The Jets and Den were clearly the 2 best teams in the AFC in '98 and it could be argued the 2 best teams in the NFL so the situation is similar except in '68 the 2 teams played and Oak won- whether it was fluky or not they won and had the best record in the AFL then we barely beat them at home in the title game so homefield was huge.

Namath never proved that, he never won a 2nd rd game, it was 1 and in the SB in '68 then he lost in the 1st rd in '69.

The arm strength has always been overblown. No he doesn't have a Ryan leaf-like rocket arm but he could make all the throws before his injury and hopefully his arm is healed up and he'll be able to do it again. You say "the last few years" he has been average but he was on his way to a great '04 until injuries but still finished w/ a much better than average season, was good in '03 and barely played last year.

I think he was referring to Champs SLW list. I'm not sure what SLW means, there are several interpretations by the crack GG hieroglyphs team posted somewhere in the BS forum.

It's not fair to count playoff defeats as 'big games' but not playoff victories, so the wins against the Colts and the Chargers are big games. Also, beating the Packers to win a division title would have to be considered a big game.

As far as being mediocre since 2002 - he's been injured since 2002. Wrist in 2003, shoulder the last two years. He's always coming back from injury. Knock him for that by all means, his lack of durability is a huge concern, but it's not fair to say that the Oakland playoff in 2002 was the end of Chad Pennington because suddenly the league had sussed him. We don't know because he hasn't been healthy since.

I agree. Throw in the Sunday Night game at New England in 2002 when the season was hanging by a thread. I believe the Jets were the only team to win at their new stadium for quite a while, against Bellichick's vaunted defense. And people like to totally discount 2004, where we stared 5-0 and 9-4 or whatever with Chad. When he's been in there we have won, plain and simple.

I give him all the credit in the world for risking his career and going for it in those playoffs, even though he was subjecting himself not only to further injury but this kind of criticism for not having his A game. You can't rip John Abraham for pussying out in one breath and then turn around and call Chad "noodle arm" in the next because he played hurt. He got the TD pass to Santana Moss in San Diego when he needed to and in Pittsburgh he got the Jets in FG position twice to win the game. Too bad he's not the coach or the kicker.

I'm down. Last week he hit JMac over the middle when he had to so he still CAN do it. I take back everything I ever said about Chad and am behind him 100%. He the QB, I'm a J! E! T! S! fan. That about sums it up.

Plus, somehow, they seem to win more than they lose when Chad is the QB. Somehow, I don't know how, but they do.

Hehe . . . BigDog. . . you ran a search to see how many times your name was taken in vain in your absence, didn't you? :)

The fun you've missed. Champ's SLW list. We've been working on that. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=7845

    Anyway, welcome back.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but it's no coincidence. If arm strength made you a great QB then Browning Nagle would have had a job for more than 10 games. Chad knows what he's doing on the field and that is most of the battle. If you think about it, Chad's smarts covered up a lot of the flaws in Herm's coaching. Pretty much all of Herm's clock management troubles occured when Chad wasn't on the field, it was either Vinny, Quincy or Brooks.

I'm not being sarcastic at all. I'l cheer for Chad bigtime. I BELIEVE he can do it. Hey, I'm a Mets fan too.......You gotta believe! He's done it before. He hasn't looked like he did in 02 since 02? So what? Doesn't mean he can't do it again. He hasn't played 16 games? So what? Doesn't mean he can't this year. Odds are he probably can't do either, and if he can't he can't. We move on. But I'm going in believing he can because I'm a fan of the team.

I am not a CHAD supporter but I want him to do well. As he goes, so goes the JETS! I saw CARSON PALMER's return and what a treat to watch a QB who can throw the ball so well! If CHAD can win with smarts, all victories count the same as when a strong armed QB wins.
