Most straight people (even though we all know gays) are pretty isolated from the gay community. It's a different world. If you are in NYC or any city and walk through a gay neighborhood like the West Village you'll get a glimpse of that. Guys kissing guys, and girls the same thing walking hand in hand, etc. It's not easy watching two guys kiss on the lips. But that's too bad for straights they are going to have to accept that. Gay marriage is now a reality and that's really one of the cornerstones in terms of acceptance of gays into everyday life and coming out of the closet. So I can see what Sam is trying to do and he's in a way kind of a hero for doing it. But it's hard for most of us to accept.
So basically neither of you even saw it. If that's making out, then I've made out with WAY more women than I thought I did. Three quick pecks, no tongue, and hugging. God forbid he did what EVERY SINGLE other guy did with their significant others if they were together when they got the news.
Just one more thing. The gay activists agenda is that society looks at homosexuality as just another flavor of life: different but equal. Another variety similar to race, religion, etc. And there is no stigma attached. Like other special interest groups they are actively lobbying the media, etc. to get this message across and to change society. On TV just like you will see a commercial with Afrtican Americans and women in prominent non stereotypical roles (a doctor, a lawyer, upper middle class-for example the Huxtables, etc) you now see gays buying houses and products like it's no big deal. Believe me it will take a generation to get this message across. I know in my generation we don't totally buy it even though many people are against discrimination to gays etc.
Most people are not a fan of public displays of affection whether it's from a gay person or a straight person. It simply makes them uncomfortable. In this scenario I just find it to be very out of place as others have mentioned; rarely do you see players ever kiss their significant others when they get drafted so why did Michael Sam need to do this? I don't really have a problem with it but it was obviously a very scripted move. The idea behind all of this is to desensitize the "straight" community so that twenty years down the line there won't even be a need for players to reveal that they are either gay or straight. My personal opinion is that it is simply ridiculous on both parties but I understand it to some extent. EDIT: On the same account I really don't think there would be as much of an outrage over it if it were done by two straight people which is why I understand the point of why it's not really a big deal.. I just don't really think it was necessary. I just don't like the fact that he has gotten such overwhelming support when the reality of the matter is that he is what he is gay or not; he's not a very good football players and was a 7th round draft pick. I don't ever like the idea of a subpar football player getting all of the attention and publicity he has gotten as I just don't think players should get this attention for their personal life that involves nothing illegal or wrong. As I said though I understand what the movement is about; push the publicity of it so that 20 years down the road it will hopefully be accepted and there will never be a need for publicity of someone's sexual orientation
I wasn't trashing Sam. If you'll read my earlier posts, you'll see that I was defending him. After seeing it, you're right, it was nothing.
It probably will take a generation. In our culture, things that should be quick to change or better, should never have existed in the first place, take forever to change. Things that should take a long time or shouldn't change at all, change in a NY minute. It just shows how effed up our culture/society is.
So we should not be interested in Sam even though he is the only player being talked about in this thread, and that him being gay has nothing to do with anything? Got it.
I heard Michael Sam is showing up to the veterans combine not to try out for a football team but because he heard there is going to be a bunch of men working out and he wants to check that out
its no wonder they spent 3/4ths of the time showing and talking about the slow stiff guy from mizzou... you guys have talked about him for pages. how about we talk about his performance, slow and stiff and move on to other stuff that actually matters in football. he is not a guy who deserves to be on an nfl roster right now because he is too small, too slow and too stiff to play any position well.
i disagree wholeheartedly. it gives guys a chance to be seen by all 32 teams in a single showing. i bet it is more in depth next year and they expand the amount of stuff they do. now the teams only had to take a few hours out to see 105 players and where they are now. the guys who were injured for the past 2 years tape doesnt really matter at this point. its what they were able to do now. i bet that 10 teams wanted to see what felix jones looked like. now they didnt have to spend time and energy to bring him in and he didnt have to waste time and energy flying all over the place. they both showed up in one place and everyone saw he is not the speedy quick twitch guy he once was. and BOTH parties can move on with their situations.
