I'm all in favor of that too.

I still would, yes. How much of that Beckett era was with Florida? Before they got to know him?

Nobody would cry here if he went to the national league.

No, we're talking about a good leftie against a good rightie.

Two first round draft picks. Yes, if they don't trade him before the season starts they will get nothing but that.

I actually dont want Santana for reasons Alio stated. I just dont think 1 pitcher puts us over the hump. Id rather develop our young guys who we worked hard to bring in (Why get rid of them) and then we can maybe get a 1-2-3 punch similar to the one that carried the Braves in the 90s. (Obviously they have a long way to go if they wanna be like that). Hughes can become very good and do we really want to put that much money into Santana? I say we groom the prospects and maybe even have a few down years (which is about 85-96 wins for us) and then get ready for some big time teams in a few years.

I hope they do keep him. He will then be a free agent at the end of the season.

    From Rosenthal:

"The Twins, expected to resume discussions with the Yankees and Red Sox about left-hander Johan Santana on Monday, are considering filing tampering charges against the Yankees because of Hank Steinbrenner's public comments about the pitcher, according to a major-league source. Meanwhile, the Twins also are discussing trades involving closer Joe Nathan, with the Astros being one possible suitor."

Hope they do actually. No different then LA or SF talking about Cabrera.

    Okay Minny, go right ahead.

This sounds an awful lot like a team that's really pissed off because the two biggest kids on the block decided that rather than play with the midget's customized rules, they went home with the ball.

It should be interesting next November when us and the Sox are trying to outbid each other, and the Twins walk away empty handed.

No, we're talking about an old pretty good lefty against a top 3 overall pitcher in the game who is just entering his prime.

Old at 35? This isn't Clemens we are talking about. He could easily pitch another 5 or 6 years if he wanted to.

Um, Clemens pitched effectively into his 40's. Pettitte has already pondered retirement for the last two years and has a history of elbow problems. You're absolutely delusional if you think Pettitte is even in Beckett's class right now, let alone better.

He had a bad elbow for one year. He has only pondered retirement because he has a sick child. Beckett had shoulder problems too. Is he contemplating retirement? And when did Beckett all of a sudden become one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball? His lifetime era is 3.74 to Pettitte's 3.83. Are you basing all of this on one post season? As recently as 2006 he was 16-11 with a 5.01 ERA. Maybe if he can keep it up for a few more years he will be. Hell, even Wang has a 3.74 lifetime ERA with more wins then Beckett over the last two years and nobody considers him anywhere near the top 3.

Oh, and I never said I though Pettitte was better then Beckett at this point. I said I would rather have him pitching for me in a post season game, especially if it was at Yankee stadium.

ESPN's blog is reporting that it looks more likely Baltimore will trade Bedard and suitors are lining up.

This year he became one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball. Only delusional cheerleaders would think otherwise.

Beckett is 27 years old. He is just now entering his prime. He will likely win 100 games over the next 6 years.

If Pettitte didn't spend a year in the National League, his career Era would be about 4.

The Twins are angry at Hank Steinbrenner for saying the Yankees like Johan Santana. Santana is Twins' property and they say that is a form of tampering. Maybe they will file a grievance and ask for Ian Kennedy.:breakdance: The fact that they are angry was reported by Jon Heymann who is covering the baseball meetings for WFAN. In the next breath, he also said they were laughing at Steinbrenner's ultimatum that the Yankees wanted an answer on Santana by today. This was all on the Mike and the Mad Dog show about 4:40PM.

Hopefully the Mets get him (or Haren)...But I don't understand why the Yanks and Sox aren't leaking that they're very interested in Bedard or Haren, and play the Twins the way they're being played. Would that not work?
