If we win only 2 games again this year it won’t be because we lack talent. I think the talent level has improved.
Wait a minute!!! You mean there's more things affecting OL play than just the OL? That can't be right.
I don't believe the talent on the roster last year was a 2-14 team. I get you are what your record says you are and all that bullshit but Adam Gase and that CS was just something else.
One thing to consider is how young this team is not just the talent. We might start 11 players who are 1st or 2nd year players. 11 players who just had their 1st NFL off-season. Add in new coaches, new offensive and defensive systems and a rookie QB and I would expect this team to win a lot less than it's talent level. Offense (4): Rookies: Wilson, AVT, Moore 2nd Year: Becton Defense (5): Rookies: Sherwood, Nasirildeen 2nd Year: Huff, Hall Guidry Kicker: Rookie Ammendola Punter: 2nd year Mann
For the record, if the notion was "the Jets were clearly the better team" I'd be taking it just as seriously: not at all. Much like Saleh and Wilson said, practice is for teams to try thigns and learn things. You're not executing at the highest level and sometimes that's by design. 3rd and 4 from the 8 yard line in practice and in a game are two very different things.
32 teams. if you ranked the league based on talent alone, the Jets would be something like 25-29th. Eagles are probably in the mid-to-high teens. No surprise to me they looked better in a scrimmage
Thanks! I love Coach Saleh. If he can't build a winner here, no one can. He is amazing. His energy, passion, positiveness, his always coaching, always encouraging, and always praising manner is awesome. I don't know about others, but just hearing and seeing him at work is helping the years of frustration and disappointment melt away.
IMO it also won't be because of the coaching. I think the coaching has improved as much or perhaps more than the talent. If we only win 2 games, then we're going to be suffering a lot more injuries.
If this doesn't work with Douglas, Saleh, and Wilson I might just mail in it. My gut is telling me the Jets got it right.
We were going to have a pass rush but now that's done. I love 44 and 45 but when rating rosters, they count low due to no experience. Same with our db's outside of Maye--we think there's potential but an objective rating on accomplishment is low. We have a new rookie K--got to give low rating although he looks good. We have a rookie QB, rookie RB and other RB's who have an average record at best OL is neutral right now--we've sustained significant losses to our depth already.. Our TE's--dude... I think special teams is a + for us in terms of coverage and KR blocking. All told , objectively rated at this time, I expect You'll find we have one of the weakest rosters.
The eagles were 4-11-1 last year, ranked 28th. How did they get to the mid to high teens? I like Devonta Smith as much as the next guy but I'd probably rank them about 25.
Baring a serious injury to Zach, I don't see us only winning two games. Even then, I think it will be more than that. But if we somehow do end up with only two wins with Zach healthy, there will be plenty of blame to go around, including coaching as well.
Talent wise I do not think the Jets are bad. They are close to average. The problem is they are young and at this point they do not have very many impact players, star players or players at impact positions. Looking at the offense. Every starter is solid and potentially average to above average with the exception of GVR and TE. The issues are new scheme, OL gelling, OL injuries and new QB. But by the end of the year the offense could be good to average. While the DL is strong with above average players at 3 positions it lacks an edge rusher. The Lawson injury hurts the defense in so many ways. Both safeties could be above average as could Hall who has had a great off season. The talent on this team is potentially very good but it is young and lacks a pass rusher. By the end of the year we could have an average to above average roster. I just hope the OL gels and stays healthy and the same for Wilson. I don't expect a winning record but I expect the team to get better as the season goes on. This year is about getting the 11 1st and 2nd year starters reps. If things go well this year and we stay healthy we could be ready to contend next year. As a lifelong Jet fan that is a lot to ask but all the pieces are there.
