Pennington never took the Jets to the POs in back to back years. He did it in 02 and 04, in between these is 03. The NYJs were not in the POs in 03, but CP is the only NYJs QB to win a PO game in two different seasons, winning one in 02 v IND and one in 04 v SD. JWN won two in 68 and none in 69, losing none in 68 and one in 69. In 69 the NYJs under JWN played one PO game and lost it. The only year JWN won a PO game was 68. The only year VT won a playoff game was 98, CP is the only QB to win a PO game in each of two different years. CPs NYJs however did not make the POs in 03 so it is only JWn that took the NYJs to consecutive POs of the two QBs we are focussed on. CP did not. Is that clear?
If you wanted that effect, just close your eyes and smash the keys on your keyboard. That's what some of his posts resemble anyway.
Whew, I thought it was just me. Thanks Sunday. Kinda makes me wish the season started this weekend. I can't wait to see what's in store for us.
No, once again you fail to comprehend what's going on. In Junc's original post, he fully admitted that Namath won two post-season games in 68. In 69, he only played in one game. That is the difference. Chad had two seasons where he played in two post-season games. Namath only accomplished that in one season. If you still can't understand what's going on, then I'm just going to assume that you're either that dumb or you really are just a troll.
The whole comparrison is misleading. The playoffs during Namath's era started at the equivlent of todays third round in 68 and the second round in 69. Pennington hasn't been to a third round and in round 2 he is 0 for 2. Vinny, Todd and Namath have all won a 2nd round playoff game, Pennington hasn't.
It was also easier to gte to a SB, in '68 we won the div and had a worse record than Oak and lost to oak in the reg season yet we played them at home in the AFL Title Game and didn't have to win a game to get to the title game. That's like us in '98 getting homefield over Den, I'm confident we would have won the AFC and the SB if we had Den at home. Chad is the only Jets QB to win a playoff game in 2 different years.
It's only misleading if you consider that anyone uses it to say CP is/was better than JWN. All I was pointing out was the simple verifiable fact that CP has 2 x seasons with 1 playoff win, no other NYJs QB has. Doesn't say anything about his abilities or theirs, it's just a statistic.
Not quite the same but close. Hard to argue that Denver wasn't the best team in football in 98 however I do think we would have had a much better shot at home. In 68 the Jets and Oakland were clearly the 2 best teams in football. In fact the Jets had the game in hand in Oakland and it turned on a couple of very flukey plays after NBC had signed off with at Jets win.:shit: I do think we would have beaten Oakland in Oakland, hard to say both in NY and in Oakland both teams played very well against each other however better conditions in Oakland might have played in Namath's favor, tough to tell but since we were a big passing team hard to see why that would have been a problem. The game we played in Oakland turned on some pretty flukey plays at the very end. Both in NYC and Oakland the games were pretty much back and forth with no clear home field edge. Knocking the crap at of Baltimore on a neutral site proved we were the best team that year just as Denver beating the SB champs on a neutral field in 98 proved that ultimately they were the best team. Chad is the only Jet QB to get to two second round games and he is the only Jet QB to lose two second round games. Namath, Todd and Vinny have proved that they can get passed the second round. Chad has proven to date he can't.
I don't feel like reading through 6 pages of this, but... Jets fans are rooting against him in a way. I love Pennington, and I feel really guilty writing this, but he had an average at best arm earlier in his career, and now it's nowhere near as strong. Plus, the last few years he has been an average quarterback, and he's never healthy. The leadership is great, the accuracy used to be great, and the energy is great, but there is more upside with Clemens or even Ramsey because of Ramsey's arm strength. Pennington isn't young anymore, and he was an average quarterback the last year he was healthy. People want Clemens to win the job because he's everything Chad was supposed to be and with a stronger arm. People want Ramsey because he's younger and was a former first rounder, and he has a big arm. People don't want Chad because the upside is limited: he's older, has the weakest arm, and the most dubious injury history. He has performed on the field, but he hasn't been a great quarterback in 4 years now. With Clemens, we see potential to be great, and with Ramsey, we see someone with talent who has never gotten a totally fair chance.
umm now i think youve caught champ's bug.....chad had two seasons when he won 2 playoff games??????umm has he even had one season when hes won 2 playoff games?
