    Nope, not really.

It's the agony we like. What fun is it if people jump on board or stop watching?

There is no glory for the lonely.

Not exactly. What Phillips said was that if he was the Red Sox, he would not mind giving up BOTH Ellsbury and Lester SINCE getting Santana sets Boston up to be a dynasty. If you want the exact quote, go to the Johan Santana page on ESPN.com.

Ok, I only heard the very end when he mentioned Buccholz and the Twins in the same sentence.

    You're absolutely right.

I don't know how old Kurt is, so I don't know if he's had the opportunity to truly enjoy where the entire Yankees/Red Sox rivalry came from.

For decades we basically crapped down the throats of Bostonians. Names like Dent and Boone were nightmarish for Sox fans.

80+ years of laughing is not balanced by a couple titles in a handful of years.

It's just your time right now.

Laugh now, but someday, we shall overcome!

I'm surprised there isn't more talk surrounding the intrigue in all of this. Despite what some people may think, George is not senile and still the Boss. They would never be letting Santana go to the Red Sox without his approval. So with that being said why are they doing it? What do they have planned? What do they think they know that nobody else knows? Since when would they let a couple of low level minor leaguers hold up a deal like this?

There are a lot more questions than answers in this.

I guess with Haren apparently gone it could still twist one more time later today.

I know how you feel....I use to take it personal, but not anymore. Actually I really believe its rigged, especially how a lot of BIG games have been decided over the past few years (football, basketball). Money rules everything.

what are you suggesting it should tell me? If the yankees didnt up their offer then they must be doing the right thing? whatever the Yankees think is right? thats just moronic Don. You truly are unable to be objective. Im not sayin in the long run the yankees wont be better off. maybe they will, mybe they wont. I personally wanted Santana...but for you to say something so stupid like" uhhh the yankees didnt make the deal so what does that tell you" is just retarded

  8. I grew up a Pirates fan(the yanks were always my second team) so early on I agonized over the chico linde play as well as a desperate reds team. When I got older I lost interest in the pirates due to them never being on TV and obviously being basically a minor league team. At this same time frame...Sox fans became unbearable...and around 2000 I became a full fledged Yanks fan.

Essentially ive experienced 1 yankees WS...and I was still very new to being a fan.

Frankly it's not just the sox...It's the Pats, sox AND celts all at the same time. And it's not ending anytime soon

How did you get any of that out of what I said?..nm, I explained it afterwards anyway. How can it be retarded, do you think the Yankees couldn't have made that deal if they wanted? Now that is retarded.

Here we go. A third team has arisen.

    • The Yankees and Twins haven't talked at all so far Tuesday about Johan Santana, amid increasing indications Santana is going to be dealt to Boston. The Twins are also talking to the Angels, however. If the Angels are out of the Cabrera talks they have plenty to get Santana.

Heres the latest from the espn.com blog, just reiterating Don's post with the source.

    3:28 p.m., from Peter Gammons
    • The Twins and Red Sox are getting closer to finalizing a Johan Santana deal. Boston has sweetened its offer by adding a fifth player to the the offer -- outfield prospect Ryan Kalish, a ninth-round draft pick in the 2006 out of Red Bank Catholic High School (Shrewsbury, N.J.).

Oh, goodness. Well, it looks like it might be Johann, Beckett, Bucsholz Dice-K, Schilling, and Wakefield as a spot starter. Not too shabby. But if the deal wasn't right for the Yanks, then I can't blame them. I personally want to hold onto the young prospects. Hopefully they won't overpay for Haren.

The Yankees have gotten great production out of the young pitchers in their system when they needed it...they have some top flight talent there...

I think they just thought the price was too high. I don't think they want to trade 2 or 3 potential STARS for 1 pitcher...not matter how good he is.

I also think that they expect to need some contributions from their farm this coming year...and if they get Santana, it could cost them more games than it would game them in the form of a lack of talent when starters get hurt...

    ...just a thought.

Yeah, this is probably right on target.

So how do you feel at this point, with the Sox seemingly willing to keep giving more players until the Twins finally say okay?

Is Johan really worth 5 players? Even if 2 or 3 of them are lower-level talent?

Like I've been saying all along, I don't want the Yankees or the Sox to get fleeced in this thing. It's bad for both of us.

looks like Toronot is going after Bedard.

    • The Blue Jays continue to talk with the Orioles about left-hander Erik Bedard. Toronto probably has the young pitching to anchor a deal.

    I am in favor of it under 2 conditions;

    1. Ellsbury is off limits

    2. I do not trade Lester and Buccholz both

It seems they have put Ellsbury on the table. I hate that. But, one of the offers is for Lester and Coco Crisp, with some assorted prospects not including Buccholz. I am 100% on board for this deal.

Heyman is saying pretty much everybody at the meetings believes the Yankee offer is by far the best offer and can't understand what Miunnesota is thinking unless they are still trying to juice up the Yankees to offer more. He's on FAN now.

Exactly how I feel. As of now, the deal that is seemingly close is Lester, Crisp, Lowrie, Masterson, and Kalish. Lowrie is ready but blocked, and the other two ML level players (Lester and Crisp) wouldn't hurt to go since Lester would be upgraded to Santana, and Crisp is already going to lose his job to Ellsbury. The other two are expendable MiL players at this point and have more value to the Twins than the Sox.
