I'm pretty shocked at how "all in" this site was for Hill. And, I'm bummed I wasn't around to argue with you all during it. Hill is a great WR, but part of that, like Devonte Adams, is they played with a top 3 QB. There is a good chance Hill doesn't crack 1000 yards next year with Tua, or with Zach. That's if he stays healthy. Funny things about players like Hill. Once they don't play for a SB contender their game and attitude changes. I see people saying we probably offered 35 and 38. You think that is equal to 29, 50, 121, and a 4th and 6th next year? You think 2 picks is equal to 5 picks, which included a 1st and 2nd? We probably offered 10, 38, and one or two lower rounds. Would you have been happy giving up all of that for a #1 WR, and paying him 30 million? Not only is that not building through the draft - its way into Mac country. Chill out. We have a lot of good WR options in the draft. Which is the way this thing should be built.
Blessing in disguise. On one hand I'm glad JD realizes we need to upgrade at WR, on the other hand this would've been a pretty dumb move for us and it's not a great sign that JD was even willing to do it. This would've been a good move for 2 years with bad consequences thereafter. There's pretty much 0 chance of us competing for a title next year so that would've given us a 1 year window to capitalize on having Hill before his contract and loss of picks due to the trade started to do more harm than good. A rookie WR taken at 4 or 10 will earn $22-$37 million over 4 years, with an average yearly cap hit of about $6 million. Will that rookie WR be as good as Hill? Almost certainly not. But for the price, considering we also keep both 2nd round picks whereas we wouldn't have with Hill? It's probable.
Here is the offer: https://jetsxfactor.com/2022/03/23/ny-jets-tyreek-hill-dolphins-trade-offer/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would just say, just because something is reported doesn’t mean it’s accurate. Most of the reporters will report what the agent says, to maintain a good relationship and get future scoops. If the agent tells Schefter and Jets reporters that the Jets are in, it gets blasted everywhere and puts pressure on the Dolphins. Jets have been used like this many times in the past.
The offer we made is out there and didn't include a 1st, both seconds and a third and we got a 4th back, apparently?
Reports are they offered 35, 38 and 69 for Hill and 103 and the Chiefs accepted. Draft value wise, it was equal to what the Dolphins offered and also equal to the 10th pick. We can only go by whats been reported, and this looked like a very good deal from the Jets perspective if Hill wanted to come here.
Water under the bridge fellas. JD went for it, and Tyreek himself said no. It's crazy how exciting the morning was, without warning. That's the NFL for you. I'm happy JD is aggressive. I would have been happy with Hill here rather than that other place, but I also see the dangers of the deal the other team made, and at this point of the process, there's a damn good chance we are better off having not done it. Certainly safer to maintain the course and BUILD. My hate for that other team remains in tact
When the real contract details come out, I can tell you how legit the rumors were that the Jets were offering an equal contract.
Hill is going to struggle with the 33rd ranked deep ball thrower in the NFL. "Tua looks deep, points to Hill who's running WIDE OPEN downfield....Andddd Tua checks down to Alec Ingold."
The offer to the Chiefs was reasonable. We may not have gotten Hill but JD gets what the CS wants and what ZW needs to be successful. Once again JD impresses. It bodes well for our future. JD will keep taking shots at WRs the CS like until ZW has what he needs.
you say that because you aren't rich. when your making 20+ million a year a couple hundred thousand isn't worth your happiness
To the Chiefs? Doesn’t matter, both offers were accepted. To Tyreek? I don’t think those numbers are out yet. (according to the trade charts, they’re comparable)
I didn't say anything about equal contracts. The Jets made a similar trade offer to the Chiefs in exchange for Hill. No clue what the Jets were willing to offer as a contract.
Throw the value charts out the window. The first thing to look at is the number of players. We basically offered 2 players because we wanted one back, where as the dolphns offered 5 players. In team building, and rebuilding, three more players is a huge difference. If I was looking at those two offers the decision would be easy.
