This is a good point, but keep in mind that whomever is better they are ALL going to make each other better by playing together. Simply, the more dominating DLinemen you have the harder it is for the OL to cope. It is even tougher if your rotation is good as well, which is why I'm sad to see Ellis go. IMO, as long as their asking prices are within reason we need to keep these guys together. Let them build chemistry and become a truly dominant line.
The issue may be money.. Can the jets afford to resign him and Richardson. That's the only reason they would potentially trade him.
OK then don't complain about mediocre talent, don't complain about being a .500 team be like the Knicks develop young talent trade them for over the hill 15 year vets. Then sit back and wonder why you suck!

Lol I'm not advocating trading Wilkerson. I'm just pointing out that it's gong to take a tremendous amount of effort to navigate resigning him and richardson when there is a salary cap in place. Not sure what has you confused or where I stated I wanted him traded for an aging player. I'm pointing out an obvious problem.
Only if Winston is sitting at #2. Anyone who thinks Jameis isn't going to be a QB just watch the board session with Mariucci...I don't think Geno could even do that if he rehearsed it for a month
I wouldn't trade Mo for the pick. However, I've maintained since last year, Winston is the best QB in the past 20 yrs coming out, sans Manning and Luck. I'd go all in for Jameis, but not selling Mo. Give our entire draft away, I'd be fine with it.
I don't think they would get an offer like this: the second overall pick for Wilk. Tenn. wouldn't do it at that price. Does Mac think he can re-sign Wilk at current prices. The Suh signing by Tannenbaum raised the bar on D-linemen. Even though Wilk isn't as good as Suh. If given that offer and they think they couldn't re-sign him I'd do it. The key nowadays is signing your top draft picks at a cheaper price and then letting them walk after their rookie contract expires. In most cases but not all. A franchise Qb you'd obviously re-sign.
the titans could draft lennard williams and not have to pay the contract for 4 years with a 5th option
Yeah right. I'm all in on Fitzpatrick leading the Jets to a SB. Without a QB, the Jets can have 6-7 players of Wilkerson's caliber, but will never win the big prize. So, if 10-6 and a playoff win or two is your goal, you are on the right track. If the Jets are going to win a SB, they need more than a journeyman hold the fort QB or Smith has to develop in leaps and bounds with the new regime. Wilkerson type players are easier to find in the draft than a QB. You draft QBs until you get it right. And, by the way, it is a stretch to find a top notch QB in the middle rounds. Wilson and Brady are anomalies. Almost every starting QB in the NFL was drafted in the first round or very early in the second.
That was 15 years ago. The Dilfer and Brad Johnson examples are dinosaurs in today's NFL. That plan doesn't work any more. Next argument.
I don't think Wilson is a complete anomaly. He's a game manager who was undersized. Strong running game, great defense, don't throw INTs = Super Bowl in his case.
Wilson is not a game manager by any stretch of the word and does not even belong in the same conversation as Dilfer, Johnson and others you bring up. Wilson is one of the best QBs in the league right now - top 10 if not top 5. You are underselling Wilson. And the Seahawks were lucky to land such a talented player in the third round.
I never said fitz was joe Montana.. I'm just not bought into Mariota or any spread qb for that fact.. I don't think this draft has anyone worth gambling on other than winston and he will be gone. I don't follow college football but after a convo with Falco where he sold me on winston. I started watching highlights, one thing that stands out to me about Mariota and all spread qbs.. There one read players. Very rarely scan the field and if there read isn't there they run.. This makes sense as to why the struggle so mch in the nfl.. Look Mariota may be great, the draft is all a guess.. Go look at highlghts for Mariota, geno smith, hundley, tebow all amazing college numbers.. Watch the plays and watch how quickly the ball is out and the recoevers are just racking up Yac. Be objective and watch, I'm saying watch there highlights not lowlights and be objective and you will see what I'm talking about. When bruce Arians said playing in the spread offense isn't qb'ing I agree. You can draft these guys but it's gonna take years for them to adapt to the pro game imo.
Mariotta has a chance to be an awesome NFL QB ... The best scenario for him is to land behind a talented QB and learn the pro game for a couple years. Someplace like GB, NE or Denver. He will most likely fail in NY ... Who is he going to learn from ? u less Pennington is brought in to mentor him for a couple years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
