It isn't so much that Chad folds under blitzing pressure. It's that the pressure exposes his lack of arm strength. With the blitz coming the CB's sit on the slant route because we all know that Chad can't throw an out and his deep ball floats enough to give the CB/S time to recover. I am not confidant that Chad will be able to win the "placeholder" QB job this season. He is the type of player that can only suceed in a very specific system tailored to his strengths. We as an offensive unit need to use this sacrificial year to gel - not accomodate Chad's deficiencies.
It's not rooting against him, it's doubt. I mean, I am rooting for chad all the way and would love nothing more than to see him to return to 02 form and lead this team to victory. But no QB has ever comeback from 1, let alone 2 rotator cuff injuries. And chad never had a strong arm to begin with. I'm rooting for him and hoping for the best, but it really is hard to see it happening.
More junk from NY Junc. More coulda, woulda, shoulda from Junc. FACT"s are none of what Junc posted occurred & Penny was totally exposed that nite for all the league to see which began his long downward spiral which has not stopped to this day
No, it's not coulda, woulda, shoulda, it's fact. You can't blame the entire loss on one individual when the whole team played like crap. Chad contributed to the crappy play, but so did the other 10 men on the field. Chad has been in a long downward spiral since 2002? Then please explain the 2004 season, and his career winning record.
I just completely give up. Football is the ultimate teams sport where each player is dependent on the other to do his job in order for a play to succeed. If the OL doesn't block, the Qb is pressured and can't read the defense or get off a pass. It happens to every QB in the league. If people think that it is a revelation that the strategy to impose against Pennington is to pressure, that is sad. That is the strategy to neutralize every single QB in the NFL, from Manning to Brady. Brady sure looks terrible when he is pressured, like when he threw three interceptions against a bad Miami team and lost at the end of the2004 season. Or Manning in virtually every playoff game. The only QB who teams try to keep in the pocket is Vick because he is more dangerous on the move and can't pass from the pocket to save his life. The facts are the Jets stunk that day in Oakland as a team and maybe it is true that Pennington didn't lift them, but that's hard to do without protection and with receivers who give up on patterns and drop the ball. And also a defense that can't get off the field on third down.
This and your prior thread about wanting a QB who goes 4-0 in the playoffs rather than 2-2 speaks volumes. Penny gets dumped on will Vinny is glorified. Look at the numbers, please. First of all, Testaverde, won exactly one playoff game as a Jet QB and lost the other two he started. He also lost a "playoff" game in 2000 when he single-handedly lost the last game of the season against Baltimore when the Jets needed to win to get in. Then, lets look at 2002-03. Pennington and Testaverde shared the QB duties those two years with the same team. In 2002, Testaverde was 1-3 and Pennington was 8-4. In 2003, Testaverde was 2-5 and Pennington 4-5. In two seasons Pennington was 12-9 and Testaverde was 3-8. How can you even compare the two?????? Let's take it a step further. In 2004, Pennington was 8-5, making him 20 -13 versus Vinnie's stellar 3-8. As for 2-2 in the playoffs, that is about as good as it gets for the Jets. Namath was 2-1. Todd was 2-2 also. O'Brien was 0-3. Testaverde was 1-2. The Jets only have 8 playoff wins in their history 1968-2 1982-2 1986-1 1998-1 2001-1 2004-1 They have 10 losses 1969-1 1981-1 1982-1 1985-1 1986-1 1991-1 1998-1 2001-1 2002-1 2004-1 As for Pennington's arm strength and him not being able to make the necessary throws, I ask this. If he is so completely figured out, why is he 21-16 as a starter, why does he have 55 tds and 30 interceptions, and why has never ever thrown an interception in the red zone? And one more thing. How long did it some QBs to win a SB? How about Elway? Favre? Plunkett? Dawson? Brad Johnson? Young? I understand the injury question, but before we write the guy off, let's see that he physically can't make it and leave it that rather than knock his abilities, which he has proven he plenty of already.
I was merely responding to someone's comment that Pennington had the best season of a QB since Joe Willy. I argue Vinny;sw 1998 campaign was better, because we got farther in the playoffs. As for the 2-2/4-0 comment, I didn't include Vinny in that. I was merely pointing out that many Jet fans are willing to accept mediocrity. I respect your points, and appreciate the arguments you make. We simply disagree. I believe it is Pennington who gets the free pass by many fans here. Why shouldn;t he get another chance? It is simply my opinion that he is not good enough to win it all. Purely subjective, but I did state that it is simply my opinion. I do think there is sufficient evidence to support this opinion, however,
And in unrelated news, Winnie, I had you in mind as I read this little installment from yesterday's periodicals. http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/115052203198080.xml&coll=1
I would love to see Chad comeback but Im not getting my hopes up, I seriously doubt he returns to 2002 form.
yep they showed so much that when Chad came back from his wrist injury in '03 he had 12 TD passes in his first 5 starts then led us to a 5-1 start w/ a 99 rating but oak had the book out on him and that's been the problem since th rotator cuff injury The reason he has struggled the last year or so is b/c of his shoulder and nothing else. Was yuor 1st misniformed response not enough? You had to reply to my last posts again? read my reply above.
Then he got hurt but then came back and led us to the div rd of the playoffs AGAIN. If Oak "exposed" him how did he guide us back to the div rd just 2 years later?
Wow the POs a real measure of success I guess in your eyes. When was the last time he won us a AFC championship or a SB? Just more junk from Junc
When was the last time ANY Jets QB won the Jets an AFC Championship or SB? Exactly. Keep living in 1969.
H'mmm seems like you want to ignore the FACTs that this franchise has not won nothing since 01/12/69. Common sense tells you that no OTHER NYJ QB has ever won a championship since 01/12/69. You seem to think that the continued losing is wonderful & terrific & a CP with 2 rotator cuff operations will finally without a doubt lead us out of the wilderness.
Oh it's a fact that the Jets havne't won since Jan. 12 1969? No way! I had no idea this franchise only has 1 Superbowl in their history, was Joe Namath or Ken O'Brien the QB? Or Al Groh the head coach? Keep giving me the "FACTs" champ. No other Jets QB has won since 69? Damn, I had no idea champ, none at all. Thankyou for the "FACTs" and history lesson. You seem to always put words in people's mouths...When did I say losing was terrific? Ok then champ...Go back in your cage and run around like a gerbil.
