As I recall the 95 season involved a lot of the jets falling behind by three scores in the first half and then making a great almost comeback in garbage time. Teams toyed with us like a cat toys with a wounded mouse trying to escape. It was a nightmare. What is comparable is that it was such a "no hope" point in my fandom - and that part matches the Gase years. There are also some stand out years by coaches not on the list. Herm Edwards straight up quit on us his last season. He was like a zombie.
Winning is better than being ‘close’ right? Kotites teams were blown out a lot and had a number of double digit losses on top of that.
W Kotite & where things are headed w Gase, there was a sense that it was so bad that it would result in positive impactful change. Bowles there was no hope.It was boring, hopeless, depressing & bleak.
Bowles was boring, but I could at least respect him. He was just a guy in the wrong job. I understand why the Jets wanted a coach like that at the time-- a reflexive counter to Rex's Happy Clown/Sad Clown routine. Kotite was a bumbling cartoon character and Gase is some kind of inept villain. Not respectable at all.
Yes. More fun though--those teams seemed like watching a race car going full throttle with a loose steering wheel. It crashed and burned at every opportunity, and even created it's own extra special opportunities. This team is more like watching a race car sit in the pit with the hood up. It was worse though. I spent most of the Kotite years holding my breath to see if simple things like the Center snapping the ball to the QB would be a disaster or not.
Here, start at 1:30. Or watch the whole thing if you want to see how bad the Holtz year (months) was. Holtz was before my time.
I know that is an NFL film but I could have sworn the Marino fake spike play happened in 1994 during the Pete Carroll year - not in 1996 under Kotite?
Man that brought back some bad memories! Lol. That shovel pass to other team was memorable for me! Kotite another coach that rode coattails of winning teams, we got shot not capable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Those Philly teams were talented, so Kotite could only screw it up, same with Gase, Denver with Peyton... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You are correct. The narrator says, "...the Jets troubles began two years earlier against Marino and the Dolphins..." right as that clip starts.
