We need a Suspend Disbelief forum. I'm willing to debate just about anything given the proper context. Here, I say: get rid of injury prone players however you can, even if it's only in an alternate reality.
I believe Edwards can be coached up....and Ellard would be an excellent resource to do it, IMO. I'm not too concerned with the money issue.....I understand we have to be wary of our cap...and at this point, Edwards is certainly not worthy of 10 million a season. But if the Giants can pay 97 million for "mediocrity"....then 10 million a season doesn't sound that crazy for a #1 wideout with his skillset. But the bottom line is...we're in need of a #1 WR. There's nobody left on the market worth taking a look at. I think Edwards could be that guy...not just for the present...but for the long term. Sanchez needs a target that can stretch the field.
I don't know if I agree with the trade proposal that the OP mentioned, but I do believe we need to go out and get a number 1 WR. We have so much talent on this team all over the place, except at WR. Cotch is a good number 2 and Chansi/Clowney/Wright/etc can be an effective number 3, but without a true WR threat our team will be in trouble. I am not sure if this is a valid comparison, but I like to compare this years WR corps to our secondary group from last season. We had some good secondary players in Revis and Rhodes, but since we had a big hole on the other side of them, the secondary as a whole was one of the worst in the entire NFL. I believe, with the addition of just one player, our offense will improve dramatically. We have to be able to keep defenses honest, because I'm sure they will try to stick 8 in the box every chance they can to stop our solid running game. And if they are able to stop our running game, our passing attack will also be non-existent. I know everybody knows this already and that it is common knowledge that WR is our biggest need, but I think a trade involving furture draft picks is justified here (as long as it's for a proven player with a least a few years left in him)
This is one of the gayest threads ever. Edwards is a bum. He's FA after the year. He drops every other ball thrown to him and he's out of shape. Did I mention he makes a ton of money? Next, we will want ochocinco and trade MORE draft picks.
are you sniffing glue? Edwards caught 16 TD's from a 3rd string QB (IMO) 2 seasons ago.....he drops passes..but that's certainly coachable. It's not like he's Justin Fucking McCareins!!
I'm all for trading E. Smith and getting Edwards. But damn it let's keep our draft picks for once. I proposed months ago trading Brad and Eric Smith and B. Thomas for Edwards. As I recall the reaction was mixed and the Brownies probably would not do it anyway.
If that's the case, then a sign and trade is the only way we'd give up the picks. I disagree about the "bum" angle though. Bums don't average almost 900 yds/season over their first four years in the league, especially WRs. edit: Let me put it another way...Edwards has more yards in 4 years than J-Co has in 5.
Well at least i provoked some debate and some quetions ref my sanity!! For me its all down to who Mangini feels he can plug into his system in Cleveland and who we would be willing to give up. 2 x smiths plus a 2 nd for edwards may not be as far fetched as people think. I do feel we will bring someone in via trade but lets hope for all of our sanity its someone decent!!
Eric Smith for Braylon Edwards for a 2nd a 4th? Stop playing Madden. 2 years ago Braylon caught 16 TDs. I don't think there's a player in Jets history that caught as many TDs. I know he's had his drops, but he was still a top-3 pick and has shown that he can produce. Mangini would have to be retarded to consider a 2nd and a 4th.
Why are WRs always overvalued in trades? Galloway and Keyshawn go for 2 #1's. Deion Branch fetched a #1. Chris Chambers a #2. Roy Williams a #1 and a #3. Washington offered two #1's for ochocinco. Javon Walker a #2 from GB to Denver. The Raiders gave up the #7 pick in the draft for Moss. All ridiculous. Did it work out for any of these teams? Meanwhile guys like Kris Jenkins goes for a #3 & #5, Shaun Rogers goes for a #3 and a spare CB. These are guys that actually produce and not whine and spout off all the time like these primadonna receivers. The only WR trade I can think of where somebody gave up a high pick that truly worked out was NE giving a #2 for Welker. I think we can all agree Welker is the antithesis of those other WRs. Yes, we do need help at WR but it is not a priority position for me. QB, LT, pass rusher, NT...much more important. With Keller and Leon we have weapons. Its so easy to just say we need this, go trade for that Madden style. Then next year during the draft everyone will be complaining we dont have any picks and we have an underachieving, malcontent WR. No thanks.
mbgreen i have to tell you. this is by far the best post ive seen from you. i agree with it all bro. we need a #1 wr.
