this whole searching for a new TC is becoming a mess... its sad... might as well kept at Hofstra like you said. Its now more traffic to sit in if its going to be in STB... 2 hrs+ more traffic.
Stony Brook is about 3 miles from my house- I certainly wouldn't shed any tears if they made the move to come out my way.
thanks for the fantastic input.... now explain to me how it would make fiscal sense..... lets remember we just spent 75 million on a brand new facility and i am sure we will have to pay dearly for the use of a college for how long this summer? all so that a few upstate jets fans can watch practice while the rest of upstate new york continues to hate the jets? before favre how many people would you say on average went to tc on a daily basis? from what i remember reading it was somewhere in the lower thousands... now even if we did get 5k people at tc, just exactly how many do you really expect to become jets fans when they CANT see the games every week on tv? i know i wouldnt be a huge fan of a team that i could never see play. and even if they did... the jets get nothing from the gates at tc, highly unlikely they are going to be taking the stroll down the thruway for 10 games a year at 250 bucks a pop. we wont get anything in tv contract money for them... hmm maybe we will sell some jerseys.... so 5k i would say no more than 10 to 20% will go out and buy a jersey. so 500 jerseys half of which will probably not be nfl licensed.. wait i have been to that area 90% will not be nfl licensed. so really what do the jets gain from this wonderful plan?
Should have stayed at Hofstra...friggin idiots! My son just got an intership with them...but he doesn't know where he will be...
This would be awesome- Stony Brook is essentially my backyard. This will be my last summer on Long Island before I move... somewhere... so this would be icing on the cake. The Jets should have camp out here- it's well separated from the city and is isolated enough but still allows the thousands of Jets fans on the Island to see the Jets. I'd be amped if this ends up happening. Lavalle Stadium isn't huge, but its a real nice stadium. They have adequate practice fields around here too.
that's even worse... he has an internship and his employer is running around without a clue as to where they will be holding practice. its just not thought out well.
So basically Upstate NYers don't deserve Jets minicamp because they're not on TV up here and by the Jets not holding minicamp around the city they will lose downstate fans? You must be a thinker. **And a side note. A high amount of Upstaters have DirectTV, and the Jets games are ALWAYS on. I live in the Finger Lakes and haven't missed a game on TV since '95.
Wtf did they leave Hofstra for? They should have rebuilt Hofstra...but what do you expect from a team that has been living off 1 Super Bowl for 41 years...
Agreed! Back home I had DirectTV and when ever i am home during football season i get the Jets game, and when i am up at school and those fucking Bills are on, I simply go down to the local Sports bar, and watch the game without sound. Would be more than nice to have TC near the Finger Lakes!
He does have a point though. You can't possibly tell me that as high a percentage of upstate New Yorkers are Jets fans as people in LI or the city or in Jersey. Noone is doubting that you watch every game, but the Jets FO doesn't cater to us TGG people. We'll sadly be fans and watch shit and buy shit from them no matter what. They cater to the average to below average fan who needs to be persuaded to watch games annd give the Jets their money. And those fans aren't the ones who buy DirecTV so they can watch every game. Or typically live in Upstate NY
Jets want their training camp at SUNY Cortland The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y., reports that the Jets have picked SUNY Cortland as their top choice to host the team?s training camp over Cornell University, Utica College and Marist College. Neither the Jets nor Cortland officials have confirmed the report. The Jets had previously trained at Hofstra University and recently moved into a $75 million facility in Florham Park, N.J. However, new Jets coach Rex Ryan wants at least part of training camp to be held away from New York for team-building purposes. The New York Daily News reports that Syracuse University would like to host a preseason game at the Carrier Dome if the Jets do end up spending their summers at Cortland, which is 33 miles down the road > http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/04/15/jets-have-picked-suny-cortland-to-host-training-camp/ ________________________ > http://www.thecure.com/default.aspx
thank you for understanding what i was trying to say and putting it in different terms. hopefully that will make some more sense than the way i put it.
I almost created a new thread to post this, but it fits better here and it will be more funny to laugh at the people blaming Woody for TC not being in Jersey. http://www.thejetsblog.com/2009/04/16/link-notes-from-camp/#more-11492 Makes sense to me ... This may have already been posted, please attack me unmercifully if it has.
Now that, is an interesting quote. Good find WSW. Maybe this will help people to relax about the situation as opposed to just freaking out. Besides this isnt supposed to be for all of camp, but only a part of it.
