Im just as excited for the playcalling…just seems like a competent offense…hey Wilson gonna have some duds but he definitely gonna put some work out there. He just LOOKS the part.
back when 95% Jets fans were cheering a loss to teh Raiders... i was investigating the QB situ cos i knew we wouldnt go 0-16... my question was whats beyond Trev and Fields , i learned about ZW and foillowed him the trest of the year and was satisfied that he'd be a decent selection. so far he looks like it. so thats fun.
Can’t express enough we have COMPETENT playcalling. Crowder lined up in the backfield after going in motion, give the defense something to think about. Wilson gives it to the RB, but Crowder motions out the opposite side of the play. Awesome. The big play to Davis was a breakdown but I believe the progression was Smith on a deep post. He had a step, but the safety was nearby. He instead saw Davis settle into a HUGE hole by the sidelines for a big gain. the 2nd Kroft TD was a slick misdirection. The play goes right what it seems initially as when the ball is hiked, the WR is almost about to take the handoff like it’s a WR option play going to the right. It was like a double playaction as the RB took the fake handoff up the middle. What it was all along was a naked bootleg in which Kroft snuck BEHIND the offensive line running a (I’ll call it a flat route) to the side of the naked boot. Kroft did the leg work to get into the endzone but the playcalling was so different. impressive.
https://nypost.com/2021/08/22/jets-defense-gets-little-pressure-on-packers-qbs/?utm_source=url_sitebuttons&utm_medium=site buttons&utm_campaign=site buttons Noah Dawkins got the start over Hamsah at WLB yesterday, which means that spot is an even bigger question mark than we thought. I honestly didn't notice and since WLB is the key player for run support and we got run over the whole first half, I'm going to guess he didn't do so well, but I have to look at it again because I wasn't giving the game my full attention.
Noah Dawkins? I hadn't even seen/heard his name before. When did he become a Jet? I just checked both the ESPN and Ourlads Depth Charts, and they have Dawkins as Mosley's backup. Interesting. Thanks for the info!
I mentioned this in the other thread. It's night and day from the Gase and Bowles Eras. The are finally running an offensive fit for the modern NFL. And this is just the vanilla version for pre season.
Can we get a scoreboard for that, I'd like to see who has been banned and how many times. Don't worry, I already know DWC and his other aliases have been banned 346 times.
Good to see Wilson and Davis getting a good connection going, hopefully the coaching staff can figure out a way to get the TEs more involved also. They did a little bit this game compared to the Giants game but expecting Kroft to become more than he has shown thus far in his career is a stretch. Hoping Griffin's hammy doesn't keep him out too long, have a feeling he is the best hope for a semi competent TE unless they pick someone else up.
I think Kroft can be what we got out of Griffen in his first season, he also hadn't shown the NFL that much until then, small flashes as a second TE for the Texans but yes, we certainly need a true #1 TE drafted next season.
On Kroft's second TD the defense looked like the keystone cops. He outran both a DB and a LB on the route, one tackler takes a terrible angle and the other whiffed by about 3 yards,. It made Kroft look like George Kittle. My main concern is that Packers defense looked really bad. There were two completions to Davis where nobody even covered him - and he's the friggen #1. Their pass rush was almost non existent and their LBs frequently looked confused. That was the type of preseason game that can generate false expectations.
I wouldn't say that. All it showed was that Zach Wilson is capable of making good reads and nice throws in the NFL. I don't think anyone thinks Kroft is a #1 TE or anything close to Kittle after yesterday. Maybe he can win the starting job, but that would be due to Herndon not stepping up and Griffin being injured. The Packers might have been back-ups, but a rookie QB picked them apart. Made all the right reads. That is what matters. He did it without AVT, Moses, and Elijah Moore too.
Meanwhile Saleh said after the game yesterday they were gonna roll with who they have on the roster to replace Lawson. Someone is lying. Go hard for Chandler Jones and have a dominant duo next year? Or play it safe and go for a guy like Fowler who played for Ulbrich and will be a FA when Lawson is (hopefully) back?
Agree 100%! But what is also refreshing is having a QB who can make quick, correct , decisions and deliver the ball accurately. How often in the past three years did we see Darnold miss wide open receivers? I kept hoping he'd improve, but I actually think he got worse. The offense is literally headed 180 degrees from the direction it was going for the past 20+ years.
Guessing we are just inquiring on names, so the media will think we are going to do it only because we lost Lawson. I could see us make a signing taking a flyer on someone
This. Playing QB in the modern NFL is hugely mental. Making the correct reads and decisions and then delivering accurate passes is paramount above all else. You don't need to be consistently firing off 40 yard lasers downfield (though Wilson is good at that too). Consistently completing passes and moving the ball is key. It's so nice to see a QB that takes what the defense gives him instead of always trying to hit a home run like Darnold did. I can't wait to see what our offense looks like with AVT and Moore added into the mix. Moore might legitimately be our best receiver if training camp is any indication. He also plays in a manner that's perfect for our offense - he's super quick and can make a lot happen after the catch.
