I wouldn't say that... we've got Potter, Cook, Southerland, Conley and Pizzotti who IMO can all make the team. I sure would've liked if we got Ellerbe, Beckwith or Baker but it's not like everyone is going to come here...
Mambo This is my understanding: In football, UFA's get between $1,000 and $25,000 (few get over 20K). The most the Jets have paid in recent years for a UDFA is 2k (Danny Woodhead). They typically go for the 2K types and not the 10-25K UFA's, like some other teams. The Vikings are constantly thowing money at UFA's and few big names stick (wasted money?). Bradway made the comment that throwing 10,000 to 25,000K at the top UFA's made little sense and he CHANGED COURSE a few years ago, citing the Vikings overpaying for names and not talent. It seems that Bradway has put the onus on the scouts to find the lesser known, cheaper gems. This is a theory based on some posts I have read over the last couple of years. Bradway has said he would not go after the "big names", Tanny seems to be similar..... the "big names" are mostly guys that media would categorize as college stars that were "draft snubs", or players that just missed getting drafted. Just look at the numbers for some of the UDFA's we have signed so far: OL Ryan McKee Southern Mississippi, N.Y. Jets ($2,000) DE Zach Potter, Nebraska, N.Y. Jets ($2,000 DE Jamaal Westerman, Rutgers, N.Y. Jets ($2,000) OC Michael Parenton, Tulane, N.Y. Jets ($2,000) Here are some of the big bonus numbers for the big name UDFA's so far: $25,000: DT Marlon Favorite, Carolina $20,000: FS Colt Anderson, Minnesota & WR Larry Beavers, Carolina $15,000: DE Tremaine Johnson, Arizona; DE Chris Baker, Denver; LB Russell Allen, Jacksonville; DE Juluis Williams, Jacksonville; SS Rashard Langford, Philadelphia; FS Marshall McDuffie, Tampa Bay Other "notables", just to show the 'ranges' for UFA's. If these players don't make it, this is all they keep: LB Kevin Malast, Chicago ($5,000);WR Kevin Ogletree, Dallas ($12,000); FB Jason Cook, Baltimore ($1,000); WR Quan Cosby, Cincinnati ($7,500) Props to Riggins44 for the info!!
He said he hasn't talked to him about how much money yet. I'm also interested to know how much UDFA's get so I'll get back to you all if I find out.
wow nice finds ... anyways I was just arguing that I thought the Jets brought home some good talent with this years UDFA... I had no idea if they were spending a lot or if they weren't.
just bonus numbers that they recieve for making the team. Shocking isnt it? People cant live on 20K a year, and you have NFL players complaining they cant find a way to feed their families on 8+ million a year... just absolutely ludacris.
DT Ty Steinkuhler signs with Jets..not Bengals DT Signs With Jets, Not Bengals by Ed Thompson of ScoutNFLNetwork.com, April 29, 2009 at 4:51pm ET Ty Steinkuhler Profile Numerous media outlets reported that Nebraska DT Ty Steinkuhler had agreed to terms or signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie free agent, but Scout.com has been told by his agent that Steinkuhler has actually signed a contract with the New York Jets. Steinkuhler appeared in 46 games for the Huskers, logging 88 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. http://nyj.scout.com/a.z?s=65&p=9&c=2&cid=861343&nid=3666674&fhn=1 Overview Ty is a 2004 graduate of Southwest High School in Lincoln, Nebraska where he was a two-way terror. He made Journal Star 1st-team Super-State pick as a linebacker his senior year. The World-Herald named him a first-team All-Nebraska pick as a lineman, and a first-team Class A all-state linebacker. During his senior year he racked up an astounding 163 tackles, including 98 unassisted. Steinkuhler was largely responsible for turning around a moribund program that had been 0-9 record in their inaugural season in 2002. Steinkuhler also lettered three times in basketball and four times in track. At Nebraska, Ty redshirted his freshman year in 2004, and saw limited action in 2005. In 2006, he played in all 14 games with 22 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, a half sack and a forced fumble. In 2007, he played in 10 games, started 8, and tallied 13 tackles, 4 TFLs, another forced fumble and a hurry. During his senior season, he started all 13 games put up 21 solos, 27 assists, 8 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, 3 hurries and a forced fumble. Ty really shone bright at the Nebraska Pro Day on 3/12/09 running his forties in 4.92 and 4.89 at 283 pounds, nailing a 31" vertical jump, a 9'3" broad jump, a 4.56 short shuttle, a 7.38 three-cone drill and 23 bench press reps. Strengths Lunch pail, high-effort guy with better athleticism than you might think at first blush. Comes to play every snap. One-gap force who is not easily routed out. Has some wheels and if he beats his man, he closes quickly to the QB. Can collapse the pocket unless doubled. Similar in some ways to the Patriot's backup nose tackle, Mike Wright. Weaknesses Not very big, and may not have the frame to get much bigger without losing the shiftiness that makes him special. Bit straight-linish. Times faster than he plays. Needs more suddenness in all aspects of his game. Projection Prioty UDFA. http://cdsdraft.com/profile.php?id=3582 He was also team captain with ZACH POTTER our other UDFA. 3 More Try Out Players At JETS Mini Camp FSU kicker Gary Cismesia, Jack Simmons TE, Minnesota Josh Hunt is getting an opportunity to chase a football dream this weekend. Hunt, the former Lumen Christi High School and Eastern Michigan University defensive lineman, has been invited to attend the New York Jets minicamp. Hunt, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound defensive tackle, leaves Thursday for New York. The camp runs Friday through Sunday. I looked up Cismesia. Not bad at all. He was FSU's full-time kicker before Gano took over as PK in addition to P He had a 53-yd and 60-yd FG at FSU http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/stats?playerId=168469
Does anyone have a list of the unsigned players who the Jets are giving tryouts to at the rookie minicamp? Tom K
he also choked on some clutch kicks, regardless he does have a solid leg. whatever Graham Gano is the shit who picked him up? REGARDLESS GREGG CARR IS A CHARGER. THAT BLOWS.
jets loading up with undrafted free agents it seems like the jets had these picks on their draft board before the draft. I hope that they can find a good blocking tight end and a defensive end to fill in the gap of the players that were traded to cleveland.in the past the jets have found a few gems in the undrafted free agents that were available after the draft. it looks like a lot of teams are doing the same.
Yeah, UFA's are truly the shotgun approach. Give em a shot, and keep the one or two that hit. Would be nice to find a blocking tight-end, and I know the DE we picked up Zach Potter isn't bad, a little underweight ATM but he has a good frame to fill out. We'll see what we come up with. I'd rather have a solid tackle block at the tight end position if we can't find a good "true TE" UFA or regular FA.
And here is the list of 16 tryout players who are also working at the rookie minicamp: Kevin Akins S, Boston College Lance Brandenburgh, LB Nebraska Gary Cismesia, K Florida State Manny Collins, CB Rutgers George Covington, LB Maryland Casey Dick, QB Arkansas Anthony Harris, DT/LS Western New Mexico Josh Hunt, NT Eastern Michigan Craig Kobel LBSouth Florida Ottis Lewis, WR Hofstra Kenny O'Neal, WRFlorida State Allen Patrick, RB Oklahoma Jack Simmons, TE Minnesota Sean Smalls, CB Massachusetts Brian Toal, LB Boston College Stephen Valenta, OL Cornell
