I continue to be mystified by the Jet fan predilection for mediocre Qb's. Ever heard of the adage you get what you pay for? Yes, in FA teams have hits and misses. But the market value of a player is based on what the market, meaning NFL teams, think he will be worth. Players who get less money in FA do so why? Because the market thinks they are not as good. I have no doubt that Cutler is the best player on the OP's list. I also understand the Jets will have a combination of their core players under contract, some young players who are promising, and a outsized number of draft picks which under the current rules can be turned into players signed at low numbers. they also will have a goodly amount of money to spend under the cap. I understand it's a big if, but IF the Jets could get Cutler, no other single move would improve the team more. If they can't, then yes they need to look at other options. But I can't understand the logic that we as fans should actually prefer to bring in a mediocre vet, just because he would cost less money. He would cost less money because he would be worth less.
What? Leading his team to a 3-10 record? Stat-padding on bad teams? He was the man dude. Lmao @ your man-love for Kyle Orton, a back-up that lost his job to Tebow, who btw revitalized the team despite playing like absolute shit. Oh wait, are you going to blame it on the fans? You go ahead and look at his game-log while you think about your answer because QB Rating is the end all be.
You want to go all in on Cutler and it is possible that such a strategy could work. I think that there is more than one way we could build a winning roster so I am not saying that Cutler could not work out but I do think that spreading the money around to fill more holes would be less risky and could work better (unless we somehow get Graham).
Well, I know it's a big if, but if the Jets could get a good draft this coming off season, with all the picks they have, they would be able to fill a number of holes with competent and low paid rookies. Especially if Milliner can stick, they should be able to field a good team, as long as they are getting good play at Qb. I explained my view earlier in this thread why I do not see the option of using a high pick in the draft at Qb is the way to go. Since Smith cannot be depended on for next season, the logic is to use the available cap space to fix this problem. Any FA pick involves some risk, but it should be less risk than a draft pick. This concededly is balanced by the higher cost, and of course I am not suggesting that the Jets should overpay to get Cutler. My point is merely that if as expected he would get a bigger contract than some of the others mentioned on this thread, that's because the market would perceive him as worth it. You get what you pay for.
