I can recall in the late 70's when the Jets played NFC teams at home and therefore had a CBS telecast in conjunction with a Giants game I would be out of luck. Turn on the radio..... I wanna say they would show the Jets telecast on tape later that night after the news but I was a small kid I wouldn't of been up to watch it.
truth....I remember going up to SUNY to party during college back in the 80's.....well I took my daughter there for a school tour last fall and much of the area looked the same. yeah the school has been modernized and the immediate surrounding area built in but damn its still looks run down in many areas.
Binghamton has tons of run down areas. The city has been fixing up the houses on the roads into town to improve the image. Hasn't done much. SUNY moving a campus and some dorms to downtown has revitalized that area. Tons of great restaurants now in what used to be burned out buildings, etc.

yeah, not sure a holder has that much affect/effect anyway. if there were several field goals with botched holds prior to his arrival, then yeah, but I don't believe there was. As is, its just putting 2 stats together, or as you more eloquently say "correlation"
However, there was a report earlier in camp that Catanzaro was making kicks when Edwards held but missing when the camp body punter did. So perhaps not entirely without some basis here.
Uhm, the hold/holder is the second most important part of a field goal besides the kicker himself. If the hold sucks then the kick is most likely going to miss.
I've always taken his tweets about Lach as part tongue-in-cheek, but this is something that the average fan doesn't look at. Special teams is so much more than just a kick returner or an all-pro kicker. For example Andre Roberts wasn't the reason our return game was one of the best in the league, he just knew where to take the kick based on the blocks. If a kicker has a bad hold, odds are the kick is going to be bad.
I believe the snap is the 2nd more important part, it needs to get to the holder first. But you also would need to show how the previous holder sucked. I don't believe there is much difference between one professional holder's hold and another's. that sounds funny to read
I didn't mention the snap because that was a given so you're right there. Believe it or not, but each kicker likes the hold to be different based on where they're kicking from (left hash, center, right hash), is it cold, is it hot, is the field turf or grass. These special team people are friggin weird man
I know this is not on topic but I had to reply: I may be wrong, but I recall retreating to my room MANY times to listen to Marty Glickman and Dave Herman on the radio because the only football on TV was the Giants. So, that means both were playing at 1pm, and the Jets were home (blacked out). The Jets took their beating, and I took my lumps. The emergence of the brief Sack Exchange era was huge for me.
I disagree. Yes, there are other factors to consider such as where the kicker kicked before he came to the Jets, what the weather conditions were like, who his holder was, etc., but the fact that these kickers had the best accuracy stats of their careers has at least something to do with the holder and center/long-snapper. The STs Coordinator may or may not have much effect on a kicker's accuracy, but poor snaps from center, or lousy holds by the holder can definitely affect a kicker's accuracy. I believe it is also more than just the technique or physical actions as well. I think it is probably important for the kicker to have confidence in his holder and center and to feel comfortable with them. The fact that the accuracy of every one of the kickers listed improved, sometimes markedly with Edwards, and declined after Edwards was no longer their holder certainly suggests that Edwards has some positive affect there. It's a small sample set, and would help if it included the kicker's accuracy on points after before they came to the Jets, and included how Myers does this year with his new team. Another thing that suggests that Edwards has a positive impact is that when Catanzaro missed on 3 straight kicks the other day in TC, his holder was NOT Edwards but the ex-Dolphin punter who is in camp. The next period that day, Edwards held and Catanzaro made both of his kicks? Coincidence? Possibly, but I doubt it.
Yes the Jets didn't begin their sellout streak until the last game of the 1978 season. So up until then what you described was probably a regular occurance when the Jets played at Shea.
