Just one piece of information. 6 teams are competing for a spot and currently USA holds the third spot. 3 top teams will advance to World Cup 4th team will go to intercontinental play-off.
Good grief, seven of the nine games in the group have been a draw so far. The US still has plenty of work to do even though they did what they needed to this week. No, the sloppy challenge from behind in the last fifteen minutes. That was definitely a penalty, and probably will start the conspiracy theorists saying FIFA wants the US in the World Cup after what happened in the Costa Rica game.
we suck but we'll take the point. Clearly Mexico should have gotten the penaltyshot there but fuck them
Biggest thing I took our of this is our Euro based players Bradley, Dempsey and Altidore looked sloppy and disconnected. Our young MLS backs Gonzalez and Besler looked great and bode really well for the future. Those 2 are stars in the MLS and its good to see them shine on the international stage. Oh and the USA has the best goaltending in the world.
Its amazing how a makeshift team held their own last night...Mexico could not break the wall...Its a problem Mexico has and I dont know why they have Chicarito as the sole striker most of the time.
This 2 guys on the defense who have never played in a game this big, no Goodson, No Donovan, no Howard.. no problem. I thought Omar Gonzalez was ridiculous last night and Besler played very good as well. We really didn't have very many oppurtunities to score but I think the goal was to play for a draw and if we get lucky (which we did) we'll take it. It would have been silly to go aggressive on offense not knowing what you were gonna get from Gonzalez and Besler. Considering the US has played on the road in the 2 toughest enviornments 3 games in could have been a killer, instead we've survived and are in great shape. If we can beat Jamaica in a few months we'll be in an amazing shape as that only leaves 2 trips out of the states in our next 6. Mexico will be fine although they probably should have lost to Jamaica, they clearly needed Reyna in there earlier and for some reason Aquino stopped attacking Beasley in the 2nd half.
Mexico's next two games are away from home...Expect the heat to pick up on the coach. Also alot of "Why Reyna was not starting??"
The man got beat so often and abused like crazy. He played a position that was not his regular role and he hung on for dear life and made some game saving stops
