Did You know, that Coles was a TOP 5 WR in Salary terms last year??????

(TO,Holt, Chambers, Harrison,Coles) Coles made exactly what Marvin Harrison made last year.

Someone needs to tell Coles that Bonus time doesnt come every year.

I didnt know that, but I am not surprised.

look, the money these guys are making is obscene. And considering how many "normal" people are struggling with finances, you wont get any sympathy from me for millionaires who are playing a sport for a living.

I dont like to bash players, and i find it much easier to criticize management types, but gimme a break already with the whining when you already have millions in the bank and a secure contract and job.

On a personal note, my Dad is in the hospital- he had hip replacement surgery yesterday. I spoke to him this morning and I know he's feeling better because he told me that Coles should just shut up about his contract and play.

    First post...

I like the way members from a 4-12 team are complaining they deserve more money. As many have mentioned, we know exactly who it was who was talking. Honestly, after suffering through 16 games last year as a fan, I think a lot of those players should be focused a little bit more on football and less on money. I love how players sign a contract and then want more money 2 years later. Too bad the FO can't demand players restructure the contract because they are under-performing, like a D-Rob. It pisses me off that these prima donas think they are always entitled to more and more money.

I hate to say this, but I understand why Coles is doing this. Look at it from his perspective. His contract isn't guaranteed. He played on one leg last year for a 4-12 team. The team can cut him at any time if it is willing to take the cap hit. Look at Clement and Dyson. The minute a player can't perform or fails a physical, they are cut. Coles is making big bank now, but he knows the gravy train can end at any time and he's just trying to get his before the team decides he can't cut it anymore and brings in someone younger and cheaper. I can't kill him for it, even if I don't like his tactics. He wasn't the problem last year.

I have great respect for Cole and appreciate every catch he makes. We all know what he thinks of himself and what he thinks he deserves. I would tell him the truth, that we are going to let you play out your contract and thats that! With Rhodes I would Franchise him and look at what he does during the season. Next year I would make my assesment and reward accordingly. Lets go Chancy!

Coles should be moved for value but franchising Rhodes without a real effort to work out a long term deal would be a huge mistake.

Didn't Coles get some serious money when he went to Washington? More than some of the Vets that were there?

Coles got serious money in WAS and more money when he was traded back to the Jets.

Most vets and all agents have no memory when it comes to the offseason.

Players contract comes up and they get a market rate deal, they trade the ability to negotiate yearly for financial security (i.e. longer contract / bigger bonus). It is a given that salaries will increase each year and they know this (or at least the agent does).

However, the players do have another option. It is called the one-year contract. If they truly want to get market value every year and are as good as they think they are, make every season a contract year and don't sign long-term deals.

With the cap escalating at the rate it has the previous two years, most veterans have seen players they consider inferior getting bigger deals than them. The blame should go to their agent whose advice they presumeably took in signing a deal that precluded them from being a free agent in these years, not the front office.

I love Coles as a player and he seems like an alright individual from what I have read. However, he is naive/irrational when it comes to business and contracts.

I think the Jets should trade him and any other play that is griping about their contract. 1) No one forced them to sign the contract and 2) the team was 4-12 last season. It is a team game and the team failed last season. Therefore, every player (and coach) failed.

Its just my take on the situation. Rhodes will still get a higher gross pay for one year and the possibility to lock down a long term deal. I personally think they will come to terms. Coles is a player I love and hate. (I felt that way about Curtis too in 98. He made a beleiver out of me) He is a warrior on the field but a whiner in the locker room and in the media.

This is utterly laughable...there aren't a half-dozen players on that team who deserve a salary bump after last season. The mistake they're making with Coles is not moving him; he doesn't deserve the big salary and, as we've seen, he will be toxic if he doesn't get it. The last thing they need next season is starting out with a divisive, Kendall-like situation.

They need to figure out a way to diffuse the Coles situation so hes not constantly bickering. They also need to lockup Rhodes to a 7 year contract and pay him like hes the best safety in football (which he is) and the leader of the defense.

Coming off a 4-12 season, the guys in the locker room who've been here need to shutup about the new talent getting paid, win a Superbowl, then you can ask for a raise.

I understand that. But that's only two years, and then he is out of a job. He's angling for a longer deal and probably more guaranteed money.

I don't think he deserves more years. I understand that it doesn't make sense for the team to give him more years. But you can't blame him for trying to get the most he can get. Players and agents aren't the only ones with short memories in the offseason. Teams also have short memories when the offseason comes and will cut a player in a heartbeat if they can do it and it will help the team.

I'm just saying I can see where Coles is coming from.

Umm...give me one guaranteed year at $5mil & put me out of a job. I'll gladly retire & go away quietly. I have no sympathy for a guy that might be unemployed after pocketing $11million in the previous 2 years.

Players, agents and front-office know that the most important numbers that matters in a contract is the guaranteed dollars and first year salary.

Salaries are not guaranteed. It is written in contracts and is as easy to understand as any clause you will ever see in a contract.

No kidding, but in Coles defense, he needs to keep the lanes on his bowling alley waxed in his mansion. That shit cost money. Pretty sad that someone isn't happy with $11 million.
