This is probably one of the worst ideas I have heard. And is it even possible to trade players on IR? On top of that when Revis is healthy, we could get much better for him.
Does anyone think a WR or any one guy would make a difference? Don't trade any picks, build a young team through the draft, but we need to draft a QB
He is a 3rd round QB, that has no immediate impact in this league. That being said, he can't do any worse than Sanchez, and the neither could Tebow/McElroy. This is more about reducing salary for next year.
You do have the right idea on how to get somebody else to take Sanchez. However, you need to prepare yourself before this type of trade. Jets can go decades before having a player dominate their position like Revis. Sanchez is guaranteed big money for only one more season & therefore he'll continue to be the starter until ending of next season. Afterwards, Jets can move on & they'll still have the chance to resign/keep Revis. If Mark has 3-4 years left of top pay guaranteed then you'd be looking to wrap him up with all kinds of incentives to discard him.
We don't know how much Revis is gonna hold out for. Hopefully because of the injury we can get him reasonably. Losing Revis to get rid of Sanchez isn't a positive in my eyes
Revis is considered the top Cornerback in the NFL, and could be unanimous. However, what have we lost since we lost him? Sanchez on the other hand has killed us. What people either don't know, or don't think about, is that the salary can be transferred to another team. We could not trade Sanchez for a 7th round pick right now, and only Revis could make it possible
The top rated player at his position, who sustain a season ending injury, will want top money to protect his future. We do know that.
But in the end, wouldn't be better to wait that year, keep Revis and then lose Sanchez instead of giving up Revis just to rush Sanchez out of here? Because that trade isn't turning this season around
Any trades need to feature the Jets on the receiving end of 2013 draft picks. DeAngelo Williams isn't doing anything for this team.
Well if you look in other threads, you'll see my plan, specifically the Sanchez sucks thread. It involves using Sanchez as a scapegoat to buy Rex time here as a coach and avoid 100% rebuild. But doesn't his contract contain very low guaranteed money next year? We can just cut him?
$12+ million guaranteed, so no. In addition, his signing bonus will be brought to full to make his salary hit $17+ million. Right now, Sanchez does not make or break this team. Any QB on the Roster would not be worse than what we have seen this season. If we could make a trade we would not be affected moving forward this season.
