i can maybe see someone giving us a 6th say for harris. thomas/pace/scott - yeah probably not. looking at our roster, we really dont have many tradeable assets. we are super thin with young talent, cant afford to deal from the offensive line, and our rotational guys are kind of old or pricey
If a 6th rounder is all we can get for Harris we shouldn't trade him anyway. He's not great, but he's a solid ILB. No point in creating a hole for a 6th round pick.
Yes, yes it is. The best they'll do in the second half is 5-3, putting them at an at best 8-8 and that will not be good enough to get in. Best case they lose a tie-breaker to Miami or Pittsburgh. Worst case they just screw up their draft stock. Tim Tebow, David Harris, Yeremiah Bell.
Oh, I'm with you. I want Sanchez out ASAP. Just saying that when he does go out, things won't drastically improve. This team won't be able to contend for even a playoff berth until 2014. This is a 2-6 team that got lucky one Sunday and the schedule gets even tougher next season with the AFC North and NFC South.
So the Jets stood pat at the trading deadline. That's probably the best move they've made personnel-wise in two seasons. It's also probably an indicator that Woody is going to use the second half of the season to evaluate where the team is. If the Jets play well the second half everybody is safe for another year, even if that means 7-9/8-8 and no playoffs again. If they collapse we're going to see the big broom. That's just how I'd read the tea leaves right now.
Last I checked there were 16 games in a season, not 8. If the Jets can manage to win @Seattle coming off the bye the rest of the schedule doesn't appear to be nearly as difficult as the first half of the season. Let's see if Rex can have the team ready after a bye week for once.
I think in this case we did the right thing. I would have hated to see us make a move and trade away picks just to appease the fan base or out of shear desperation. We aren't going anywhere with this team, so I think we just ride out the season and re-evaluate after its over. I would love a stud RB next season to keep defenses honest and think it would go a long way in really seeing what we've got in Sanchez in what's going to be a make or break year for him.
I wanted to trade players away for picks. I wish the trade deadline was later in the season like in hockey. The trade deadline for hockey is so exciting because at that point, certain teams know they're out and others know they have a chance so teams will be willing to make blockbuster trades for that guy who will put them over the top even if it's a rental type player (contract year player).
Hm. This is a bit complicated. In general I agree with your point. The rest of the season can and should be used to evaluate who stays and who goes. Answers to that for some, though, are already more clear than for others. Of course it is in the nature of things that those who seem most clearly to not be suitable for retention in the coming off season are that much less likely to be trade bait now. So in effect I don't see who could have been traded for any benefit to the team at this point. My only minor quibble is to make the point that I doubt some here have any, and I mean any, reasonable prospect of showing they belong if as of now they have shown they don't belong. For example I have been more favorably disposed toward Pace than many here, but he entered the season with a huge burden in the form of his contract, and he has shown already, as far as I am concerned, that he has not overcome that burden in terms of hte future. In the remaining season he is virtually certain to not reverse that assessment. Similarly it is crystal clear that the offensive coaching staff had no clue how to use Tebow, despite all the ridiculous implications to the contrary made before the season began. So he can pack his bags, too, as far as I am concerned. To get to the biggest issue of this sort, however, I think Mark Sanchez is close to, but not quite in, that situation. I highly doubt he can turn it on for the last eight games. But if he did, HIS contract situation might require the Jets having a lower bar for his retention than might otherwise be the case. Thanks to Tanny. But basically I agree with you.
If the price was right, I would've tried to trade Landry for picks. The reason is that I still don't trust that he is able to stay healthy for an entire year by the way he tackles and he has made a resurgence as a Jet and will command a higher salary next year which we can't afford.
Why would anyone trade for a guy they could have signed without giving up a draft pick in the offseason? He's also a free agent after this season.
