So you agree you cannot take Hank at his word? Of course I would call Hank if I was the Twins. Thats why other clubs are starting to call him Yammering Hank. The original Hammering Hank, Hank Aaron, had a belly laugh when he heard that today.

lol...where did I say that? I said exactly what I said and only what I said. I am sure the Yankees are out of it. They will offer no more then they already did. In their minds it is over. If the Twins come crawling now would they give them what they originally offered? A resounding MAYBE. Arod came crawling and we all saw what happened there but if you think the Yankees will go after the Twins you are delusional.

Both Phillips and Olney talked tonight about what everybody is saying at the meetings. They can't believe what the Twins are doing. There has been nothing close coming from Boston to match the Yankee offer. They are the laughingstock down there right now. Maybe they have a hair up their ass because they couldn't manipulate the Yankees the way they wanted. That's fine and if they want to intentionally hurt their team for it, let them. They will pay a price though if they do.

Mike and the Dog were even saying this afternoon that Hank Steinbrenner is becoming a folk hero in NY because he won't take any shit from any of these assholes. Players, GMs, it doesn't matter.

someone would have paid him. you cant predict stuff like that. there was a point where people said he had 0% chance of going back to the yanks.

and if the rangers gave him a 10 yr 250 mill deal, im sure the angels mets cubs dodgers or red sox could afford something more

The key is with what you said is "could afford something more". They could but didn't. Arod opted out not because he didn't want to be a Yankee, he opted out because he thought some team was going to pay him more than the Yankees. When Arod realized what a mistake he made he called the Yankees because he knew they'd take him back and it was the only way he could attempt to save face. And the Yankees still gave him more money than what he was making last year.

My belief is that we cannot get stronger on the top of our rotation.. then improve on areas that are needed.

Lets not overlook our weakness at the BULLPEN!!!. Lets get a ACE there, setup guy, middle relief...help out mo. I think its a necessity when you roll out a rotation with young kids

Plus i can wait till next year in the FA to get my ACE cy young starting pitcher

Maybe you can. He did. The yankees certainly didn't go after him.

He was a free agent for about two weeks. It's really ridiculous to try and guess what may have happened or not with a star of that magnitude. Just look at where we are now with Santana. He wouldn't have made a deal until late this month or January so everything is just speculation.

A setup guy is crucial but I don't know who we can get. One of the problems I have with getting Santana would be that Chamberlain would probably go back to the pen. He may anyway.

After last night's blockbuster, neither Boston or NY would necessarily be the favorite even if one of them did get Santana. That's just how big a trade that was for Detroit.

The Twins obviously blew it with the Yankees. They still have only the same two total crap offers from the Red Sox. They tried to sucker the Yankees back in and it didn't work. They may end up now having to take one of those Boston offers and they will become the laughing stock of baseball. Their only other hope is to crawl back to the Yankees and hope they can get the same deal or that Boston adds Buchholz to both of the current deals on the table.

Don - you have such a bias towards Yankee baseball. Some teams don't like Hughes and say he has a questionable future because of his work ethnic and prone to get injured, ie. pitchers don't normally severely pull a muscle warming up. AND Billy Beane will NOT take Melky Cabrera in any trade for Dan Haren because he does not like him as a baseball player.

Hughes pulled a muscle in a game... he twisted his ankle while warming up & either way this is the first I've heard of Hughes supposed poor work ethic.... and where are you getting this Beane Melky thing? Stop it already.... It's not the Yankees fault that the Mets are more concerned with latinos than quality ball players

What teams are those? Hughes is projected by everybody as being a #1 or #2 starting pitcher. It has nothing to do with how I feel. Oh, and btw, Minnesota insisted on him so that isn't one of the teams that don't like him. I would really like to see your list of those that do.

And that game happened to be a no hitter too.

I am still as perplexed about this whole Santana thing as ever. The Yankees could have had him Monday night with the addition ofr either Kennedy or 2 prospects (along with Cabrera and Hughes). They didn't do it and are perfectly willing to let him go to Boston for basically nothing. Either they believe there is something wrong with Santana or they honestly believe Hughes will be better almost immediately. That's the only thing I can come up with.

    I hope they're right.

If the rumors of all the various offers are true, I'd agree that the package with Hughes included makes the Yankee offer heftier. Take our Hughes, add in Kennedy, and Boston's offer is the better package.

In truth, I think one of the understated keys to any Boston package is Masterson, not Lester; although, any reasonable person would certainly value Lester over Kennedy.

I don't like the latest rumors of Ellsbury in an offer, if that makes you all feel any better.

It seems to be the same two offers it has always been. All the rumors are just that. In the end Steinbrenner says that what the Twins were asking for was fair but the Yankees just couldn't do it (for whatever reason).
