Yeah. Ragdolled. So that's Tyson Alualu against the "instant starter" Mike Iupati. I'd be willing to make a vcash wager that he goes in the second round.
well Iupati isn't used to being outside on an end, but more importantly on a 3 step drop that ball is gone before Iupati gets tossed around. But It just makes me more curious about Alualu having him toss a big time player around
Not in here here a lot. Just like in the video, this guy seems like he can be a player. However, my take is he seems to take too long to shed a blocker. Even on the highlight video he gets on the blocker but it takes him too long to shed him for the pro's. In college it looks great but you do not get that time in the pro's. Just my opinion. Of course a good line coach.....
Kid's a BEAST. Have been scouting him for a little while ( watching vids, reading stats, analysis's) He'd be an exceptional 3-4 DE my only concern is does he drop to pick 29 in the second?
Yes. If he doesn't last until then, somebody overpaid. I really, really like the idea of Tyson Alualu and Mike DeVito competing for that spot opposite Ellis. Rex Ryan wants him some Samoan fury! Poi for all!
I like almost everything about this kid and think he'd look great in green and white. Should be interesting to see who is available with that first rounder, since I think he'd fit in perfectly with our 2nd pick.
So I'm a little late on the Alualu train, but after watching some game vids, you can consider me fully signed up! Can someone explain why this kid isn't considered a 1st round prospect, but instead a 2nd-3rd? I know his combine numbers were average compared to others, but W(ho)TF cares?? This kid is relentless getting after the ball. Down after Down. Am I missing something? I would LOVE this kid at 61, but I have next to no hopes he'll still be sitting there, despite his round projections...
Well, he's listed at 6'3", 295, but in all honesty he looks smaller than that. He's not a physical freak like Carlos Dunlap. What he is is a tenacious motherfucker who will give top effort on every play, run or pass. The question is, will his top effort be enough to move bigger, stronger guards and tackles at the next level? I think it will, but I understand the debate.
Alualu IS 6'3 295 though, and his combine weigh in proved that. It's not like Cal pulled a Texas Tech and listed him at 6'5 310 or something.
If he is there at 61, I would love to see the Jets pick him up. He would be a killer on this defense and allow the Jets to leave Pouha inside at NT, spelling Jenkins more often.
No, I understand. But he plays low. That's good to some degree because he can get under a lineman and drive him back, but I think the fact that he has had some difficulty locating the ball at times has a lot to do with that. I like 3-4 d-linemen who can keep their eyes on the quarterbacks and running backs while they're engaged with offensive linemen. ADDED: I don't wanna spend too much time knocking the kid, though. Just trying to provide a little balance. Dude's a wendigo.
I see no problems with 6'3", and what's so difficult about adding another ~10lbs? It seems to be more about scouts putting too much emphasis on (combine) numbers, than football talent. But I suppose I shouldn't complain; he might just be there late in the 2nd.
I found it somewhat suggestive that rotoworld had these two blurbs back-to-back: I feel pretty silly about my above prediction that Alualu should last to the Jets round two pick. He won't. If the Jets want him, they need to either secure him at 29 or drop down to the top half of the second.
People say this about certain prospects every year, and every year there are guys who go much later than expected. Last year I heard people say there was no way Jarron Gilbert fell to our second round pick and he ended up going in the 3rd
That's a valid parallel. Another valid parallel might be Ziggy Hood, whom many declared a reach in the first, a value in the second, a steal in third. Steelers made him a first rounder.
If he doesn't go in the first round, the Jets could trade up in the 2nd round to get him. That's a trade up I wouldn't really mind since it would be much cheaper than trading up in the first. If we grab Griffen or Sapp in then trading up for a DLine player would not be out of the question. It could even be done for our 2nd rounder and Bryan Thomas if the right team misses out on an OLB.
I was doing a mock for another forum today and I actually came across Tyson and considered him as our 1st rounder. I hope the Jets go: 1. DE 2. OLB 4. S 6. Zoltan 7. Mickey Shuler, Jr. I think DE and OLB are interchangeable if there is better value at OLB in the first and if a 3-4 DE is considered a big reach in the first.
I dunno about taking a safety in the 4th, unless he's a really high upside player. The Jets depth at safety is fine IMO. I'd want to see them either pick a guy early who they'd expect to start by the 2011 season at the latest; or pick a guy late who is very projectable,;or pass on a safety altogether and add BPA or O-line/D-line depth because we are somewhat thin on both lines.
