Sanchez has learned to anticipate protection breakdowns and is doing a fantastic job of avoiding the rush. Watching him last week was pretty exciting. He's becoming similar to Big Ben in that he's hard to get ahold of once you've broken into the backfield.
And if he can make your blitz miss, Edwards and Holmes will get open, plus LT out of the back field makes it a pretty dynamic pass attack.
Sanchez now presents another problem to opposing DC's, because now you have to consider the odds of Sanchez avoing defenders even after they've broken free in the backfield. Now that you've committed so much to the blitz you have have to worry about Sanchez avoiding your passrushers anyway, and if he does you are now very vulnerable to the 1-2 knockout punch of Holmes and Edwards. It almost makes you not want to blitz him, even if you feel you have an excellent chance of overpowering the Jets O-line.
Exactly. So this is becoming another weapon the Jets have on offense, the mobility and passrush avoidance ability of the Jets QB. This a problem defenses face with Pittsburgh. Even though Big Ben is "big" he's also very hard to get ahold of once you get into the backfield.
I'm with Willis on this one. Sanchez has been playing VERY well, but put Orton under center with a solid run game, an excellent checkdown option in LT, a pass-catching TE, Santonio freaking Holmes, and a deep threat in Braylon Edwards...yikes. Denver has NO running game...ZERO. Everyone in the stadium knows they aren't running the ball, yet Orton is putting up these numbers. You could argue he passes a lot because they're always behind, but when you throw 50+ times week in and week out shit QBs are going to make mistakes. Orton has not made many mistakes. Oh btw, his Oline blows and they have a swiss cheese defense. AND...he lost Brandon Marshall! Denver has a solid WR corps, but no real #1. Brandon Lloyd is more of a number 2 that is getting a lot of looks, Royal is regressed since his rookie year, Jabar Gaffney is a decent wideout but nothing spectacular...they have no pass-catching TE.
Mark Sanchez wins in Vermont in OT and Keeps his ratio the way it is and throws over 3500 yards he is the mvp
We could all see this begining in the playoffs last season. He played the best games of his season in January and maybe his best half of football in that 1st half against the Colts. You could see signs of it earlier in the season in his drive against Miami on MNF which would have won the game had the D not been gassed. He also had one against Miami in the game at the Meadowlands but that game was on the ST.
He's been raving about Sanchez since he was drafted. I'm sure there was some criticism, but he's been Sanchez's biggest supporter on any of the networks for a while now.
there are only two guys on that list that has not won a SB yet. Hopefully, this is the year that one of them gets the win. Of course I would be overjoyed if that turns out to be Mark Sanchez even though I was not convinced he could do it, and I remain cautiously skittish!! If Sanchez doesn't get it done this year, I wouldn't mind seeing Rivers holding the trophy as I did believe then (on draft day) and still do believe that he is a much better QB than Eli Manning whom he was traded for.... Though I will be eternally grateful to Eli for stopping the Patriots run to a perfect season.
Yeah, the signs were there pretty early on. It's like Rex was saying the other day, nothing is ever too big for him. He is playing under the microscope of the NY media and it isn't too big for him. He plays against Peyton Manning in the AFCCG and it isn't too big for him. He is down by 4 with 50 seconds left and it isn't it too big for him. I fucking love having a QB that I believe in.
Sanchez impresses me more and more, but no love for Flacco? Heh. I would think he deserves at least a mention.
