Obviously not an UDFA but I'm happy to see Khiry Robinson coming into camp...I think the kid is a pretty hard runner and could really be a good addition to our RB stable if he can somehow make the team and stay healthy. Probably a long shot but....
Jets claimed former Baylor WR KD Cannon off waivers from 49ers, per a source. Which could be interesting as he was one of Petty's go-to guys at Baylor.
I went to school and played with Anthony Dimarsico. Forever the fastest player on the field at all times. Hope he makes it. He ran a 4.39 at his pro day which would've ranked nineth fastest at the combine. #54 was me in some of those highlights for the high school one lol.
I'll be honest though. We don't need a fullback that is a receiving threat. Few teams use them in that capacity. If they need someone that can catch the ball they'll look to the seven receivers on the roster, with four of them on the field. We need a lead blocker. Bohanon sucked at everything so I'm not sure how he carved out a roster spot for a couple years. I want a blocker that can stay on his blocks, not whiff on one out of every two blocks and come up with a preseason highlight block like James Conner.
If your FB can only lead block, he's on the field maybe 5 or 6 plays every game, and the opponents know exactly what you you'll be doing. My point is that a 5 play a game exclusive lead blocker is not a good use of a roster spot. The guy needs more versatility than lead blocking, whether that be playing specials, H-back, being a receiving threat, etc.. And I disagree that we don't need the FB to be a receiving threat, especially in a west coast O. Have to keep defenses on their toes...and have to be less predictable.
Dying breed in the NFL. Too predictable when they are in the game..typically not athletic enough to make a sizable difference. Things have a way of coming back around though...give it 4-5 years when some team decides to start running the ball down all these undersized D's throats w. great success....and we'll see Full backs, Blocking TE's,mauling OL, etc making a major comeback.
It may take an innovative mind not worried about perception to convert a skill player at TE/RB into some sort of hybrid H-back role. The possibilities would be endless schematically...and would give defense's fits. Could you imagine an offense w. a dual threat QB, a legit RB...and the aforementioned Hybrid H back? Defense's would be forced to stay face up in short areas zones almost constantly...
Have the Guarantee and Bonus #'s for the UDFAs come available yet? Those were interesting from last year, as Thomas (15k), Anderson (10k), Marshall (12.5k), and Middleton (15k) got the most money and 3 of the 4 made the team with Middleton finishing on the final roster (Vander Laan also got 10k). Not big numbers compared to the $40k now owed to Cannon- but shows at least what the team thinks of a player heading into camp. I'd only seen the Syracuse kids #'s (15k I believe)- but had seen articles from other teams detailing out their whole class... Not to say it matters, but makes the stories on the UDFAs slightly more interesting if there is some sort of money behind it (all small dollars- but a $1k bonus or $5k bonus hasn't seen much success latching on with this FO)
Looking at his film he reminds me of a heavier Robbie Anderson, though Robbie catches with his hands more often. Could explain the instant chemistry Petty had with Anderson. “From what I saw at Friday minicamp, Cannon didn’t show much urgency or hustle … but could be more reasons he got cut,” Inman posted on Twitter. -Mike Inman Bay Area Reporter We have some good UDFA talent this year .. lets see if any make it.
