I think he gave the earned amount of credit. AVT looks like a good pick so far because he's been consistent and dependable although he hasn't been a pro bowl level player and sometimes Jets fans want to pencil a guy in after a very short sample of production. Denzel Mims was penciled in as a starter last year by many fans and those same fans were confused when Joe started drafting and signing so many receivers. They couldn't figure out why the Jets weren't sold on Mims after the 8 jump balls they saw him catch in 2020. It boggles my mind that people can't find objectivity after 11 years of playoff failure.
As most on here know I absolutely hated this move trading up 2 3’s for a IOL. He’s been decent on the field but he’s no Quinton Nelson or Zach Martin… he’s average and we could of got average in free agency or trade 1 3rd for a solid pro. It makes zero sense at the time and now. JD better not fuck this draft up like the rest of his drafts. He’s yet to hit on a pro bowler in 2 drafts with high picks. He’s got a nack for getting great value in trades but that’s really all he has going for him.
Can you name all the rookie pro bowlers this year? And then all the pro bowlers that were drafted in the last two years?
I can’t no. However it’s clear a few guys will be perennial pro bowlers. Chase, Parsons, Creed Humphrey, Slater, Surtain, Pitts etc etc
Hey, it does not matter what is done is done. Our o-line went from worst in the league to middle of the pack. I would say that is a success.
Mims showed some flashes, but I don't think Mims had multiple games where he was ranked as the best overall player in NFL for a week in his position. AVT has done it a couple of times. He also like you said was dependable. AVT showed more than flashes so far. Agreed, not a pro bowler, but having a solid dependable LG, who had several top games in NFL at the position as a rookie, is worth the trade up, particularly given the overall poor performance and health of other Gs taken around that pick, whom we would have ended up with but for trade up.
Good early performance and good trajectory... that doesn't necessarily justify a trade up in the first round to me. He's got a ways to go before that happens but he is definitely on the right path.
I guess getting 3 rock solid starters and 3 role players/solid depth pieces plus a potential FQB is a massive fuck up. The only people that look at the 2021 draft and say it was a fuck up are Jets fans, no one else. This board is unreal.
There are many ways to build a football team but the object is always the same, to collect good football players. 2021 is looking like it could potentially be a franchise altering offseason. AVT is a huge part of this offseason and will be a foundational piece going forward. We gave up one pick while securing what looks to be a very good player to go forward with. The idea of collecting picks is to have flexibility to pounce when the opportunity arises which is what we did with AVT. We still had more draft picks than most teams and still do the following offseason. The fact that this is a thread would be mind boggling if it wasn’t coming from Jets fans.
Actually utilizing every draft pick to take players, especially late in the draft is ridiculous. Like you said, you need to accumulate as much draft capital as possible so you can move up and down the board as you please. Even after that trade, the Jets still took 10 players!
Ja'marr Chase** Rashawn Slater** Justin Herbert Justin Jefferson** Tristan Wirfs** Kyle Pitts** Jonathan Taylor** Chase Young Trevon Diggs** Devin Duvernay** ** indicates players Joe Douglas passed on
You left off Micah Parsons. So 10 players from 9 teams. That means only 9 teams had a good draft these last two years according to the Rockinz school of thought. I don't need to say any more.
Ah yes playoff teams like the Vikings, Falcons and WFT. Ravens probably wont be a playoff team either but that's because they're missing their starting QB. But also we have a player at Duvernay's pro bowl position that does it better than him, so that point is moot regardless.
Ravens and Washington were in the playoffs last year. Because of their drafts. Atlanta & Minny arethe only one from the list not to see the playoffs in the last 2 years but I would trade rosters with them in a second. Pitts shoulda been the pick instead of Wilson. IMO
You were shitting all over the notion of us being 21st in overall offense, then 17th in scoring over the last few months but you want to trade rosters with a team that ranks below us in points, yards per game, passing yards per game and rushing yards per game? Bizarre.
Wait a second, you’re saying a TE should’ve been the pick at 2 over a franchise QB prospect and you expect anyone to take your football comments seriously going forward?
At least say Micah Parsons or Jamarr Chase or someone at a position of need that is having an all-pro caliber rookie year. But the TIGHT END playing in a worse offense than the one we currently have, which he also shits on... I mean that's just gold right there.
