That's exactly correct.. He is underated because he doesn't have the "sack" numbers and the jets havent been relavent since he was drafted. He commands a double team on every play. He's the anchor of the line, while he may not have many sacks he has a ton of hurries and disrupts allot of plays in ways that don't get attention. extremely underated and comment above yours reinforces that. Crazy how he's overlooked.
If what you say is true it's better for the team because it means they should be able to extend him for less than if he was a sexier, higher profile name. Your sentiments on Wilkerson could just as easily be echoed for Hughes, Kyle Williams, Dareus. I am guessing fans of the team appreciate them a lot more than outsiders. It also helps guys as far as getting recognition when their teams win. BTW, Charles Clay is a good player but 20 M guaranteed and a 12 M cap charge for 2016 is a lot for any TE. Good luck getting a return on that investment.
This isn't true. PFF has consistently ranked him as the best 5-technique guy after JJ Watt, and the league has taken notice. Wilkerson is considerably better than an unproven rookie, particularly because he's still on his rookie contract. That said, I do worry that Wilkerson thinks he is better than he is. If he wants Watt money, he won't be a Jet after a year or two. Plus I think Sheldon is actually gonna be better than Wilkerson soon, but they are both incredible talents.
The problem is that I don't think that Mariota is a sure fire prospect whereas MoWilk is clearly an increasingly dominant player just heading into his prime. If we could get an Andrew Luck type prospect then maybe you do it! but not with Mariota.
If the Chargers asked for Mo Wilk in exchange for Phillip Rivers, ( a proven NFL, Pro Bowl caliber, quarterback) I'd pass. I'm certainly not trading him for Mariotta.
So you guys want pro bowl talent at every position but don't want to pay market price for said talent. You get what you pay for...more or less.
FYI...I am not in favor of this trade. All that I am saying is that if the Jets brass decides he is 'the guy', then this might sense as well as relating to the managing the cap. I am in favor of drafting an edge rusher or a wr with the 6th pick.
Seriously ?I could understand if Andrew Luck was gonna be there at num 2 then id do it in a heart beat. But enough already with BS like this
Nope not true. Before every game last season I went to the opposing teams boards to see what the chatter was and almost every time Wilkerson was mentioned as a concern. But thanks for playing
geno is the only bust I see here (his throwing motion looks like a duck trying to flap its wings :/)... I would take Mariota in a heartbeat, have him sit behind Fitz & have Chan teach him... as an OC Chan IS one of the best.
If you don't know or care about Wilkerson, than your are a homer who only pays attention to your team, or you are stupid. I suppose you didn't know or care about Revis in 2009.
Teams (outside of the Jets) don't care what their fan base thinks with regards to the FO and talent. The people who need to know what kind of talent Wilk is, know. That said, the idea of trading him straight up for the #2 seems a little silly.
Teams win by having undervalued players. Right now, Wilkerson fits that bill. The question is, do you give him a contract that could hamstring the Jets in the future and roll with the horse you rode in on, while showing your team and future FAs that you'll pony up when it makes sense to? Or do you balk at his salary expectations and let someone else pay market price for his services? It's not as easy as an open and shut case as people make it out to be. If you can get the #2 pick and you think Mariota is the answer or you think Leonard Williams is the next great D lineman, then you have to entertain it solely because those players' rookie deals pale in comparison. That's really why the deal is a pipe dream though. Not because the jets won't do it (they may or may not), but because the Titans shouldn't. We all love Wilk, but everyone's got a price, and it's not like he's going to be cheap to resign. But he does carry tremendous value and moving him could leave a gaping hole. Double edged sword.
Right. If the premise is that the Jets believe Mariotta will be a good starting QB, then getting 2 impact players ( with one of them a QB) for Mo would be a good deal. I could care less that any player was a Jet for life. This is the Era of the Mercenary. Mo is not gonna take less to stay here.
Out of curiosity, why? Where did all the "trade mo" talk come from? In spite of the Jets laughable drafting for the past few years the one things we've managed to do right is assemble a helluva Dline. So far the new GM has tendered snacks at only a 2nd rounder (not my preference, but not horrible), let Ellis walk, and now peeps are talking about trading MoWilk. I don't get it, this is the one strength of our team! I can understand trading some of our depth, but now that Ellis is gone some of that depth has gone with him and even if Coples moves back to DL he will take time to properly transition. I don't get it.... I'd rather try to build a new New York Sack Exch. than help other teams build their own great DLs using our talent!
