Your "We don't have to pay the line hardly anything" statements are absurd and flat out wrong. They remove any credibility from this post.
there is a lot more flexibility in 2017. The only starters set to hit FA in 2017 are Mo (if we play out this franchise tag), Marcus Williams and Brian Winters. Guys we can cut with limited dead money hit: D'brick - 13M cap savings Mangold - 9M cap savings Marshall - 7.5M cap savings Harris - 6.5M cap savings Decker - 5.75M cap savings Gilchrist - 5.38M cap savings Breno - 4.5M cap savings (if we don't cut him this season) And then there is always Revis, which would save 7.3M, but also leave 8M dead money, so i wouldn't necessarily suggest that unless his play declines quite a bit. Have to figure at least 2 of the above will be let go prior to 2017, and then probably another 2 the following year. So to me, future cap looks healthy, and not a reason to let any core young players go.
When Mo signs the tender he can no longer negotiate with other teams. There is no way he's signing the tender until he's satisfied there is no way to move in free agency. He counts against the cap from the moment the Jets tender him until they resolve his contract in some way that does not count against the 2016 cap.
Yep, because the Jets have tendered him a contract for that amount and until he signs it the overhang is there on the cap. Once he signs the tender he has agreed to the contract and is no longer a free agent.
Interestingly Mo said he wouldn't be ready for opening day, then his agent came out and declared Mo will be ready to go at the start of the season.
Mo says one thing for the Jets consumption to encourage them to trade him or sign him long term and his agent says another to signal to other teams that he will be available at the start of the season, and so a signing or trade is not unreasonable (despite probably being unreasonable due to high contract plus draft pick compensation to the Jets.) It's just business. Mo's injury at the end of the season screwed the Jets more than Mo. He wasn't going to get any serious free agent offers anyway as a franchise tagged player but the Jets ability to tag and trade him was impacted by the injury and the questions it caused.
Yeah, the whole set of circumstances kinda went against the Jets as far as the DL went. The timing of Snacks FAgency, Richardson and his behavior, and the timing with Mo and Mo's injury. Mac needs Big Cat to be a stud. Boy Mac is in a tough spot. I hate losing guys like Snacks and Mo. But Mac needs space to rework the foundation here, and infuse the roster with youth and talent Sucks for the fans that have been around for awhile and to accept the long term view...like me
I'm defending Macc. No one would have seen those things coming. I'm saying he had a good plan but circumstances threw big wrenches into it.
I know this is an old thread but if i have the second pick in the draft Wilkerson alone isnt enough to make a trade
Nope. Mo's injury made the situation worse for us. I don't know what we can get, but it won't be equal value most likely. Unless Mac scores on the draft pick where ever it is
Holy shit looking the first few pages is hilarious. Half of them retarded. .. Everyone lost their shit when he wanted to trade for the 2nd overall pick. Lmao this guy will get traded for a 2nd round draft pick u people need to realize that
Everyone in the beginning of this thread who were asking for more needs to step up and realize how dumb they are. Right now.
OK. Thanks for the clarification. I thought you were defending him, but that one statement was a little open-ended, and I wasn't sure where you were coming from.
Um, did you notice the date when this thread was started? Things are very different now than they were last year at this time.
In all fairness, the Titans turned down a package of two firsts, a second, Bradford, and Fletcher Cox for Mariota. No way would they have done anything more than laugh at the Mo offer.
the problem with stuff like "we can cut this guy with little/no dead money" is that most of those names are starters at positions that can command pretty decent salaries(WR/Tackle). if you cut those guys, you still need to replace those starting positions. and im not sure we are replacing all that in 1 or 2 drafts
Please look at the original post. I proposed the following: Mo plus possibly another pick to move up to the number 2 pick for Mariotta. I did this knowing that Mo would need to be paid and that obviously we would need a franchise Qb if we were sold on Mariotta.
Fairness has nothing to do with it. The point is that the poster I responded to was calling people stupid and their posts retarded as if they were posted this year, not a year ago. I'll be he didn't even notice that the thread was a year old. He's looking at things in hindsight, which is always 20/20 and they were posting beforehand.
