If he is not released, nobody will flinch. If Colts do pick up Andrew Luck, that means potentially Colts are tying up good 30~35M on QB position alone - and the team as a whole is that much weaker. Why would ANYONE flinch?
They are tying up more than that. Manning still has a base salary of $7 million after his $28 million dollar bonus. His deal is for $35 million in 2012. Then add in Luck's salary and its an amazing amount being spent on the QB position. Unless Manning renegotiates it would be very hard for the Colts to keep him and Luck. It just does not make sense to pay both.
So if you, as a GM, want Manning on your team, will you offer anything more than ham sandwich and a bottle of coke to Colts?
I'm pretty sure that Sanchez is worth a heckuva lot more than a crummy 4th round pick, give me a break. But, Sanchez isn't going anywhere since he's leading the Jets to the Superbowl.
it is actually an interesting quiz, but i would not say a heckuva lot more. 4th sounds a bit shy though.
In related news, the sky is blue, prices for apartments in Manhattan are sky high, and Mitt Romney wants President Obama's job. This is such a no-brainer that this team is the best chance for Manning to win that I am truly stunned when I read some people on here claim this team isn't very good. This is a great team, with several holes, and an awful qb. You replace the qb and fill some of the holes (you dont even need to fill them all), and this team is winning 17 games next year.
Thats how I feel...we could have an "elite" defense and an elite offense. We would be putting up 30 points every game and holding our opponents to less than 20. We havent won a Superbowl in 43 years and with Peyton I think we could all agree that this would be the best Jets team ever. Of course if we fail to win a Super Bowl it will look really bad, but im confident we could if Peyton stayed healthy for about 3-4 season.
4th round??? WTF? Im pretty sure that we could get at least a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th. Look at fucking Kevin Kolb. We could probably even get a first from a QB desperate team like the Seahawks.
You don't get it? Let me clear things up. I have a 1969 Camaro SS in my garage. It's a restoral project. It's the fastest fucking car on the road, except it doesn't have an engine or wheels. See?
It's more like we are missing a rearview mirror and a couple of knobs on the dashboard (assuming we get Manning). With Sanchez, this car is missing the engine.
I think fair value for Sanchez is a mid to late 1st (20-25~) OR a 2nd + 3rd or 4th And that would be EASY to get. I think most people realize Sanchez gets it worse than anyone because hes playing in NY, he has consinstently outperformed Flacco and Ryan, and doesnt have the weapons (especially halfbacks) that either of them do. Dont get me wrong Sanchez is no Brady or Peyton, but the guy has at least another 13 years left in his career, and has another at least another 5-6 until he peaks. 5-6 years of improving, and he can absolutely be a top 5 QB (and it helps that Brees/Peyton/Brady/Vick will all be out of the nfl by then lol)
What solid engine? The solid engine you are talking about is about to explode on one bad hit, and to make the matter worse, is about at the tail end of its natural life cycle. Wake up, son.
I will explain this once again. A. None of us are Peyton Manning's doctors, and 99% of us are not even doctor's (and the doctor's that are present, there are probably very few actual surgeons who have actually performed similar procedures). So, to talk with certainty about another man's neck is quite proposterous. B. Do you actually think that if Manning is released, the Jets offer him a contract, and he accepts that the team will not have Manning's neck tested by at least 3 to 5 of the top neck surgeons in the country? Do you honestly think that? And do you honestly think that if even one of these guys says that Manning is one hit from the glue factory that this contract is ever getting signed? I mean seriously. Can we use some common sense here and stop pretending we are his doctor's. Getting Manning, and me talking about getting Manning, assumes that he can pass a team physical and can be okay'ed by top specialists at places at Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, one of the Harvard teaching Hospital's, and one of the great hospital's in NY. If he cant, this is clearly a moot point.
There's gonna be some sad pandas when Peyton Manning either retires or doesn't consider the Jets as a destination.
