but then this morning they sasid that the twins backed off on the kennedy demands...who the fuck knows at this point
Yeah, they did that too. Then they asked for both Jackson and Horne and the Yankees said no to that too. There may have been a slight chance they would have gotten one of them but not both. What Heyman was saying was that the people there are saying the Yankee offer as is (Hughes, Cabrera and a mid-level prospect) is better than anything Boston has offered so far including that the latest with that 5th prospect they threw in this afternoon. He want on to say that Hughes is projected as a number 1 or 2 starter and Cabrera is better then Crisp. That is the feeling of the people mulling in the lobby. That's why nobody can figure out what Minnesota is trying to do.
This would certainly trump Boston. • The Twins and Angels continue to talk about a Johan Santana trade. Many of the same players mentioned in the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes -- Howie Kendrick, Brandan Wood, Nick Adenhart, and possibly Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits -- would be included in a package for Santana.
I don't really understand the mega boner people get when they see Jacoby. Sure, he's fast and exciting and fresh and young and good looking, but....look at his minor league stats. He's not likely to put up the typer of numbers he put up in Boston over the course of an entire year, especially considering that awfully lucky .388 BABIP stat he put up.He will be a very solid, dependable player for years to come.In his prime I think it would be reasonable for him to maybe put up number in the ballpark of .330/390/400 with 10-15 HRS which is damn good, but Jacoby doesn't even compare in value to Buchholz. Look up his minor league stats, they are absolutely insane. A top 10 leadoff hitter is nowhere near as valuable as a premier starting pitcher (and that applies when discussing Santana and potentially Clay).
That's exactly why nobody understands Minnesota's motivation when Hughes is projected as a number 1 or number 2.
Olney is saying the Angels could be in this for real and neither the Yankees or Red Sox will care one little bit (obviously).
Fine...so you want us to feel miserable and hopeless? Maybe i dont wanna feel that way anymore...which is why I may give up completely. You guys win. You ALWAYS win.
You have to look at it differently. No matter how they may do in sports in the short term, in the long term they most likely have to live their entire lives in or around Boston speaking like they are choking on a clam.
I will say, As good as Santana is, I was really looking forward to seeing Hughes and Kennedy grow into great pitchers.. I just wish Santana didnt have to go to Boston. The fortune that city has had sports wise..has just gone too far.
Nope it was a lie. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3140986&name=winter_meetings http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2007/12/angels_not_in_o.html
WFAN reporting it's a done deal with Cabrera and Willis going to Detroit. What a freakin lineup they have now. They should easily score 1000 runs next year. Detroit sending 6 prospects in return. Great deal.
According to Sean McAdam - a GREAT baseball writer - the latest Sox offer is a three-player deal with the Sox giving John Lester, Justin Masterson, and Ryan Kalish. Kalish is like a young, immature Johnny Damon (minus the ego, big mouth and noodle-arm). McAdam's comments was something like, "If that's the deal that the Twins are looking for, and I think it is, then the Red Sox shoud RUN, not walk, to the Twins suite and finish the deal. I'd be shocked if this were the deal, but Sean McAdam is one of the more conservative writers out there, and I can't imagine he'd say something like that unless it were well sourced. I just thought Lowrie was MILES ahead of Kalish. But, I guess we'll see. I STILL think the Angels (or some other team) are lying, and I think there is another team waiting in the wings. But, this is why hot stove is fun.
Like I was saying yesterday, if the Twins accept a putrid deal like that there will be hell for them to pay. If even I know what the other GMs are saying then I'm sure their local papers do too. The funny thing is there was suppose to have been a better deal on the table this afternoon as well as last night. I doubt it's coming down.
But the Yankees and Hank pulled out right? The price goes down. Or are Hughes and Melky still on the table, meaning Hank is just a blowhard?
Whether the Yankees are out or not, doesn't even matter. The Twins don't think they are out and that's all that's important. Are you really so naive that you think they would accept any deal without calling the Yankees first?
