    Rex called Geno "brutal" today.

    But hey, he's a rookie.

Most of us are, it looks like he's putting some clear daylight between him and Smith. We just don't want a lights-out training camp and then a first-quarter pick 6 for Revis.

You'll have to forgive the cynicism of posters who have seen all this before. We've been Superbowl champs every pre-season.

if marty can make a profeccient(sp) offense that could get up 2 - 3 scores quickly on a team with rex's blitz schemes,it would be deadly.

The Media more than likely after pronouncing Geno as the starter will more than likely start making bullshit articles again.

I can sense the anonymous sources coming our way

Completely agree with this. For at least the past 2 training camps I have come out of it thinking Sanzhez was mediocre at best and hoping he would turn it around when season started.

LOL. Rex being delusional? When does that ever happen?

Geno had a horrible day. it happens. I don't think Idzik or the media is sabotaging anything at this point. The competition has been fair. Both guys are playing with the 1s in pre-season. What more can you ask for? When you have a terrible team and the worst QB in the league, any high draft QB is going to get media attention. That's just the nature of the game. I don't think the hype or excitement around Geno has been out of control. Sanchez has shown what he can do and now people want to see the rook take over and light it up.

Whether Geno starts or not on Saturday is really irrelevant. He's going to play good minutes, health permitting, and he has to step up. If he doesn't and Sanchez does, or is at least solid, then Sanchez will continue to have the edge.

I have not seen one thing out of the ordinary in this QB competition to date. This has been a low-key camp, focused on installs, reps and getting people healthy. Just as it should be.

Perfect example of you just wanting to pick the same fight for the 1,000th time.

Backt to training camp conversation.....I like that Sanchez has bounced bouck very well from that awful pick to start Lions game. Been mostly positive vibes ever since.

Never seen Rex kill Sanchez like he did Geno today, maybe hes being tough on the rook but it was practice. Sanchez has thrown 4 picks in real games and hasn't got on him like this

    geno's worse day no doubt...

certainly gives credence to the idea of sitting him a while, but theres a few things about that:

    1. should he make it up with a good performance saturday next to a turnover prone day from sanchez it could lead them to believe he is a more stable option rookie warts and all then Sanchez. you ask me this coupled with greater upside is the biggest reason to start him in the first place.

    2. its one practice, and he's had better. this one day won't define what his campaign brings.

we'll all attach to the news that makes us right, but I think a common thread is that we need to see him let loose for better or worse on saturday. that along with a larger picture should give us our best look.

Great to see Sanchez have another day of strong practice.

I'm really pulling for Sanchez this year. Why wouldn't I? He's a starting quarterback for our Jets. Enough for me to wish the best for Mark. Heading into his 5th season but this time, with an experienced offensive coordinator with a proven track record for offensive success. One thing about Sanchez, is heading into his 5th season he's already seen it all. Experience. He's won. He's lost bad. He's been to the playoffs along with two AFC Championship games under his belt. He's had some success and he's also failed miserably. If it all starts to click, it can become a pretty thing to see.

If Sanchez does indeed start, I believe he'll have more success than some doubters currently give him credit for. Why? Because he not only has a successful offensive coordinator calling the X's and O's come game time but also has lots of pass catching weapons to work with in Stephen Hill and Braylon Edwards on the outside, Jeremy Kerley and Santonio Holmes working the slots as our 3rd and 4th WR's along with both of Kellen Winslow Jr. and Jeff Cumberland working the middle of the field as pass catching TE's. And if we're able to feature Ivory as our featured back, then Sanchez will be in great position with players everywhere on the football field along with a borderline top 5 type of OC.

In regards to Geno Smith, you can tell by my avatar that I want this kid to become our starter. But I want him to earn it, not be given. As of right now Sanchez is beating him out. Throwing 4/5 INT's today isn't the way to win a quarterback battle but at the same time, I also understand that he's only a rookie who's learning on the fly. For these younger kids (such as Geno) you really do learn from mistakes. And you can not learn from mistakes without first making them. And yes, if he does start as a rookie he'll make lots of boneheaded rookie mistakes. Just the nature of the position. Hopefully he'll learn from this off day of practice with struggles and become a better/stronger quarterback because of it moving forward. I love how this kid is eager to learn both on the football field along with off the football field when in regards to the X's and O's, playbooks, video footage etc. Geno really wants it. Has a rocket for an arm. Very mobile inside the pocket with overall good athletic ability. A true pocket passer. So yes I want Geno Smith leading the way sooner rather than later but if he's not starting against the Jaguars you won't see me cry nor complain. I understand it's only his second preseason game as a rookie coming off a banged up ankle during week one. And if anything, Sanchez deserves the start due to A.) Responding after the screen pass INT and B.) Having a strong week of camp.

Also great to hear about Holmes starting to run. Like it or not, but we need Holmes badly in order to make a strong postseason push. But we need a focused Holmes, not a locker room distraction. If we can get a focused Holmes then our WR set is stronger than ever with Hill, Edwards, Kerley and Holmes.

Interesting. Has Rex ever called a Sanchez practice performance much less a game performance brutal??

don't take anything out of preseason other than good health. It really doesn't tell us anything.

Again, if he sucks he'll be gone so most will get their wish. If he's really good we'll be really good and hopefully everyone will be happy but I doubt it.

Genos horrible get over it. The guy played in an offense that made him relevant. Geno's nothing more than a 5th or 6th rounder if he played in a real offense.
