While I don't think JD has to worry about his job - short of an absolute disaster happening - this year, I do think this move signals that he's fully aware that the team has to show some real progress this year or his seat will begin to get warm.

While I have bought into the "stick with the plan" approach he's followed. I'm pleased to see that he's not just being rigid and obtuse. That said, I think Hill is over the Hill and would've cost too much, even if he probably would've given the team a boost this year - assuming he didn't get hurt. I'm also not a fan of him as a person, but sometimes you have to "hold your nose" and hope for the best. On balance I'm glad JD went for it, but happy he fell short.

IDK, but in my opinion the difference between Cooper and Hill is night and day. Cooper can be great at times, but sometimes he disappears; Hill is pretty much always on. Just my opinion though. I'm glad Douglas didn't get either.

I bet we move up into 1st round with our 30's pick involved to draft a WR

Players get out of bed and play the games for money.

Yet you think the guy who wants to be the highest paid player in the league so much that he is leaving a great situation in KC would not be swayed by a bigger contract.

So now in addition to having a crystal ball to tell you that Zach is going to be good somehow you now have gained the ability to read minds and know exactly what motivates an NFL wide receiver.

We started the free agency period in the basement of the NFL and other teams have done more than us to get better.

Right now we are going to need one hell of a draft to match last year's record.

I really hope that things get better but calling me names isn't what can make that happen.

Hill has a House in FL
    Hill trains in FL
    FL has lower taxes

Hill was “torn” btw NYC and MIA - this tells me that the Jets had a more attractive offer either in terms of money or the team otherwise he wouldn’t have been “torn”

well it wasn't typical JD he did say ahead of time that he'd use any assets he had to build up the team and anyhting is possible. he didn't make a run for any other trade and didn't sig any top tier FAs and focused on value and availability and gave us great flexibility. he knows we need a WR, he's drafting one for sure in the top 4 picks, maybe as high as 10. why not add a guy like hill who opens the offense and fills a big need and still keep 4 and 10 where he could get an edge and maybe jordan davis or a trade back for more picks. the best GMs will use anything they have to build the roster and hill is a top 3 WR. going after him made sense

I'm not so sure. My assumption was that KC liked the Jets offer more, but Hill was in the driver's seat and liked Miami for the reasons you stated. I'd be stunned to learn - and we never will - that Douglas offered him that contract.

Just draft Jameson Williams at 35 instead. If he didn't get hurt and attended the combine, he would've ran a 4.2. He would've been a top 10 pick

the funny thing is, on paper we arne't a bad team at all. were a team if we were in the NFC we'd have a legit shot at a playoff spot. but in the AFC were the 3rd worst team ahead of jax and hou. in the NFC after the top 5-6 teams we are as good as any of them if not better and there are 7 playoff spots per conference

I’m a JD supporter and I actually wanted him to hire a veteran HC, I feel he put his eggs in the wrong basket with the Saleh hiring.

What else is he going to do but work with Saleh, it’s no different than what he did when Gase was his HC, he had to draft according to what Gase requested as players for his scheme.

I’m not criticizing him for going after Hill, but a red flag has been raised when JD is acting contrary to what his philosophy has been and what he preaches.

You’re suggesting Hill was torn btw the team KC liked and the team he liked?

    Talk about company loyalty….

“Ugh 1 is my home and is offering more money but the other is giving the Chiefs a better offer and they deserve to get the most for me.”

And it would take balls to use draft capital to trade back into the first to get him given he probably won't play before mid-season at best.

No, I'm saying Hill wasn't torn at all. The only reason the Jets were considered as finalists is because of the compensation they offered KC.

Why would he put out he was “torn” btw the Jets and Dolphins?

JD did pursue Cooper but the Cowboys unlike the Chiefs were not willing to allow the Jets to work out a contract restructure with Cooper prior to making the deal.

Sure… and JD “misjudged the market” when he didn’t re-sign Anderson.

The little lies we tell to keep people complacent.

If you think I am lying then you have not paid much attention to what beat writers have posted. Here is one tweet from Hughes about the Jets interest in Cooper.
