I wouldn't mind Tyrod at all. Throws a good deep ball and does not throw picks. He has accuracy issues and can hold the ball too long. He is a mid level qb but that is a marked improvement for this team!
the problem is that mid level qbs get more than mid level money. TT sounds like an upgrade in a vacuum but if we have to give him 18m per is it really worth it?
Sign me up. It wouldn't cost any draft picks or players via a trade, so why not? He's still young and doesn't turn the ball over much, I think he had a 3 to 1 td to into ratio. Look how horrible Buffalo was without him. Jets will have plenty of cap room after shedding some older players. Why not sign him? They could draft Fournette and the oline in round 2 and completely transform the team in one sweep.
If he gets that $27M from Buff he would probably sign for a lot less elsewhere, I think. $14M sounds about right based on Fitz just getting $12.
I'm definitely interested in Taylor. wonder how much money he'll command tho.....if i sign him, i wouldn't automatically give him the starting role, as the young guys should be competing at this point if they're worth anything.
How many inexperienced QB's can a franchise develop simultaneously? How do you split reps and playing time and expect to develop either? The Jets haven't been able to develop one QB at a time now we think they can develop both Hack and Petty? I don't think so.
well all QB's are overpaid. how much we talking though, 14M, or closer to 20M? if it's the latter, I'd take a cheaper option and 1st round draft selection should be in consideration.
Life as a Jets fan. Hoping that you can sign Tyrod Fucking Taylor in FA and knowing your team will have to pay franchise QB money to get him because they just handed 12mil to a 30-something career backup the year before. Fuck this team.
i'd give him 14 and hand him the keys, make it a short deal,2 years,so we can bail if he under performs and he can get a new deal if he exceeds expectations.
sounds about right. I'm interested enough to do that, but nothing long term, and no premier money. even still, if Petty or Hack miraculously show up this camp, i wouldn't hesitate to make Taylor an expensive backup.
I hear ya on this. If Mac, Bowles and Woody are that stupid, then I don't know what. I think he would have the team's play at a more respectable level, but if they went with older, more expensive FAs and tried to continue the competitive rebuild, then it would be a colossal mistake imo. They need to commit to a total rebuild, and rebuild the team around their young QB. They could do that as easily around Taylor as they could Petty, Hack or a QB they draft.
I would love to have Taylor as a veteran stop gap, but he's going to want to be paid like a franchise QB which he is not.
Question...Why do you think that adding Taylor would potentially lock us into mediocrity? Do you think Woody, Mac and Bowles would then continue the "competitive rebuild" nonsense and bring in more older, expensive FAs, or do you think that Taylor is just not that good? I think if we fixed the OL, added a TE and RB, that our offense would be good, perhaps very good. The team could then continue focus on building the D and STs via the draft. Also, if he's good enough that he becomes our starting QB for the next 3 years, and possibly longer, why wouldn't he be worth $20 million a year? Don't you think that he's good enough that we could get to and win a SB with a very good team around him?
Now I'm not advocating for paying Taylor Brock Osweiler, 18 million per year, money. But Taylor is an established, solid starter with two full years of experience and a good record. Also, who's to say he can't continue to improve? I think he's a guy you can win with. Given the current 2 QBs on the roster, the draft prospects, and what's available in free agency, he needs to be strongly considered. If this team could hit on a QB, they wouldn't need to be looking at Ryan Fitzpatrick's and Tyrod Taylors (though one is clearly above the other). Unfortunately, it's been one miss after another for many, many years...
I would not sign Tyrod. He will get more money than he is worth imo. He's not that good and wasn't asked to do that much ala Sanchez. He's better no doubt, but how much is hard to say. He's a losing qb, the type who throws 200 yards/game and never put them team on his shoulders.
Not really. I think he's good enough to make the position look competent. I'm only intrigued because I want to see a couple years of competent quarterback play before I'm 30. He's really not anything special but he makes himself look like Steve Young in compared to what we've watched for much of the past ten years outside of Fitzpatrick's 2015 performance.
