He doesn't necessarily have to be talking about his own contract situation. That final line: "They're getting rid of the young guys and bringing in old guys," the player said. "I don't know what they're doing." To me that is obviously a gripe about sending Vilma packing. Rhodes and Vilma grew close during their time here.
It's possible. Honestly, every other main player of note has either 1. Is good, but has received a new contract within the past two seasons (Cotchery, Jones, etc.) or 2. Is overpaid for what they have done on the field. For those reasons, with the exception of Rhodes, I don't want to hear any complaining about money from any one on this team.
now i get your point. Seems possible, but the odds are it was Coles. Usually players who are in negotiations for a long-term deal tend to be quiet. And why would he not only bitch about that, but also about the Jets spending Money, when we?re about to throw a truckload at him? edit: or do you think those are two different quotes for two different player?
The wording in the second quote 'the player said' leads me to believe it's the same guy making both comments. If Cimini actually had more than one player speaking on conditions of anonymity, I think he would be VERY clear that is was multiple players. And you're probably right about it being Coles, like I said, it was a hypothetical about Rhodes; I wouldn't truly expect Kerry to be making dissenting comments to the press, he seems like a very even tempered and professional kid. If I were to put money on it then my second option would be Baker after his benching following comments made to the press this season. That and the fact that Baker and Coles are the two most-mentioned players mentioned in the article regarding contracts.
I hate these "ANNONYMOUS" rumblings... if you got something to say, be a man, grab ya sack, and put ya name on it. Instead of this WAH, WAH, they traded my friend bulls#$%!!! (but don't tell em I said this) One thing needs to be said about this ... Hey Asshole, you went 4-12, did ya think everyone would be back... loyalty to a 4-12 team, well that just leads to another 4-12 season. I'm willing to bet big money the one griping the most, is Coles... and of the 3 players who want the contracts re-done... the only one I'd be pissed about loosing is Rhodes Coles and Baker... they are VERY replaceable. Ellis
That Baker is mentioned there is another thing i don?t really understand. He got a raise only 3 months ago, with wich the Jets showed, that they care about him and he said he wants to finish his carrer as a Jet. Why is Baker mentioned as a unhappy vet, when he just got his Money? My guess, these quotes are from Coles, and cuz it would be the same story als it was 4 weeks ago, Cimini made it a little bit more "interresting" by throwing some other names in there on his own.
This is spot on! Rhodes has no worries and the only people that think there is a problem between Rhodes contract and the CS is the posters here. Rhodes will be getting paid a lot of money next year, and I am sure the Jets are aware of how important a player he is for this defense. Stop worrying people, Rhodes will get paid next year or we recieve a 1st and 3rd. Also, we have a franchise tag so there is plenty of protection and a good relationship. Chill out. I truly believe Coles is the one talking and I am very torn on this. I love Coles as a player but he has mouthed off a lot. It wasnt his choice to go to Washington, it was Snyder's. Coles didnt run for the money he was gift wrapped a lot of money. He hated Washington and was happy to come back to the Jets. But him and Mangini have never been on the same page. Coles wants to retire a Jet and I would love to see him. Coles wants 4 years and Mangini doesnt want to re-negotiate a 2 year contract that Coles signed before Mangini was here. This is truly a business situation and Mangini has every right not to pay Coles. Coles signed the contract before Mangini arrived, its on Coles. Coles has every right to ask for more money he is getting up there in age and football is a very tough sport, he is just thinking about his future and playing out his career here. He has made a lot of money and is really asking for too much from Mangini. Mangini made a legit offer to Coles, but Coles just wants to be guaranteed a job for 4 years with the Jets. He does not want to play out 2 years and then try and sign somewhere else. I agree with both sides of this. Its a very tough situation but Coles does not need to be speaking out like he is, that is disrespect to the Jets. As much as I love him as a player he is on the decline within a few years and this CS has proved they will not pay for that or deal with that. Faneca and Pace are in their prime still. Woody and Jenkins play positions where you can play to an older age. I am with Mangini on this one! Youth?
Could be, but Vilma was very popular among the players, so anyone could have felt that way. The first line is a giveaway to me: ""You pay guys you don't even know, and the guys in the locker room - the guys that have your back - you don't give a damn about them," one player said Tuesday, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "It shows where the loyalty is." The HC went out of his way to get Coles on the same page as him during the long tc practices, and there seemed to be some relief when Coles came out in support of what was being done by the new regime. If so, then maybe in Coles' little mind he thinks he is entitled to a re-negotiated contract for coming out in support of the new HC when there was some underlying grumbling going on.
A jealous player who just because he's been on the team think he deserves something. YOU WENT 4-12 LAST YEAR!
There is no LOYALTY in the NFL - from PLAYERS or TEAMS. If Laveranues Coles could get more money from the Redskins - he'd take it in a heartbeat. Oh yeah, he already did that...didn't he? F the players who say stuff like this. The Jets are like any other team - they take care of the best players when the best players perform. When a player is a FA do they care one ounce about "LOYALTY" to the team or the fans or the city? NOPE! They take the best deal for them - if that means leaving or staying... bunch of spoiled cry babies...
$4 Million? Chickenfeed! Coles has already been guaranteed $11 Million for the next two years, but that ain't good enough. Edit: Hey, no fair! You edited your post from $4Million to $750,000! Care to make it $500,000? LOL
