I never said I would love him? I wouldnt be against it if we traded a conditional 7th round pick for him. I think it would help this team, even if its for depth purposes- Greene tends to get banged up and say he misses a game, who do we start? Powell? Obviously your a fan of Greene. Sorry its pretty obvious that Greene's best role is while sharing carries and that he's average. Nothing I can do about that.
i never said Greene is suited to be a premier back. get your shit right before you assume anything. you didnt say you loved him but when i told you what i thought of Blount while you said "we should bring him in" and then you made a snide remark that implying oh well he sounds like Greene then. so if your so on board with bringing in another "average" RB equivalent to Greene whats so good about Blount that warrants bringing him in? and you never said anything about what we should give up to bring him in. dont paint the picture that you said give up nothing for a risk worth taking. cause honestly for a 7th even id be on board and im the guy who criticized him. but you didnt make that clear previously. but i dont think hed be servicable until greene went down and yes I am a fan of Greene. hes not a premier talent but anyone whos paid attention to some of the analysis ive provided in other threads would know I think hes underrated by this msg board and nobody is pointing the finger at the interior OL and even less people recognize the difference between drive blocking and zone blocking. EDIT: yes powell should see more carries, we invested a 4th rd pick and he has the potential to be the more complete back everyone is whining for. certainly more complete than Blount.
wow... must have a bad time for my username to show up..... Good discussion though.... and good to know from a tampa fan perspective why Blount might not be the best fit. The article I posted made it seems like a good move. We will see......
The only reason I might go for this is because Green is Injury prone.....Even though he had a nice game sunday there was a point I was worried because he was slow getting up after a tough run. I have a feeling we will need two bruisers a some point this season because I'm worried Green will get banged up at some point. For depth this might make sense......
Because other NFL teams love to be a feeder system to help the Jets win the Super Bowl. It's the only downside I see to Maybin being a somewhat successful reclamation project so far. Other team's crap can become our gold. The reality is that for every Maybin, there's 100's of Gholstons...
Powell should see more carries. It seems like Greene just has absolutely no vision sometimes and watching him go down after 1st contact time and time again is pretty irritating. 90 plus yds is all well and good, but he needs like 30 carries to get it.
Alright well, your the one who started with the assuming... But lets not getting into some bullshit pissing match. As I pointed out in my first post, Blount's biggest fault has been putting the ball on the ground (essentially why the Bucs drafted Martin, also Schiano loves a workhorse back). IMO, he's got more power than Greene. Their vision is probably similar, which is below average, and obviously they can not be in on 3rd down. And sorry I didnt say specifically in my first post the I would only be for it if it ws a late rounder... Thought it was implied that we wouldnt be giving up anything more than a 6th, maaaaaaybe a 5th if you stretch it (which at that point I would be iffy about it). So Im going to infer that you believe Greene is best suited while receiving around 60% of the carries since you said you dont think he's suited for a premier back role. Nothing I have seen from Powell has shown he can handle a good amount of carries and for a late round flier, I think Blount could help this team. If at the very least he provides a Greene clone to a certain degree. It could keep Greene fresh and healthy for the duration of the season. We cut 3 of our late round picks, so at least we would know we would be getting a RB that can provide good depth and carry 20-25% of the load. As a side note- I think the OL has been mediocre in terms of run blocking, BUT, Greene has hit the wrong hole many times and just leaves a good amount of yards on the field. I dont hate Greene or even dislike him, but I think he leaves some to be desired on a ground and pound team (if we were the packers, pats, saints, ect I would be perfectly fine with him). I do like Greene when he is in a role that suits his talents and allows him to produce the most- which as it seems we agree on is when he is splitting carries to some degree. Obviously thats not his fault, but more so the front office's...
if Blount was on the Jets the same people who want to trade for him would want to trade him because an average player not on the Jets is always gold, but an average player on the Jets is garbage. let's trade for the guy that went out of a game with an injury on Sunday that his own coach said shouldn't have prevented him from playing again but decided to sit out the rest of the game. yeah, that's the player the Jets should get.
Why has he falling so far down the depth chart there? I dont know much about him other than he was the idiot that punched that kid in college, on ESPN all i can remember seeing is his highlight runs. what the story with him?
XM NFL Radio this morning was saying the coaches are down on him because he isn't putting the work in. Sounded like he basically just wants to show up and play ... which was probably fine in college but will likely get the QB murdered in the NFL.
Thanks for the awareness, clown! I will no longer be shocked when Tanny decides to sporadically trade for backs that haven't practiced a day with us. One game isn't big enough sample size. Greene will get a true test against Pittsburgh and I feel that even if he isn't great, Sanchez can make up for it. Aren't all teams strategies now pretty much, "let sanchez throw the ball, stop the run"? That's what all the analysts were saying
