Let me edit this article: An anonymous veteran on the Jets, only known as Theloneus Knolls, expressed his distrust of management and anger over giving new FAs more money than himself. Knolls was quoted as saying "Man, I don't care how many 1000 yard seasons I had, I want a pay day. I've been bitching to them for years to give me the green"

More Negativity........I am tired of it!

We need to win this year to shut everyone up!

VETERAN JET GRUMBLING ABOUT SPENDING SPREE

In 2007, Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum acknowledged that "[t]here are consequences" to spending big money in free agency.

And he didn't know how right he was.

An anonymous Jets veteran (cough . . . Laveranues Coles . . . cough) has sounded off regarding the recent splurging.

"You pay guys you don't even know, and the guys in the locker room -- the guys that have your back -- you don't give a damn about them," the unnamed player told Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News. "It shows where the loyalty is."

Meanwhile, Tannenbaum says that building through the draft is "still our core belief and philosophy."

Let's face it, Tannenbaum and the Jets are caught between a team in their own division and a team in their own town -- the Pats and the Giants.

Observed one media insider: "Signing a declining Damien Woody from a bad Detroit [offensive line] and then changing his position might be the single dumbest move this year. Trading [linebacker Jonathan] Vilma for very little may be the second, although I'm not sure about his knee. And he has no clue what to do with [defensive tackle Dewayne] Robertson.

"He ignores the fact that the Giants signed one low-level [free agent] last year and let him go this year. They won because six draft choices contributed a lot. Tannebaum, who was a money man until he convinced [owner] Woody Johnson that he knew football, can't draft as well as [Giants G.M.] Jerry Reese."

The Giants are the toast of New York, the Patriots are the kings of the conference, and in our view the Jets are merely just another mediocre team that is trying too hard escape from quicksand.

Veteran who is not Coles, but because of Coles' situation, felt they could talk like this because people will think it is Coles. I think this was posted already though.

Anything this franchises does is never the right thing for someone. Like you said, to shut up everyone, this team needs to win.

The funny thing is the players complaining now are the same ones who would be complaining if we didn't get anyone in FA and then went 6-10 next year. "Well, we pobably would have done better if they used the Free Agent market more. The talent was there last year to fix a lot of things on this team and they didn't bring anybody in."

The media has been waiting for Tangini to mess up since Herm left.

They gave them lots of ammo last season. 4-12 for an organization that has locked out the media is going to generate a lot of negativity. They want the Jets to fail.

I like what the Jets have done in FA, but there will be a price.

If they don't make the playoffs this season their butts are toast. They have rolled the dice, think/hope it pays off

I actually can kind of see that...it's pretty obvious that Mangini's philosophy of keeping everything on the DL has pissed alot of the media off...and I even got the impression that reporters saw him as kind of a rat in the Spygate scandal.

But yea...he doesn't get on his knees and hand them a story, and thats going to piss any reporter off.

Sucks though, because Mangini should realize that if you control you media you control what the fans think. Herm bought himself time despite poor FA signings and poor drafting by talking about things like his family, friends, workout routines, and basically whatever else would make the media write good shit about him. But I guess the "I don't give a fuck" mentality is cool too, but you really need your owner backing you 100% for that to work. Seems like Woody believes fully in Mangini and Tannenbaum.

I don't get this statement at all. Yes the Giants only signed 2 low-level free agents, but how about the years before that with McKenzie and Burress?

And Reese drafts better than Tannebuam? I don't know...Washington, Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick are all solid. And E.Smith, B.Smith, Stuckey, Clemens all look promising.

The Jets have a lot more holes to fill. The Giants were much much further along.

And this is another uninformed statement. Woody played at RT the last 6 games of last season. But there is a real chance the Jets will draft a RT in the draft and put Woody in at RG. Plus he is great for OL depth an area where we were thin.

He also completely ignores the Jets hired Callahan, one of the best Oline coaches in the NFL. I have a strong suspicion that he endorsed Woody.

Who is this media "insider" he talked too? Prisco or King? Sounds like an uninformed idiot.

That comment is based on Reese going 8 for 8 last year in guys who truly contributed. Although Tanny has gone 9 for 14 in guys who have contributed to the team in some way. So, if Reese goes 1 for 6 this year-- they are the same GM.

Carl Banks was asked about this "kurfluffle" in Cimini's blog today. He says there're two guys who are "lifers" that made a great contribution and will in the future that you have to treat fairly. He names Coles and Rhodes. Carl Banks says the others don't have a leg to stand on. "Look at the record! What has anybody else done to win games? Nothing, that's what."

He says the NYJ are spending money to try to get people that can help them win games. They already know what the team can do.

Agreed. As for me, they are under contract and geting paid a decent buck; if they keep it up; sue them for breech of contract and move on. Enough is enough already.

Last year was hugely painful for me to watch. One could make a good argument that we were 1-15 just like the Dolphins because our only decent game was the Pittsburgh game; the rest of the wins were either garbage or against a garbage team.

The FO has paid big money in an attempt to make it so we don't have to watch that again for awhile, and I, as a long time Jets fan really appreciate the effort even if it doesn't totally work out as planned. At least they did something rather than nothing. And, they did go after the bigger names that were out there instead of paying nobodies and hoping they will make the team in July.

If the guys who are mouthing off don't stop, I am all for trading, cutting, or suing them right now.

I love the way LC plays the game, but enough is enough with this guy. I'm quite sure with all the money he's been paid the last 8 years he doesn't have to go 'shopping' at Dillards anymore! Granted, he's performed well up until last season, but going forward with him and his constant bitching about money is ridiculous.

LC should take a lesson from Curtis on how to conduct himself while he's masqerading as a 'Team Captain'...

    What a joke!

    LMAO

    Good one.

If it is Coles who said it, he is following the Pete Kendall blueprint for getting traded away by Gang Green.

I love LC but I have no sympathy for him. He whined about money and got traded to Washington and got a huge new contract. The he whined in Washington and got traded back to the Jets and renegotiated his contract to get more money. Now he's whining again. The guy can play, but he's never happy. It's too the point where I wouldn't be heartbroken if we moved on.
