very well, and needs a big DT to be effective in the 3-4. Bryan Thomas was a very nice surprise this year. Also, Vilma was in on every defensive play this year from what I can remember. He is the leader of this defense. Another year grasping the 3-4 and a DT will be a tremendous increase in his effectiveness.

trade vilma no where he's a football player thats gonna perform for his team just give him sometime when we get a massive dt and he still isnt performing then you can moan and groan all you want. why trade a quality lb when he is in his prime and ready to give his all he dont complain or moan and groan he's a leader . you know what you got in vilma already so why chance it on a gamble in the draft and you dont know what your gonna get

Vilma really came on toward the end of the year. He is one of the reasons why we beat Miami. He played well in the playoff game up until the missed sack. He needs more help from the DL and his other ILB. Vilma and Rhodes were the main signal callers on the D. It seemed as if those two made the right call on almost everyplay. They are the Chad Penningtons of the D, making them invaluable.

Yes he may have but those tackles were 5 yds or more downfield. Do you consider that acceptable?

VILMA would be the man IF he had a widebody NT playing in front of him. As it stands now, VILMA has to fight off bigger men on nearly every play! Thus his speed is negated and he can not roam sideline to sideline! he gets engulfed 5 yards past the LOS and is forced to try to make tackles there. The guy can do the job IF given the proper tools to work with. Ask RAY LEWIS the value of a widebody playing in fron of him. He was ALL-WORLD when Siragusa and Adams were his bodyguards and an also-ran after they left. Now with Ngata in front of him, he has had a resurgence!
