With what I feel Rex Ryan will want to do, TJ needs to stay.

Okay that's fair...but i ask you...why wouldn't Rex want a fresh set of legs to pound the ball in his Run-first offense?

so why does TJ "need" to stay?

not saying he shouldn't....but why does Rex NEED him? Because i don't see him as a "need".

Keep Jones and use our picks to draft the safety/CB we do need.

Not sure if anybody pointed this out yet but there is probably too big a cap hit to make it doable.

I'm tired of everyone shitting on Jones. The guy had an incredible season, now you all wanna trade him. WTF?!?!?!? Does no one remember the broncos loss when he ran the ball 60 plus yards eluding the entire denver defense. 12 games into the season and the guy ran like it was week 1. He's not the prototypical running back that breaks down at 30. Let him play out his contract. Corey Dillon is not nearly the specimen TJ is and he played till 33.

I didn't start this thread to shit on Jones. I think he's been fantastic for us. I just think that if we can get good value for him it would be a good time to "sell high". Considering how well rookie running back adapt to the NFL I don't think it would be that hard to replace him with a 2nd or 3rd round guy.

A lot of people are saying he wouldn't get us a second round pick, maybe I did over value him. I said the same thing about Curtis Martin after he lead the league in rushing. It would have been the perfect time to trade him because he broke down the next season and was never himself again.

I'm fine with keeping Jones, like I said I think he's been fantastic for us. If we can get good value it may be the right time to look into a young buck.

No one is paying a second rounder for Jones. The Jets didn't even pay a 2nd, all they did was move down in the round.

I'm cool with drafting a running back, i just remember the huge step back the jets took when martin was on the pup list, forget about when he retired. These late round rb's are transitioning really well, so draft a late round bulldozer rb, and let him learn behind tj for a season or two. His contract is not outrageous, so let him play out his contract. For a team to forego youth in the second round, for a guy who will give em maybe the remainder of his contract, its not worth it for anyone. to be honest i dont even see a third, maybe (and i use the term loosely) a forth.

    Better off keeping him

They got TJ by moving down in the 2nd round 2 seasons ago, how would they get a 2nd rd pick for him now?

If we can get a 2nd, I?m all for it. But I think you overestimated his value. I don?t think he?s worth more than a 4th at best right now. As you said, he?s a 30 yo RB, there aren?t many, who have success beyond their 30 and everyone knows that. And when you look at last year?s RB class and how succesfull the late 1st to 3rd round RBs have been, I can?t see any GM trade a 2nd or 3rd for a average to above average RB, that has 1 maybe 2 years left.

change his name to doug jolly then trade him to the jets for a 1st round pic. duh.

but seriously, rex is building a team with a strong defense and a solid game controlling running offense. with the question mark we alreday have at qb, rex would never add another question mark at rb for the sake of a draft pic.

Hit the nail on the head there. Jones has very little trade value right now. We Swaped second round picks for him 2 years ago, moving down 20ish spots to get him. Why would his value rise in any way now that he is two years older with similar production then he had in his last season as a Bear? The answer is it would not.

It won't happen so there is no reason to dream about it.

Yeah, you guys are all right. I overestimated his value, so this was a bad idea. If he's only worth a 4th round pick we should keep him.

Thomas Jones had one heck of a year. I am not sure why any of you would want to trade him. TJ and LW, were actually very good all year why mess that up. We have problems that need fixing, let's focus on them

I think we are locked in on his cap based on his front bonus and he has very little trade value. We should draft a back this year but there is no point in dumping Jones. I don't love him but it makes sense to keep him and draft a back in the third or fourth round to develop behind Jones and become a tandem with Leon in 2010 when Jones will be near the end.

The Eagles would give us a 2nd rounder for Jones...it's what they're missing.

And if this were last year, I'd say do it. But TJ showed me something this year, running with speed and authority. The guy is an absolute keeper.
