I'm still having a hard time squaring in my head that Aaron Glenn, the defensive minded coach who has been adamant from the jump that we are a team trying to win games, was a voice in the room in support of these trades. Or that the fact they happened is a good long term sign of his job security.

I mean he was even still playing bs "competitive advantage" posture games a few days ago about stating who the starting QB was going to be. Yet he woke up today and was like "more piled on criticism about the defense being even worse the rest of the year be damned. I want to trade my 2 best players away on MY side of the ball"?

Sorry…but Briggs is a pretty big step down from Q, and so is AZ…we’ll see if either or both of those guys can play well enough, but come on…they are replacing players who were pro bowlers and All Pro’s a couple years ago…it’s a downgrade no question.

I think the defense sucking was more due to fucking coaching ineptitude than it was to Q and Sauce not playing as well as they did a couple of years ago.

I just hate this tear down bullshit by creating more holes…I’ve seen this show before, over and over, and it hasn’t worked out at all for us.

And I just hate seeing the VERY few good draft picks we make get sent off and justified with stupid shit like “well we weren’t winning with them, we can lose without them” crap. We’ve been very good at justifying getting rid of good players…Keyshawn was “me-Shawn” and a bad team guy, Abraham was hurt too much, Revis was greedy and wanted money, and always the companion line of “well we weren’t going anywhere this year anyway”, or “well, we are losing anyway”. I am so fucking tired of it.

Yeah, we keep on fucking losing because we can never figure out how to fucking keep our good players, as rare as they are!

Not fucking rocket science…you get better by getting MORE good players, not giving them away. Now we have to HOPE that Mougey can turn these picks into pro-bowlers and All Pro’s I guess.

    Time will tell…

    Now we have to hope...

You make it sound like we were on a good path with the pro bowlers Williams and Gardner.

The Jets have not won more than 7 games in 10 years, they have had 1 winning season in the last 15 years. What path were the Jets on?

Agree on a coach, but the problem is, Glenn is not going away. I think maybe 0-17 could get rid of Glenn, but once he won that one game, no chance. Mooge did the best thing that can be done in this situation. We are bottom 5 defense conceding 27.6 ppg with 1-7 record. Yes, AZ and Briggs are worse, but I am not even sure we will get much worse as a defense. Mooge gave this team a chance. It's not just picks, but much more financial flexibility.

Basically Mooge now has to work around this lacking coach, get him the guys he can maximize, because he was clearly not doing that with Sauce and Q. Plus now we can bolster the offense for the new QB. And yes, he needs to hit on the picks but that is the case even before the trade.

How the heck was Glenn not maximizing Sauce? He was having a fantastic year and even tackling better.

You can only put so much on coaching. Glenn has coached 8 games his entire career so far. 8 games. This franchise with better rosters has been bad for YEARS. Glenn can get better and we should all be hoping he does. The only way to make the roster better is to blow it up unfortunately.

You are correct, these players were not helping us win obviously, let's see how much better our defense is this week. They will look good against the atrocious Browns offense and some will take a victory lap but let's look at it after the season.
I truly believe we all want tGlenn to get better but his first 7 games were not just bad but atrocious, just absolutely blundered every decision then made it worse in pressers. I truly hope it gets better but holy smokes it's really bad and seeing success around the league from 1st year coaches while ours has us in the #1 spot is pretty frustrating. The problem isn't the trades, I actually think Moug did an amazing job of extracting value but if the coaching stays this bad the rest of the season how can we have hope that Glenn can just all of a sudden go from the worst coach in decades to serviceable much less good coach. Not to mention Woody called Moug Glenn's sidekick so I am supposed to believe Glenn can draft and develop a rookie? What possibly gives you the idea that's the right move?

Probably need to point out what other rookie head coaches have at their disposal as compared to Glenn.

Coen - Lawrence, Hunter, Etienne, Thomas Jr, very very good defense

Johnson - Caleb, Moore, Odunze, Swift

Look at Kellen Moore who has maybe the only roster and QB worse than Glenn and it all makes sense.

Glenn has been bad but he’s got almost nothing to work with. I’m not saying it’s going to change I’m saying we probably can’t make sweeping decisions right now. You can, but you’re just begging to be miserable.

That is what they went into the year with, remember our D was not supposed to be bad, people honestly believed we had a good defense until we didn't (Glenn has to take some responsibility for this).
Glenn - Fields (this was his pick for QB, need to own that) Wilson, Hall, Mason, 2 1st round tackles. That's not bad coupled with a good defense. Just saying if the shoe was on the other foot and you were a bears fan and Glenn, Fields combo worked you would be using the Jets as an example but difference is all of their situations worked out, ours didn't, why?

I’m not sure I can have a discussion is the basis of it is “pretend Justin Fields worked out” because that’s not even remotely close to what actually happened. That’s an ultra hypothetical.

Yes but the alternatives weren't great.. Fields, Wilson, Winston etc. Doubtful that Darnold would want to come back here. I just hope the GM spends the $94mm or so in cap space wisely. That and a solid draft a wish and prayer can jump start this team. I don't expect them to find another Q or sauce but lets hope they find solid starters and FA's. It looks like they may have to draft a WR, seems like the best available FA are Pickens, Shaheed and Meyers. Pickens will be expensive and I worry about him returning to the head case he was in Pitt. I'm guessing seahags will try to sign Shaheed before he becomes a FA. No idea if Jax will try to sign Meyers.

Question.. If Fields somehow regains some remote semblance of a viable NFL QB, do the Jets pass on a FQB in '26 as the consensus seems to be the class of '27 is the one to watch.

Fields is a stopgap, there was always a high chance he failed. It’s not like they pinpointed him as the next franchise guy and sunk assets into him. I have 0 issues with Glenn/Mougs taking this route other than being almost positive it would fail. But this option was no worse than anything else available to us as a stopgap/experiment.

I think the Fields dream has faded but they absolutely could try for a veteran QB next season instead of drafting a rookie

Kyler Murray? Mac Jones? Russell Wilson? Tua?

Who knows… all possibilities now since the cap room and flexibility to move picks or wait on a QB is there

Those names terrify me unless they are cut and we sign them for pennies on the dollar. Russell shouldn't even be in consideration.

I'm pretty concerned we're going to use some of this draft capital on a vet QB instead of drafting one and having a very cost-controlled asset for 5 years while also having tons of picks and money.

I dont love Russell Wilson at all, just throwing out names

Obviously he would be the "cut and sign them for pennies on the dollar" type. All of the guys I listed would probably be so, except for maybe Mac Jones at this point just cause hes got the Niners rolling

Mac Jones is definitely the product of Shanahan's fantastic system. I wouldn't even want to give him a shot. I also think he's earning himself a nice contract somewhere. Let another team buy that fool's gold.

Kyler Murray is my absolute nightmare. He's not good, just got replaced by Brissett and is on the books with no out til 2028. And on top of that you have to give up picks for him.

I much prefer that the FO goes into the draft with conviction and takes their QB. It's impossible to predict what's going to happen a year later. Take your guy now and build around him.

I still think Sam Howell is the best stop gap option out there. He has a year of starting experience and worked under Scott Turner who is now our passing game coordinator.

He threw a bunch of picks but he led the leagues in sacks taken to the point where the Commanders replaced 3/5ths of the offensive line, the tightend and 2/3 of the starting receivers in the next offseason.

Some smoke in the twitterverse says that the player to player trade that fell through was Quinnen to the Jags for Brian Thomas Jr.
That would fit the D to O narrative and man, that would have been cool. He would have been a great compliment to Wilson.

I'm happier with the picks honestly. Getting a 2026 two and a 2027 one (the better of two teams one at that) is kind of a crazy haul.
