That sounds awfully similar to what I told you guys a few weeks ago. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=695277&postcount=296 Plus I had also mentioned that I thought the trade would be for Kennedy not Chamberlain. EDIT - Also, I think if the Yankees do put Chamberlain in with the trade it will be for only one pitcher. if not, then it will be Kennedy AND Hughes (just my opinion though)
Rodriguez, Santana, Cano, Posada, Cabrera, Abreau, Rivera, Betemit, Sanchez, (Edgar)Rodriguez -I love that the Yankees have been under the radar, while the Mets criticized, with their abundance of Hispanic players. Of course there is nothing wrong with it - just kind of funny and curious.
The difference is other than Betemit you're talking about all stars and top level players.... not Julio Franco, Mota & Torrealba
last rumors were that it was Hughes, Cabrera and Horne/Jackson for Johan. The New York Daily News believes the Yankees will offer Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and another prospect to the Twins for Johan Santana. If they're willing to part with both Hughes and Cabrera, they'd have to be considered the heavy favorites to land Santana. The Daily News believes the third player in the deal could be Austin Jackson or Alan Horne. It's been reported that the Twins are quite interested in Jackson. I really would hate to part with Hughes but I think I would have to make this deal as long as he agrees to an extension.
John Heyman says the Twins want Hughes, Chamberlain or Kennedy, plus Melky, plus a prospect. I assume they'd want more if it's Kennedy, because Kennedy is not worth what Joba or Hughes is. He also said the Red Sox are talking with the Twins, and the Twins want one of the young arms (Buchholz or Lester) plus Ellsbury.
There is a huge difference between Chamberlain and Kennedy. If we could get him for Kennedy and Cabrerra it would be a great deal. Oh, I think I already said that once today.
They didn't change the makeup of the team when a new GM was hired. Why don't you see the difference? And the GM for the last 15 years is not hispanic to begin with. That's all why you don't hear a peep about the Yankees.
Even that's not a terrible deal but I would prefer Kennedy. There would be no deal at all without an extension. What team in their right mind would give up a package of top talent for a 1 year rental?
Yeah seriously. And if Minny is asking for Chamberlain, Kennedy, AND another player, they can kiss my ass. Cashman/Steinbrenner had better introduce the Twins to their friend Tone. I'm sorry, Santana is arguably the best pitcher in the majors over the past few years, but his value is being FAR overblown at this point. He wasn't a Cy Young candidate this year. He did not lead the league in Ks. He was thirteenth in the league in ERA (3.33). And he only had 15 wins. (Granted wins aren't a good measure of a pitcher, but counting in the rest, tells a story.) Now I'm not saying he's not a great pitcher, and that I wouldn't want him, but come on. Cabrera, Kennedy, and a top-tier prospect is more than fair. Any more than that, and we're getting robbed. And I still say Hughes and Chamberlain are off limits. Otherwise, our rotation is only marginally better with Santana than without. Think about it, it's either: Santana Wang Moose Chamberlain/Hughes (whoever is still here) ??? (no Kennedy left) OR Wang Moose Chamberlain Hughes Kennedy This would be another one of those Yankees bet the farm moves. If it goes down like this, I'm taking back my prediction that the Yankees win the World Series in 2008.
A good indicator on how a pitcher will pitch in NY has always been how they pitched against us...ie. Jimmy Key, David Well, David Cone all had success against us.... We've pretty much handled Santana when we've faced him, including the playoffs... to bring him in through FA is fine but to give up our everyday CF, and 2 young pitchers who've already shown success for some one who's going to play every 5 games just doesn't make sense to me
uhh..they are asking for ONE of the three..Chamberlain, Hughes OR Kennedy plus Cabrerra and an A level player. Where did you see they wanted multiple pitchers?
Santana has a 1.17 lifetime ERA at Yankee stadium. Let Damon or Matsui play center for a year or sign Jones to a 2 year deal.
what's his record & total ERA? I could be wrong, but I can't remember him being that dominant over us
In '04 he had a .75 ERA against us in 2 starts and in 3 of his 4 postseason starts against us he has given up 0 runs twice(though one of them was a 4 inning start) and 1 run the other time.
Whatever they have to pay him you can't forget Giambi's 24 million comes off the books after next year. Along with Pavano's 10 million and there are others too.
