I think agents are trying to make it a qb thing. I’m guessing teams will hold strong as long as they can. I don’t care either way, I’m just not going to lol Jets over it when 29 other teams have the same policy
I am willing to kick in my money from the 2019 Fire Gase billboard if someone starts a Gofundme to sign Zach. All kidding aside I hope neither JD or ZWs agent sleeps until a deal is done and they have a plane waiting and ready to fly him in.
You do realize what the holdup is, the Jets are trying to make sure they can save some money on Wilson's contract if they end up cutting him in the first four years of his contract. That's what the "cut outs" are all about. Look at this from Zach's point of view... Nothing says "we believe in you" like digging in your heels about saving some money just in case you end up sucking and need to be cut before the end of your rookie deal. Unbelievable...
Nah , it is agent bullshit. Any QB worth anything is confident in themselves and not worried about getting cut in 4 years.
I agree with JD and the other GM's looking for offset language. It makes sense from the team POV. Funny thing is tho, if these QB's suck, those same GM's will be right out the door with them.
I agree the offset really does not matter much as if the QB fails that bad then it's a complete disaster regardless of the offset. I think the issue is principal. The Jets don't want to give in and change how things are done and ZW's agent has a lot of pressure to get the same terms as the other top QBs Fields and Lawrence. Either Douglas will need to blink 1st or ZW will have to get antsy and tell his agent he does not care about the offset. It is such a minor issue. I hope someone comes to their senses and gives in quickly.
And, conversely, nothing says "bring it on" like making sure your ass is covered if you bomb out. One coin; two sides.
The training camp battle I'm watching most closely this year is: WLB: Hamsah vs Sherwood (vs Cashman) This is a very important role in this defense, he's the RB hunter. Many 4-3 under run defenses actively funnel the ball carrier to the WLB, so he needs to be fast and be a superior tackler to get to the spot first and win those battles. When the Jets were rumored to be pursuing Keanu Neal, he looked like that perfect fit of speed and violence to convert to WLB (even though he had documented injury issues). That contract negotiation took over a week, so the Jets were pursuing it hard, even though it looks like he was just using them for leverage. Hamsah and Sherwood are like younger, less damaged, more athletic versions of Neal and both hit like a pillow sack full of batteries. I think most people think Sherwood will win out, but I'm with my boy DWC: I think Hamsah is really going to show out if he can avoid the injury bug. He's got a gear that most players don't have. “Pete Carroll once said, ‘You can’t be afraid to play young guys,'” Saleh recently said. “They’re hell on wheels, and they’re fun to watch.” Edit: Forgot to mention Cashman is still on the roster.
Whoa! That's the first I've heard that Davis and Curry won't be available until the 2nd week of the season. Well, at least the Jets will be able to keep a couple of young players on their roster for a few weeks longer, but it may then be harder to sneak those players onto the PS, that when all the other teams are trying to sneak players onto their PS. This is really going to hinder Davis' development as well. Damn, his first two seasons in the NFL no OTAs, no mini-camp, no preseason. At least he had TC last year.
I am encouraged that 81 of 90 are vaccinated plus every coach. That is pretty huge and allows those players a lot more freedom of movement and a lot less tests under the NFL covid rules.
