Cincinnati is the new "draft a big athletic QB like Josh Allen and hope his accuracy miraculously improves".

The NFL is designed for parity but going from 4 wins to the Super Bowl is pretty rare.

I am not for giving up so much cap room and so many draft picks at this stage of our process. We have too many holes to fill. I also think in Hill's case that I do not want questionable character players on a young team.

If we are to become a contender, it will be by finding multiple stars in the draft over the course of a few years.

This is the type of deal you do if you believe that this one player will be the difference maker to make you a serious contender or at least get you into the playoffs.

The Chiefs didn't want to pay him.

The difference between NJ and FLA state taxes is about $3M a year given an income of $30M. Obviously things can be worked around to lower tax rates but the authorities are closing those loopholes pretty consistently these days.

$3M a year is a lot of money. Anybody who thinks the Jets were competing for Hill on a even economic footing is wrong.

I don't think the state income tax would be quite that high. Not to mention athletes have to pay state taxes on road games as well. He only saves on the state tax for about half the salary. Bonuses may be treated differently. It's not just state income taxes though. The cost of housing & property taxes are also drastically different.

Discernible actions my friend, situational awareness, the writing is on the wall.

Didn’t JD attend the combine with hand full of scouts and left CS home?

It’s very telling that a man who speaks of building through the draft, the importance of acquiring players of good character and winning game in the trenches, is now willing to trade premium picks that could be used to build through the draft for a 28 year old skilled WR, with questionable character, that may or may not help Wilson develop.

If you think JD and this CS are going to keep their jobs this year if they win 4 games again, and Wilson flounders you are seeing things through green colored glasses.

Jacksonville has the chance, not a good one, that their franchise QB prospect turns things around. Again, it's not a good chance but there were games last season where you could see Trevor Lawrence maybe making the turnaround. Probably not but he was still throwing at the end of last season instead of hiding in a rookie bubble.

The Jets really don't have that chance. We'll all watch Zach Wilson with mixed degrees of trepidation next season however he has to look like an NFL QB on the field to make that happen and outside of a few scattered plays and an occasional half of decent play he didn't do that at all last season.

I could see the Jets being better with Mike White at QB however there are so many other problems to fix that I doubt that even a competent distributor, which is what White looks like, could lead this team to the playoffs next season.

    No, we couldn't.

If the Fins had offered Hill $20M a year then yeah sure we could have. They offered him QB money to come and catch passes for them.

If the Jets had upped the offer by 10% all it would have meant was that the inevitable injury after that would make us look even clownier than usual.

Why we always fix with the past.

Let's look for the present and the future. Why not trade away this year instead?

You are really down on Wilson, he was not great, but flashed. It’s not like there is no hope. Me personally I think Wilson, will turn it around next year, as long as we put the weapons around him. Quite honestly there is no one offensively that the other team is “scared” of! And that is not on Wilson. We need to bring in difference makers, like Hill for Wilson to develop. But looks like you have already written him off.

That's ignoring the reality of this situation. Hill wanted to go home to FL and play for the Dolphins. He didn't want to play for the Jets but was using the Jets as leverage. It wasn't the first time the Jets were used that way and it won't be the last. No amount of money unless we're talking Deshaun Watson money would have gotten Hill to NY.

We were rejected period, end of story.. Time to move on.

When the Jets turn around it's going to happen suddenly because [I believe] JD is putting the necessary pieces together slowly and steadily. Zach Wilson is the keystone to most of it, but even without him taking the leap I feel like the Jets are extremely close to making a sudden jump into playoff contention/relevance. The accumulation of picks, starting to hit on some, and addressing the trenches for the first time in years all make me hopeful.

I think when the turnaround happens it's going to be very sudden, surprising, and not something that pundits talked about in the lead-up. To me, a guy like Hill is a test run to see just how good what you've done actually is, but it's not truly necessary at this point. I'm really encouraged by Douglas being in the mix for a move like that. For a minute I started to think that he didn't want to ever swim in the deep end, but he was just waiting for the right player at the right time.

I'm pretty optimistic right now. And if Zach is an above average NFL QB, then I think the future will be extremely bright, and extremely soon.

For Hill's income bracket I don't think there is an appreciable difference in property and housing costs between NJ and South FLA. There are differences in the way that houses are appraised and high value areas often have values reappraised when the municipality those taxes support requires more funds. The mill rate stays the same but the appraised value increases and so more revenues are derived from the property owner.

If the check was large enough Hill would have signed it.

Being frugal might have cost us a chance to compete.

Despite having the "third rated off-season" we are at the bottom of the power rankings.

Douglas screwed the pooch. The guy is just clueless. We need a GM with true balls, like Les Grossman. This is how you get a deal done.

We should have thrown in a G-V. Les Grossman style.
