Non-story. This was one of those "Well, he didn't give the answer we wanted the first 14 times we asked him, so now we're going to ask him a 15th time and no matter what he says, we're going to say he said what we wanted him to say" media-created non-stories that we get from the Jets media whenever they are bored. He never said he should have started all season. He never said they would have won more games if he started all season. He answered the question of: Would you have won more games if you started all season? with - "Yes ... maybe." That is as much of a non-controversial answer as there has ever been in the history of sports interviews. And if you have let the media rile you up (on any side of the issue) based on that answer, you should feel bad about yourself. The end. EDIT: Also, of course the Jets would have won more games if Vick had started all season. If you are a Jets fan and didn't know that by week three, you really should purchase a television set and start watching the games. The fact that this question was even asked is evidence that the beat writers are solely interested in stirring up sh-t. BREAKING NEWS!!!!: Professional athlete thinks he should play more. How controversial!
Other than maybe the Buffalo game , which game that we lost were we going to win if Vick was starting? Maybe Detroit? Maybe Chicago? Both of em arent guaranteed at all. So if Vick starts were 3-7 instead of 2-8..BIG FUCKIN WHOOP!
When he answered the question he freakin lead in with "please don't take this the wrong way - I am not saying I should've been the starter all season long.." haha even he knew people would run with it.
Yeah. But you see. If Vick had started for us then we wouldn't have been in the position for the great draft pick that we are!
What's so pathetic about the media spinning it, is he must have spent 5 awkward minutes making sure there was no way for them to spin it. They disregarded everything he said anyway. Lol
so if Geno would've started against the Steelers we would've still won by your logic? If Vick was our starter day one we would be still talking playoffs not who were drafting with the top pick
True. Now that we are playing better, my X-mas wish is to beat the Patsies on Dec.21 knocking them out of home field throughout the playoffs. That would be a great present.
Oh I'm rooting like hell we start ruining playoff hopes for people lol Miami twice, Buffalo and New England again. Obviously New England is going to the playoffs, but ruining Miami and Buffalo would be fun
Vick wasnt the reason we beat Pittsburgh. D caused 4 turnovers and the offense only generates 20 points. No so good. We beat PIT cause of our defense, having a +4 turnover margin and a little of the Steelers sleep walking through the game. Counts as a win just the same but Im not getting crazy thinking if Vick started from Week 1 or even Week 3 or 4 we would be in playoff contention. At best we would have 4 wins right now.
He wasn't the reason but he played a major role. Not so much the points as it was the zero turnovers. Vick also brings speed and mobility to the QB position, something teams now have to defend. Geno had that, but he never used it. Vick was smart with the football and drove the offense down the field numerous times. No we didn't win solely because of Vick, but having a QB who threw 0 interceptions and was smart with the ball did wonders. How many games did we lose this year because of turnovers from Geno? How many games did we lose because of bone head throws or terrible mistakes he made? Vick wouldn't have been our savior, but we definitely would have won a few more games, especially the close ones we had.
No doubt he's a better option than Geno NOW. But when he says that we would have more wins if he was starting from Week 1 how many more wins is he talking? 1 or 2? or 5? Big difference. IDK I just think with the way our schedule played up until this point we wouldn't have been much better if Vick started the whole year. There's also a pretty good chance that if Vick started the season and we were 1-5 or 2-4 Rex would've switched to Geno. So really this whole topic is pointless to discuss because we wouldn't be a winning team right now either way.
That's very true and something people are overlooking, including myself. Had Vick started and did poorly, would Rex have put in Geno? Interesting question. But you're right, 1 or 2 wins doesn't do much when you win only 5 games haha
Vick is also a buffoon who openly admitted he wasn't preparing for games properly. I don't mind what the Jets did this season to see if Geno was going to be our guy for the future. I think the switch should have been made after the Lions game.
vick is a smart guy. he knew he was gonna have his change to "save" new york, and we'll be giving him another contract next year while he stays fresh and stays away from injury. he knows rex will never pull geno, which was why he was caught off guard when playing san diego and buffalo. now vick is going to play well enough where we cant get a highly rated qb with an easy schedule and we're pretty much gonna have to resign him. either that or he gets a better contract elsewhere. so plan goes like this 1. lets geno get beat up by the good nfl teams. seriously, our schedule is brutal (and the easy part isn't actually that much easier). vick says this is genos team and looks like the good guy 2. geno gets pulled becasue rex is deperate. 3. vick plays well to end the year on an easier schedule 4. vick stays healthy and ready for next season after 6-8 games. plays well enough so jets wont get top pick 5. ny re-signs vick to a +1 year contract 6. vick gets injured next year, matt simms starts 7. superbowl
vick as a pretty big reason because of the fast start. we put up points on our first drive. then defense did great with a stop. after that, vick threw a bomb and momentum was immediately on our side for the rest of that first quarter. geno always starts like shit, and the defense can't do much. its only till the second half he can put up points, but by that time the defense is gassed and has lost hope. geno will 90% turnover the ball within the first 3 possessions. and those first 3 possessions are usually 3 and outs. nothing worse for the defense
Its def not surprising to me that the defense has looked way better since Vick took over. Not counting the second half of the Buffalo game cause that was just a disaster from the start. There's probably nothing more deflating to a defense then making a big stop then having your offense go 3 and out on the following drive.
