Here's my issue with Pennington: I love the guy and I'd love to see him come back strong and win a bunch of games with the Jets. The problem is that with his injury situation and with the Jet's history of not having good outcomes with QB injuries I am unwilling to invest anything in hoping for his return. If he comes back strong he comes back strong and we'll all be happy. Other than that he's just one of the guys competing for the Jet's QB job, as he should be. Mangini is taking exactly the right tack at the moment; without a sure thing at QB he has opened up the competition to everybody he has on the roster. Now we'll see who plays best and is ready to go on opening day. My money is on Ramsey but I'd be glad if Chad takes the job also; as long as he TAKES the job.
I Think Pennington Can pull it off and Then the People can throw it in the peoples face that have no faith in him.
I admit that the Oakland game was not pretty, but to solely blame it on Chad is being ignorant. It was a total melt down of the entire team. There is not a single QB in the NFL who is not affected by a big time pass rush.
I didn't buy anything. I'm just tired of people putting him down all the time. He's the best QB we've had since Namath, and I think he deserves a little respect. He made our team a winner, and I'll never forget that.
Your are trying to compare a 02 CP with a 06 CP which is where you are derailing. What he did in the past was wonderful & terrific. But that is not going to assist in the now & future which is ALL that counts.
I have not done that in the least bit. My entire point was that given Chad's history with us, his winner's mentality, and his leadership, he should be given a fair shot this year. I have no idea how everything will end up this season, and I can only hope for the best. It's just my opinion that completely dismissing him with statements like "noodle arm" and "can't win the big game" are unwarranted. The fact is that we haven't seen a healthy Chad play since the middle of the 2004 season, and judging his future with us at this point is pointless.
Do you truly believe that Dick Todd's Jets and/or Vinny's Jets were better than Chad's Jets? Not putting you down, I'm just truly curious...
If he is productive he is certainly welcome. If he is unproductive he should be cut just like any other unproductive player. As for the "noodle" arm comments at this moment in time that is quite accurate protrayal of CP arm strenght. If he can prove he can chuck that rock on a line 40/50 yds with zip & no floating you will see how fast the comments will disappear. Until then you face a uphill battle of convincing anyone of CP worths IMHO
alright i respect that and i feel the same way. but the reason people write him off is because thats what you have to do as an organization, you plan accordingly as if hes not on the roster. cuz if he cant come back full swing, then what? thats why ramsey and clemens are on the roster now. AN EVEN BIGGER ISSUE IS, EVEN IF HE CAN COME BACK EFFECTIVELY, HOW EASY WILL IT BE FOR HIM TO RE-INJURE HIS SHOULDER A THIRD TIME?
Yeah I agree, and that's why I was a big supporter of both the Ramsey trade and the Clemens drafting. I honestly think Chad will come back and be our starter at the beginning of the season, but at the same time I am happy that we have a backup plan.
Yes and both during the Jets playoff runs to the AFC finals were superb. Vinny probably had the best year in Jets history in 98 and absolutely carried that team on his back with his performance. Todd was really not a very good QB but as any one can tell you back in 82 against the Bengals he was outstanding, I was in total disbelief by how well he played and he followed it up with a very nice performance in Oakland before self destructing in Miami.
People like Parafly whom do not go back far enough to remember other NYJ QBs then blindly argue from wherever they became a NYJ fan are just quite silly IMHO
Yeah, I don't remember the '82 game because that's the year I was born. But I do remember '98 very clearly, and Vinny was great that season. And how am I "blindly" arguing? This opinion was not forced on me in any way. It's called making observations and coming to a conclusion. Just because my conclusion is not the same as yours doesn't make it any less feasible.
I would say that Penny is the best QB the Jets have had since Namath as well. Vinny had the best single season in Jets history and Todd did take them farther but I would still take a healthy Penny over the both of them any day.
Cause you did not factor in QBs before your time which makes your argument on CP null & void since you were only born in 82. Myself I am a season tix holder since 65 & have a pretty good grasp of past + present NYJ history
