Looking through the Don-oculars again, I see.

The more likely reason, of course, is that the Yankees didn't meet the Twins price - a price which, again - of course, all of Yankeeland thinks was an insult to reject.

Nevertheless, I think this stays in play for a few more days, and I do think a third team will enter the fray. The Twins are having WAY too much fun with this, and there are too many cocktail parties at the Winter meetings. I also think that signing Santana will be more difficult for the Red Sox. It's fair to assume that the Yankees would pay just about any price in the universe. The Red Sox, have been playing salary games, these days. If they aren't able to sign him in this round, he is, beyond a doubt, a Yankee, Met, or Angel next Fall.

Haha..only a Mets fan could see it that way..or maybe a Sox fan and I really do hope a third team gets involved, even the Mets. That would be the ideal solution for both the Yankees and the Sox. If not, one of them will end up paying 150 million dollars for a pitcher who could even be on the other side of his best years.

I just turned on ESPN a second ago. Anybody else watching? It sounded like Phillips said the Twins are now demanding Buchholz as well as Lester or Ellsbury from the Soz. Is that right?

Also, the Cabrera - Angels deal has fallen apart (again). <<That I know I heard.

Report: Sox prep new offer for Santana
The Red Sox are reportedly preparing to revamp their proposal for Twins ace Johan Santana and a deal could be completed by end of day on Tuesday. From SI.com's John Heyman on Tuesday afternoon: "The Red Sox are expected to enhance their offer by the early afternoon Tuesday. After the Twins' talks with the Yankees hit a stalemate over prospects just as the Yankees' self-imposed deadline hit late Monday, Minnesota put in a midnight call to Boston and requested that the Red Sox make their 'best'' offer that included young left-hander Jon Lester." Heyman also writes that the Twins are expected to decide by the end of Tuesday whether Santana will go to Boston or possibly the Yankees. The Red Sox and Twins exchanged medical information on pitchers Santana and Sox lefty Jon Lester early this morning, an indication that the clubs may be closing in on a deal, according to Boston Globe reporters Gordon Edes and Amalie Benjamin. It's unclear whether Jacoby Ellsbury was included in their offer, but according to Edes, "There were indications that the Twins would be getting center fielder Coco Crisp, pitcher Justin Masterson and infielder Jed Lowrie in addition to Lester. But that was not confirmed. Repeat, That has not yet been confirmed." The Herald's Michael Silverman reported on Tuesday that after reviewing Lester's medical information, the Twins were satisfied that there were no red flags there that would block a deal and Theo Epstein was expected to resume discussions with the Twins before noon on Tuesday. Early Tuesday morning, ESPN.com reported that "If the Twins were satisfied with Lester's medicals, it's believed they would accept a swap of him, Coco Crisp, shortstop prospect Jed Lowrie and either highly regarded pitching prospect Justin Masterson or another player. Or if the Twins reversed field and decided they wanted center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury instead, it's believed that would be a 3-for-1 trade -- with only Ellsbury, Masterson and Lowrie going to Minnesota." But is there still hope for the Yankees to get back in it? Minnesota came off its demand that the Yankees include pitcher Ian Kennedy along with pitcher Phil Hughes and center fielder Melky Cabrera, but the Twins still were asking for more than the Yankees were willing to offer. "It's still something that we can't do," Steinbrenner said Tuesday morning. "As far as I'm concerned, it's probably off." Steinbrenner, a senior vice president and son of owner George Steinbrenner, planned to speak with general manager Brian Cashman later Tuesday to assess the team's stance. Any team that strikes a deal for Santana will request a 72-hour window to discuss a contract extension, with Santana believed to be looking for at least $25 million a year. "If the Red Sox get Santana," one NL executive told ESPN's Jason Stark, "they might be the best team in the history of the frigging universe."

I really do hope the Yankees stay out of this now. Let the Red Sox bid against themselves. The Yankees have done that too many times in the past.

Obviously the Yankees don't give a shit if he does or they would have upped their offer to what the Twins wanted. You should really give that some deep thought. I'm sure they could have gotten him with just Horne (a projected back of the rotation starter some day). What does that tell you?

they have well managed teams and good owners. Kraft and Henry are both excellent Owners who put up money to get the right people running their franchise. Ie Bellichek and Epstein

  16. Bottom line is..if this deal goes through...I'm done w/ sports...I would even seriously consider stepping down from MOD and TGG...I cant take it anymore...It's killing me..

Kurt, come down off the ledge and put down the knife...

Dude, relax. It's not that big of a deal. Yes, it improves the Sox, but the Yankees are doing their own thing. And what happens if 6 months from now we find out that '07 wasn't just a fluke?

The Boston area is getting everything this year. Shit happens. Yeah, it sucks for you to have to deal with it, but it's not like running away from sports is going to make your neighbors any less Massholish.

Looks like Haren is going to Arizona according to FAN. We will get a chance to find out just how good our rookies are next year. It was reported earlier that both Cabrera and Willis may be headed to Detroit who was already a powerhouse last year. That's why I said earlier that there are no givens for the WC in the AL next year.

  20. It's one less thing they can hassle me about.

I am so passionate about sports it's not even funny. It kills me to see people who dont know even half as much about general sports knowledge and dont care evenm a quarter as much..be rewarded and come to me talking trash..and there's nothing i can retaliate w/.

The agony has become so overbearing...and w/ this deal looming and the Pats top 5 pick looming..it maybe easier just to give up sports completely.

That's what Boston fans want anyway. For us all to either join them or stop watching. Why fight it anymore?
